Only reason I see pods playing is for senior onfield leadership, don't see it being a bad move considering where things are at!

Hendo is sadly underrated to our needs , need him on the wing kicking into F50 and playing a decent outside rule , a bonus in the air on the wing as well
Agree with this. I want Hendo out of defence.

What if Shaw replaced Hendo down back as the 7th defender?

Talia v Schulz
Hartigan v Ryder
Lever v Westhoff

Shaw 7th defender…sure he's tall for a 7th defender but he can also play 'small' if required, very agile and is better than Hendo as a pure defender.

Gives us a 'spare' tall in the team without slowing us down.

Playing chess with nothing but pawns. We need to wipe the board and get some more useful pieces back.

Easier said than done. Can only use what is at your disposal, which is 45 players.
Why keep using the same pawn (MacKay, VB, Wright currently) instead of clutching at your sideboard to see if you find something different?
Not Melb style - we have enough good pieces (Jacobs, Talia, Danger etc) to build around, lets have a look.

Why keep playing chess losing with the same pawns? Change it.

I hope Shaw does play, it will be interesting to see if that wacky bone graft hammy op has helped with his kicking. He sure was a worry with ball in hand last time I saw him play.

Which was my point. I don't think we have anything in those 45 that will make a significant difference. Tangible maybe, but nothing of great import. The two year old mistake was retaining Mackay instead of letting Melbourne take him for what would have been a late first round pick, and that error isn't going to be fixed without a good two to three drafts worth of good picks.

Only because I'm a masochist, otherwise I'd have left, along with most of the other good posters.

You're not a masochist. You're just an arrogant, shitty judge of football talent. You claim that there's never anyone doing anything at SANFL level, and then Knight comes in and outperforms ALL the blokes that were supposedly keeping him out of the team and you don't even acknowledge it.

Atkins will likely do the same when given a chance. Do you seriously think VB, Mackay and Wright offer more?

Lyons has played one full game this season (playing predominantly outside the centre square), and yet he's 'blown all his chances'. What chances? He's been either in the SANFL, wearing a green vest, or being played in a foreign position. I'll admit, with his lack of pace it's extremely hard to fit him into a side that contains M Crouch and Thommo playing as full time mids, but this whole notion that he's wasted all of these so-called opportunities is pure fiction. Coming on for a 4th quarter and getting 7-10 touches isn't wasting an opportunity. It just isn't.

We get it. You don't like unknown quantities and would prefer known ones, even if they are consistently among our worst 6 players in virtually every game.

Perfectly said

You continue to swing in the murky depths and hit nothing.

I'd happily compare our records over the last few years.

But let's reflect on this specific case;

VB is woeful for most of the season.
After another particularly dismal game, Walsh says he's given the incumbents more than enough chances, and it's time to make significant changes.
VB is named on the extended bench, in the squad.
Riley Knight is told on Thursday (contradicting your claim that no one knew the make up of the team on Thursday; even though other posters have told us of changes even earlier than that) the night most teams do match committee, that he will be debuting on the weekend; proving that the team was selected and people knew who was in and out.
A poster here told us, on Thursday, that Martin, Henderson and Knight would be the 3 ins. Another poster confirms that, but adds Lever will be an in as well.
We all know what happened then, and we know it impacted our approach to the game (whether you agree it should have or not, it did).
A few days later, Tredrea, matter of factly, states that 'no many Crows supporters would realise Vb had been dropped last week.'
He plays, is subbed off, and then dropped for the next game.

You want irrefutable fact, which none of us can provide, but on the balance of probabilities, it's highly likely that he was dropped for the Geelong game.

Just admit you were wrong (and acknowledging that Knight had an excellent debut would be nice as well), instead of being stubborn to the point of stupidity.

Outside of that, he's been dropped, so all of the bullshit about him 'playing a role that you can't appreciate' is exactly that - bullshit.

Pods is only first on the interchange because the bench is listed in ascending player number order, thankfully.

Would have to think he'd be a very slim chance of playing, think we'll go conservative with Martin and Lyons in.

It's much easier to believe Tredrea lied to boost his profile, after all he has a history of lying to boost his low profile

Lyons and Atkins (or maybe martin) look like the most obvious in to me, I think pods is next to no chance of playing unless there is an injury, but shaw may play. If cheney was available I think we would play the three talls plus cheney, with shaw and lever's mobility, we could play one of them on westhoff, and the other playing shorter/loose man in defense. would also mean handerson plays further up the ground.

Watching "league teams" for the first time... David Parkin says Nathan Van Berlo is unlucky to be dropped.

Right, will remember not to bother watching that again.

No mention of Atkins' likely debut either

You can tell with comments like that, that Parkin obviously hasn't watched Adelaide play this year.
