If we went with our youngest plausible line up this week, just how young would they be? I can't be bothered doing averages frankly, but:

B: Brown (20) Talia (21) Otten (23)
HB: Reilly (29) Rutten (29) Jaensch (23)
C: Wright (23) Dangerfield (23) Sloane (23)
HF: Douglas (26) Walker (23) Petrenko (23)
F: Henderson (24) Jenkins (24) Lyons (20)
R: Jacobs (25) Thompson (30) Crouch (19)
Int: Laird (19) Lynch (22) Kerridge (20) Sub: Smith (21)

The bolded players, 17/22 would be 24 and younger. Its a fit Van Berlo, Porplyzia, Shaw and perhaps Vince short of a best 22, but still that's a Very Good Thing going forward.

Average age last round was 24yr 0mth as opposed to Bulldogs' 24yr 5mth

A few things to consider when thinking about team changes tgis week.

Firstly, the team which played yesterday won by around 50pts. The selectors are unlikely to make unnecessary changes to a winning team.

That probably means no Lyons. His only realistic chance was if Thompson got rubbed out by the MRP. Didn't happen, so he will probably be on the emergency list again this week. He didn't get selected last week and nothing has changed since then to justify his inclusion.

Smith is an automatic selection if fit. He is likely to be the only inclusion, assuming the selectors were happy with his SANFL game last Friday.

So, who drops out to make way for Smith? I'd love to say Jaensch on the basis that he's rubbish, or that he's been keeping Smith's seat warm. Not going to happen unfortunately. The odd man out is more likely to be Porps, due to poor form & selection as sub last week. Alternatively, it could be Laird as last man in first out. Laird would rightly feel hard done by, Porps less so. Either way, Smith must play if match fit.

As for suggestions about Riley & Martin... it's good to see some people still retaining their sense of humour after a trying start to the season.

I don't think Kerridge was so disappointing.:) But all this fapping over Laird who touched the ball a grand total of 8 times is simply laughable.

Nobody with any football sense thinks Laird would come in and dominate. What we did see was a player hungry for the contest, hard working, tackling etc. He didn't find that much of the ball and he had a few dodgy kicks but otherwise a solid start for a 19 year old.

The same people need to stop fapping over Crouch as well. He may well be a future star, but give the kid some time to develop before loading on the external pressure.

Why are us lot trying to guess the changes when the experts at The Herald Sun have us covered?

BTW Smith still apparently out for the 3-4, but Luke Thompson on the cusp...

Who the F^%*$ is Gilbert Gardener?

Good to see that Van Berlo needs to prove his fitness on the track this week? Here I was foolishly thinking he was out for a month.

Gilbert also thinks that Brodie Smith needs 3-4 SANFL games to get back up to speed.

What a muppet.

For me I think it will be -

In: Smith
Out: Porps

Sub: Mackay

Not sure how Porps will keep his place. 4 touches and no influence is not enough to earn his spot back. Vince was dropped after being the sub and getting 14 possessions in 35% of the game (even though it was probably his undisciplined brain snaps which cost him his spot).

Just watching a bit of a montage of the Eagles loss against the Blues and fallout on VFL360.

The theme is that the Weagles were too slow.

The Eagles are garbage atm. Too many injuries to key players. They've only beaten Melbourne FFS.

If we bring the same intensity this week, we should beat Carlton. That's a big if though . . .

Think Mackay as sub might be risky, would lose too much pace through the middle and as a result we would struggle to break the lines. If Mackay were to be sub, then I think porps would have to go and Martin to replace him.

This is good in theory, because Mackay is quick. But when this year has he provided run and carry through the middle of the ground and broken the lines? We are keeping him in the side because he is a prototype of the player we need.

He has been stagnant this year and is playing with little confidence. One poster commented that he was leading our club in tackles heading into week 4. This is a huge problem. He is not in the side to tackle.

Should be given the same treatment as Vince and Porps and be given the green vest.

