Preview Changes v Saints

As soon as the line about training form came out, I knew it was going to be bad.

We're clearly not serious anymore

Perhaps you have been listening to the rhetoric too long. A little like Stockholm Syndrome.
Resist MD, resist!!

I'm certainly not happy!
Gardner selected over Cordy is a disgrace. If Cordy is injured, then say so, if not he should have more than enough credits in the bank to be selected above someone who should have a large negative sign in front of his credit balance. In fact Gardner's selection is just inexplicable, and highlights our main problem;
"Match performances do not equate with selection decisions."

The continued exclusion of proven performers like McLean and Dickson is also a problem, particularly in a side that is sadly lacking in settled seasoned performers.
I still hold out some hope for a win (not sure why) but this is a long way from the best side we should be able to field, and if we lose it will be another tough pill to swallow.
Don't understand the Gardiner decision either. Hope I'm proven wrong but he looks so far off AFL the selection genuinely makes me question what Beveridge is thinking.

Young finished last year off well. This season is already a non event, imo, so get games into him.

This year may be very compromised considering some clubs will have the benefit of fans & others won’t, some teams will likely get a large run of home games in a row etc etc

but if lose this weekend & we are 0-2, with the team we are putting out and the talent on the bench we aren’t playing, all signs are heading for a very disappointing year.

Pissed off Cavarra got dropped when our midfield was ****ing pathetic in round 1. Only his training form not being up to scratch has to be the reason, surely. Would have dropped Dale before him as he had even less of an impaGardner has shown nothing apart from a promising first half when he was full of energy against West Coast on debut & keeps his place ahead of the likes of Cordy & a proven Trengove. At least Trengove can be physical if the opposition forwards start using their strength against us!

Prove me wrong on Sunday night, please!!

To end on a positive, looking forward to seeing what Vandermeer could bring & I hope Jong has a decent game and gets through unscathed

Well we should have the run to go with them over the course of the game. Question is the defence a bit light on? We had better get on top in the middle or it could be a long night

Usually we go one one with the saints
The question is which game are we going to get

This is one of those games where there seems to be a disconnect between what we think the team selections should be and what the match committee think. There have been a lot of these in recent times and the balance of which side is more correct is unclear and it shouldn't be. The match committee should always be more correct than we armchair selectors. I often think that there is an element of experimentation in some selections and this I find is confounding.

Not that I'd do it but if they aren't serious about this year why shouldn't we ask for that partial membership refund.

These selections are very frustrating

St. Kilda will come out and try to be physical with us. Ratten uses snake tactics.

Will we stand up?

Like us they have no one that has real mongrel I can think of?

When Norf lifted the intensity and physical side on round one the saints fell apart

This is such a re-structured backline, just not sure how they'll go in understanding our systems and connections, especially as they haven't had a lot of time to work on them.

And North were 3 men down just minutes into the 2nd half.

It’s concerning that for the third season in a row we’ve clearly started the season with no idea what our best team or best structure is.

An in list of Richards, Jong, Vandermeer, Lipinski, and Gowers works for me. They all have pace, grunt, or both.
I have not been impressed by Gowers since his first season. Then he beGAN to drink his own bathwater. If he plays the way he played in his debut season, then he will be good for us. If he starts playing tough and following his role, he is going to be valuable. I am happy with Jong in the side. what's up with Libba? still injured?

MD is having you on. He is being totally sarcastic. Particularly because he has said nothing about Jonge... I hope Van der Meer has a good game.

You can think what you want but I’m being totally serious

After the round 1 effort I’m not bothered by this selection in anyway and as I said think it will end with Avery positive outcome at years end.

I haven’t mentioned Jong for months but if he is the best available then nothing I can say I haven’t already is necessary. Let’s hope he makes it through a full game uninjured.

After round 1 I'd say we are the most mentally fragile team in the league.

That loss was a throwback to the Rhode era

Hi all- new on here. Pumped to have footy back. Bemused by the changes but nonetheless I am pumped to see Jong back in as well as Gowers and Richards. We should smash their midfield and I am sure we’ve learnt plenty from the debacle last time against the saints.

Good to see a new face. Yeah I'm keen for this midfield. English, Bont, Dunks, Macrae, Smith, and Lipinski is just a great lineup, even not including Richards, Jong, and Vandermeer.

We win it in the middle we win the game. I’m not concerned about the lack of height. Gardner to King, Keath to Ryder and Williams/Crozier to Membrey. If anything it’ll help our run.

It’s actually crazy some of the names we are leaving out. Libba, McLean, Cordy, Dickson. All are premiership players. I mean, there’s some individual reasons for each but for a young inexperienced side, it just seems odd.
