Suban was better than Spurr.
You mean the physically imposing Christopher Keunen at 90kg and 199cm

Just my opinion, but I thought Spurr was woeful in the first half. Two or three times, he left his man to have no impact on a contest resulting in easy goals. And the two clanger turnovers that directly resulted in goals.Ya what?? No way would Suban stay in ahead of Spurr. Forgetting they played different roles on the w'end, form this year has shown that Spurr is faster, has a bigger tank and can get himself into the play way ahead of Suban when playing the HBF role. Suban I'm convinced has got better footy in him than he's showing, but right now I can't see how you wouldn't stick with Spurr ahead of Suban if they are both going to fight it out for a HBF role.

Suban was poor, Spurr was as bad as Marghetts.
when was this ?? I didnt notice him limping at all,if there was any chance of him re injuring the same foot I dont think he would continue to train ,surely ?
the oval looked pretty soft underfoot, probably not ideal conditions for someone suffering the effects of turf toe
You mean the 29yo young fella?

Whilst I agree, Spurr was directly responsible for 3-4 goals, both from clangers and not effecting the contest. Duffield and himself both stood there and looked at each other whilst Taylor took a mark in the goal square. That would as he mentioned perturb Lyon to no end.Disagree on Spurr, he made a few bad clangers at the start but dramatically improved as the game went on and was involved in numerous important 1 on 1 contests whereas Suban again just had zero impact.
Spurr is also very competent in the air and had a few nice contested marks, another area that Suban is quite poor in.

to be fair I think Zac could take some of the blame for this one it was his direct opponent and he showed a real lack of urgency, yes the others could have helped out but a lack of talk/ communication caused thisWhilst I agree, Spurr was directly responsible for 3-4 goals, both from clangers and not effecting the contest. That's a very good point, I was wondering what Suban was doing down there.Suban kept Reilly to his lowest disposal count of the year. His defensive game was good. He was poor in attack. In my opinion, Spurr was terrible in both directions.
One of the reasons Freo Oval is holding back the footy club. IT is such an average ground to train on and have been said by Belly (I think..) that it needs changing.
I'm a little nervous On Fyfe like E but while their midfield is one of the better in the league and will get better, besides the big Tasmanian which Luke Mac can cover. their forwards Nahas, King can be covered and their back line can't cover Pav, the tigers game was the one that restarted the Pav at FF, and there is no one I can think of that can cover him.
While Fyfe might be out he hasn't been there all year, Foley is still a big hole for them (didn't play last time), Lower in good wafl form with the contested possessions, Sandi imminent. I am feeling better than this time last year.
I expect DeBoer to go to Newman, who plays that exact QB style role you're talking about.De Boer was our first choice tagger last year, but with Crowley dropping the weight and getting his fitness up Crowley has gone back to being the first choice tagger. So I'd expect Crowley to tag your most damaging mid... most likely Cotchin.
De Boer is generally very disciplined and is able to tag. But I wouldn't see Ross employing two taggers in the midfield. If you have a quarterback type in your backline that really dominates the play (e.g. a Hodge, Deledio in prior seasons, Hurn) then De Boer may be given a tagging job on them. If he is matched up against someone in midfield it'll be more of a run-with role, rather than negation.
Won't be a fun day for the fella he's matched up against, even if it is run-with... he's usually pretty accountable for the guy he's matched up on even if it is just a run with.
I'd heard that Deledio was playing more midfield/onball this year. Is that true?

Yes, Deledio plays midfield.
But if Mayne's OK, (and if Newman isn't a lynchpin playmaker) then we may see De Boer matched up against Martin as as more accountable head-to-head (or a looser run-with).
Would love to see Martin try the "don't argue" against DeBoer.
