It’s actually crazy some of the names we are leaving out. Libba, McLean, Cordy, Dickson. All are premiership players. I mean, there’s some individual reasons for each but for a young inexperienced side, it just seems odd.

The remaining 17 games don't count for anything, they are just a glorified pre season/AFLX comp to allow the TV networks to make money on advertising and the AFL to try stupid rule changes so we might as well try out all players on the list to see who will be around next season.

My interest in this game has dwindled, without those guys

Libba I can understand why. Probably needs more time. Dickson is maybe underdone? McLean is baffling but there’s just no midfield spot for him. But then the flip side to that is- well there’s room for Jong then?

Some observations from the 2 games this round.

Except for the ruckman, dominant smalls and on ballers are much more important than ever.
It is clear than some teams are a lot fitter than others teams. I think the tigers looked fitter than the pies and the cats were clearly a lot fitter than the hawks. The hawks looked like they could not raise gallop after half time.

Hopefully Tim stands up tomorrow and after our game 1 disaster the players had a burning desire to work hard.

Dickson looked over the hill last year
Libba is a good friend of Biggsy and who knows where his head is at
McLean has steadily got worse since 2016, he has little impact on games
I like Cordy but his lack of spatial awareness and speed of thought in a zonal defending system has me pulling my hair out. Though Gardener looks like a bloke from Deer Park who wandered into a big league game and can’t work out how he got there.

Not being rude but you do realise the saints have been rubbish for years and don’t have the edge anywhere against nearly any team right?

That being said we alway struggle against you so I’m expecting the same but even with a team far from our best, while you will have yours I expect a close result.

Which is disappointing because many experts tipped us to go very well this year so we should be able to beat a bottom 8 team quite easily.

Great to have something to read again.
Think the home gym factor will have a big factor this year..Think all teams are having selection issues related to this.Be hard to motivate yourself in isolation.

Round 3 and maybe Round 4 are also going to be interesting, to see how well these unhardened players across the AFL back up after a 5-7 day break.

McLean had a better year in 17 and then was outstanding in 18. Last year was the only poor season since since 16. But even then, statistically both seasons were almost identical.

Not to be rude, but if we dont have any edge against any team and we still manage to win games. How do the saints win games? LOL

Dale will kick some goals and we should be well motivated to win comfortably. Team selection clearly based on how the players are training as well as match ups and not as much importance on round 1 form. And that is fair to give players a chance to make amends after 1 poor game

Not sure why anyone is baffled by the players that are out. None of those players are in the same sort of form as 2016.

I’ll admit none of us have seen them play for a while, but McLean was awful in the preseason, Dicko we all know is on his last legs, Libba is on the way back from long term knee injuries and Cordy has had people calling for his head here for a year or more.

Have a soft spot for all of them for obvious reasons but if they aren’t screaming for inclusion (or didn‘t return in peak condition) they won’t be selected. Only a fully fit Libba is an automatic selection of that group.

Happy to give the other guys a go. We appear to have prioritised pace so let’s see how we go.