Not sure where to put this so I'll add it here, what's the go with Dangerfield? Kicked 4 against the Dogs which was fantastic but he seemed to play the majority of the game in the forwardline/not in the midfield, so is he carrying some sort of injury? There was the rib knock concern in the pre season which I'm sure he'd have recovered from by now if it was an issue and also a knee problem I've seen floating around on here before our game. He didn't have any strapping and ran fine when he got it, but I can't help but think he isn't 100% with how little midfield time he got.

Huge issue IMO and I am surprised at the lack of discussion about this on this board. Does anyone know what is actually wrong with his knee?

Has looked a shell of the 2012 Dangerfield. The biggest sign to me was when Westhoff ran him down in the showdown.

Is obviously a class above as proven by his 4 goals last weekend, but we still lost the clearances to a pretty shoddy Bulldogs outfit. When we play Carlton / Hawthorn over the next two weeks - they will both be absolutely elated to have Danger line up in the forward 50 rather than in the centre square.

Its good in a way that we have so many young players that people want to see in the side. Problem is we just dont have enough positions. The less experience players that I rate are Laird - love his consistancy and ability to play above his weight. He could be a great small defender. Luke Brown is gonna be great as well I think. Brodie Martin could be our fast skillful outside player who cab kick goals. Just needs a crack. Reily, Lyons, Kerridge, CEY, LJ are all players I want to see have a go.

Dont forget we have only beaten Brisbane (although up there) and Bulldogs who are both struggling.
But must admit last week with Lynch up fwd and tighter defence we showed some signs starting to find some form and Walker due for big game now he knows like his mate you dont just turn up and it happens and his skills were good on Sunday.
I also would love to see Lyons in this week as deserves it but not going to happen .
Either will be no change or bring in Smith the only likely in .
Who will he replace if in . Well it won't be Mackay and doubt will be Jaensch so think between Porps and Laird .
Though be disappointed to see Laird dropped after 1 game which did not do a lot but looks to have tools to be good AFL player .

The win on Sunday was good to see but I am still not confident that we are playing at a level that will beat teams like the Tigers, Blues, North and Freo let alone the Pies, Hawks, Cats and the Swans. Given our postion at three quarter time I would have felt a lot more confident about the team if we had run over the Dogs in the last quarter but we only kicked 3.1

For me we desperately need to beat Carlton just to regain some credibility.

Its a struggle to swap our team around. There are a group of players that we know can play well but are not doing so at the moment...hence the reluctance to drop them because we live in hope that they will come good. The question is how long do we wait to make some sweeping changes. We are seeing the slow downfall of Calinan, Porps and Stiffy so who else needs to be moved on. Do we kiss Vince, McKay, Jaensch goodbye and give our younger guys a REAL chance at showing what they can do.

Can any one update how Hartigan is going in the SANFL. This guy is was said to be a ready made defender and at 22 years of age should we be looking at him for our future back line

Being reported that Betts is a chance to play on Saturday afternoon.
Waite could also return, but he'll return via the VFL.

I suspect both teams will make minimal changes, with Carlton making 1, maybe 2 changes depending if Betts is right to go.
Hoping for a cracking game at the 'G.

I'm always very reserved when it comes to recruits, and tire of the fanfare on this board when it comes to our new guys, so measure your perception of what I have to say accordingly.

Apart from NAB, I've seen Hartigan in only two SANFL games and he's been OK. He chalked up low 20s disposals on the weekend but took about 10 marks. Half of those marks were from the ball being chipped around in the back lines but he also intercepted a few. He's mobile enough, reasonably quick for a big guy, and delivers the ball well. I noticed he tired towards the end when guys like Riley and martin and Tambling for Sturt looked like they'd only just come on fresh in comparison to most of the players in both teams. Hartigan's was a serviceable game but right now he wouldn't be as good an option as L Thompson or Shaw (when fit) from my observation.

At the moment he's not shining but he's going OK. In fact, I feel his fewer touches at AFL level were more impressive than his good game with South last weekend.
