Jack Macrae - 2020

4
turnovers in total for 2020 and one against the Saints (in comparison for 2020 Bonti has had 10, Smith 7, Dunkley 5).

Macrae is ranked 6th for disposal efficiency and 1st for midfielders.

Macrae is ranked 8th for kicking efficiency and 2nd for midfielders behind Lipinski (minimum five kicks)

Macrae is ranked 5th for handball efficiency and 2nd for midfielders behind Hunter (minimum five handballs)

He has kicked a goal while Bonti and Smith have both kicked 0 and had 0 score assists.

The problem isn't Macrae it's where he is playing. He spent 49% of the game on the wing against the Saints compared to an average of 2% in 2019.
Another masterclass coaching move by Bevo.

Dale only survives as we dont have anyone else.

What do we do when Lloyd retires?

Our forward line has seriously been neglected prior to last year.

Greene
West
Weightman
Dicko
Schache
Smith

All as good or no worse than Dale

The guy who took his role was BOG for us so it can't have been too bad.

I think the only other option would be to move Bont forward to have Macrae in the guts with Dunks and Smith. Trying Macrae on the wing was the obvious first move to make. Dunks can't play anywhere else and Smith is our best on-baller at the moment.

I mean, sure, aside from the fact that we just got thumped by St Failda.

I'm not against having Smith in the middle, but that doesn't necessarily mean Macrae has to play a different role for 98% of the game.

We're not locked in a rigid system where we have to keep playing the same 3 midfielders at every stoppage. Rotations exist. All of Bont, Macrae, Dunkley, Smith, Lipinski and others got rotated in and out of the stoppages all the time. There's no reason to have Macrae playing a permanent outside role after he's just had an AA year playing a good balance of inside and outside.

Do you want me to type slower for you?
Our ruckman - and we only have one in the team - is not physically competitive. It's highly unlikely he ever will be due to his body type; he has 4 years in the system and is still rag-dolled by the opposition.
Why is Grundy a terrible example? He's as good as any currently going around andt that just means he sets the standard that needs to achieved. Or are you saying that mediocrity is acceptable and nobody should care if it's another 62 years for a cup? Get real, this is the AFL. Piss or get off the pot.

Lol, solid melt!!

Do you have trouble reading? Re-read the first sentence of my post; the bolded part could not have been made clearer.

He is turning 23 this year, and is still getting regularly smashed in the hitouts, even by players that are younger than him. At the very least he should not be our #1 ruckman this year if we're serious about competing for flags, which we are not.

You’re still all over the shop CSharp. “If we’re serious about competing for flags, which we’re not”. Then you shouldn’t be fussed if he’s our one out ruckman?

English will come good. Writing him off at 22 years of age is foolish imo.
Feel free to do so though.

Tim will be a better ruckman at 25 than 22, and 28 than 25, but I don't know if he has the appetite for destruction necessary to be a top performer.

I’ve always been worried about English. Even before we drafted I thought he might have been another Ayce Cordy.

He’s a decent size now which Cordy couldn’t do but Tim needs to swallow some angry pills and get a bit aggressive.

He’s a bit timid and unfortunately our team is nearly all playing a bit timid right now.

Praying it changes tonight. Not expecting it to, though.

I remember Scott Wynd's first couple of years and no one thought much of him, too skinny, will be knocked around, well he won a Brownlow in 1992, 4 years after his debut and English will be a star, 2 games into the season and you diehard experts are knocking him to the shithouse, look forward to he shoves it right back at you morons starting tonight!

Wynd took over the #1 ruck role from
his third game, in round 2, 1989. He’d also played ruck in juniors, unlike English. In 1990 and 91 he was rising fast as a ruck star in his second and third full seasons. He also had the advantage of Cousins, then Charles, as backups who could kick a goal, early in his career, then Grgic and Darcy later, who also rotated between key forward and ruck. All 4 of those ‘backups’ also played as the only ruck in their own right when Wynd was unavailable.

That’s when we had coaches that believed in more than one ruckman - and it worked

"Writing him off"
Now you're putting words into my mouth. Not a very intelligent poster I can see.

Saying we're not contending for flags is just a satirical figure of speech because Beveridge continues to make bad decisions. We should be contending, and taking that into account, English shouldn't be our #1 ruckman, let alone our sole ruckman.

Showed a bit tonight Tim. In the ruck itself I didn’t think he was dominant but offered far more around the ground than Jacobs did. Kicking 2 goals instead of 2 points would have been nice though.

Give me more, Timmy!

You aren’t very Sharp are you champ. You don’t rate English, you’ve written him off at 22yrs of age. Own your foolish statements. Don’t run and hide from them.
