OUT = Rockliff, Walker, Gardiner
IN = Green, Taylor, Merrett

I said it last week and I still think the same - Walker should come out of the side. He is in very poor form at the moment and is a liability out there. McStay to go forward and play a chop out role in the ruck when necessary. It will be a difficult / thankless task, but it is time for McStay to toughen up - we need to put our faith in a smaller forward line based around McStay, Lester, Bewick with Taylor and Green coming in to help Keays in the tackling / harassing roles.

I don't think we can carry both Merrett and Gardiner in our team, nor can we have all of Andrews, Merrett, Paparone and Gardiner on our backline at the one time. IMO Gardiner has to come out - despite the effort he puts in, his skills, decision making and free kicks he gives away means he is not giving us a lot of upside. All of those characteristics can be applied to Merrett - however Merrett's experience and his potential for game winning defensive efforts gives him the edge.

At the moment our midfield is a huge problem - but it is also an area where we don't have much room to move given it is where all our experience is (if you drop experienced players from the youngest team in the league, then in all likelihood we will just make things worse). Having said that, at some stage Claye Beams may well have to make way for Rich or Hanley to play half back so we can bring Mathieson straight into the centre rotations.

We really need run and carry. Cutler and McGrath will become great rebounders for us but we need more skilful use of the ball off half back thats for sure!

McStay could actually be alright pinch hitting in the ruck since he has such a great vertical leap. I really want him in the team, because his foot skills and marking are above AFL standard, but what kills me is his effort.
How do you have above AFL standard? There is nothing above AFL. you can be below standard for AFL, but unless there's some super AFL that our players can be promoted to that I'm not aware of, i think the best you can do is be at AFL standard...

And I repeat:

That's reasonable.

Claiming gastro is inherently avoidable by maintaining personal hygiene, OTOH, is ridiculous as pointed out by plenty of other posters, as is claiming that having gastro is letting people down.

Out: Bacterial intestinal ailments
In: judicious and even superfluous hand washing.

Umm not sure how to word this. Players like priddis cotchin and even bernie Vince have afl standard kicks. But players like black and mitchell are well above them. So therefore above afl standard.

Average might be a better term?

Average might be a better term?

It goes in this order:

- Far below AFL standard
- Travis Cloke
- Below AFL standard
- Tyrone Vickery
- Barely AFL standard
- AFL standard (bog or garden variety standard)
- Above AFL standard
- Players like Buddy who invariably get goals they shouldn't
- Far above AFL standard
- Simon Black

Yeah bad use of wording in hindsight, I meant above what would be the AFL average. I really rate his disposal and his marking is obviously a strong point. Just have an issue with his workrate

Walker does contest well in the air.. I'll give him that. He does crash packs and gets hands to it.

But it's the times where he does have a decent run at it and looks to be in the box seat to pluck one and instead spills it that is hurting us.

Maybe they will start sticking, maybe he's been told that they don't have to stick and a contest is enough? Who knows.
He's not the only one - Stef can't consistently clunk one to ease the pressure when we go long to him either.

Merrett, Green, Taylor, Mathieson and Robertson all in the mix I'd say. Rockliff obviously injured. McStay, CBeams, Mayes all on the block. Bell and Harwood need to produce this week as do the likes of Walker, Rich and Hanley.

I'd probably go with:

In: Merrett Green Mathieson Robertson
Out: McStay Mayes Rockliff CBeams

Can't wait to get Cutler back from injury. It was a real highlight watching him develop in the seniors.

Most of the pack crashing is Walker v Schache!

Agreed. I've lost count the amount of times I've seen Walker crash packs that Schache is contesting. In the first round or two Walker gave Schache space and the past few games if anything his contesting has been to Schache's detriment.

Calls for dropping Walker are unbelievable, the bloke is busting his arse to make a contest, was there any chance we might get a front and centre off him? Walker is a workhorse, he isn't a jet but he is batting above his average as our no.1 key forward. I look forward to one day having Walker as our 2nd or 3rd tall.

IN: Green, Merrett, Paine(can we?).
Out: Rockliff, McStay, Beams.

Gardiner Merrett Andrews
Paparone Paine Bewick

Hanley Beams Rich

Bell Schache Christensen
Green Walker Lester

Foll: Martin, Zorko, Bastinac

Robinson, Keays, Harwood, Mayes.

Gardiner has been pretty good so far this year in a weak defence. I feel a couple of mature bodies are needed down back, which is why Merrett and Paine(if we can upgrade him) come into the defense to tighten it up a bit.

Hanley was terrible last week. Rich was good on the inside, but we need him to get more of it on the outside where he can utilize that left boot.

Walker needs to play closer to goal where he will grab those contested marks and slot a couple, Schache will impact more up the ground with his running capacity.

Beams and Zorko need to have strong games again. And I want to see Bastinac have a full game in the centre. He seems to be a smart, classy on baller type and deserves a crack there with Rockliff out. He was good against Port when thrown in there.

I feel Leppa needs to make smarter decisions with the midfield set up, especially with the wingman. Bastinac in not suited to a wing role, despite playing there at North in his last couple of years with them.

We give far too many frees in our defensive half that cause opposition goals.

I want to see Robinson have a bit of a breather up forward, he was spent.

I'm right there with you acuguy Although I believe he should play closer to goal where he can utilize that body and contested marking.

Traivs Cloke too high imo

Harris Andrews has a foot injury and is out this week.
It's a cruel game. 2 huge outs for us now. Merrett needs to be back for this desperately. The Pies are mad if they don't bring Clone back for this one.

Don't personally consider him a huge out. A break will probably do him the world of good. Cloke missed the VFL last week with a back injury so they might leave him out again.

Merrett and Paine in for Andrews and McStay is probably not a bad thing imo. Assuming we can upgrade Paine? Then again, If McStay can play tighter, he's probably an ideal match up for Moore athletically anyway. But I feel he has been pretty disappointing as a defender.

Andrews is a big out if Merrett can't get back. Can we elevate Paine??

Good point in regards to Cloke. I forgot that he picked up an injury. I guess we'll have to settle for Jesse White kicking a bag against us.

Hopefully Hipwood is given a go this week. He's our future CHB. No point wasting games on Paine if he is going to be delisted by the end of the year. I feel the same way about Merrett, but given his experience we have to play him, even though he has been in terrible form.
