Your answer is Seedsman. My answer is another would be rested until they're comfirtable making the call. And if that's not the case, then I'd not make a call with any confidence. Seed for the future, Mackay due to the past. Having said that, your view that travelling emergency is meaningful was scuppered this week with Wigg missing out despite the perfect opportunity presenting itself.
Not scuppered at all. CEY just played a blinder and gave the selectors no alternative but to pick him.

Seedsman might have done the same to Mackay. He had the opportunity. He didn't take it. He's still behind Mackay now, as a result.

Seedsman will be playing finals, that I have no doubt. Just like the commentators said after he nailed his goals, he's got a serious weapon, there aren't many players on our list let alone the entire league who can regularly hit goals from 60m from one or two steps, it's a weapon along with Smith.
I wish Smith had that weapon. Seedsman kicks goals from that range. Smith bombs away, makes the distance, but struggles to kick it between the big sticks.

Mate you knowledge of footy is laughable. Your making a fool of yourself.

It's amazing what a bog average footballer like Mackay can do to people who are probably not ordinarily all that stupid. Wayne's melt on Sunday was delicious, I think it had 3 cheeses.

Wigg was already ahead of CEY.. then CEY played a blinder, while Wigg was watching from the sidelines (due to being the emergency for the AFL game).

It's just bad luck for Wigg that CEY chose that week to play the best game of his career. CEY will probably never play that well again in his entire life, but he timed it just right (given the need to rest Thompson).
I agree that's the rationale behind it, but it's poor thinking.

1. 1 swallow doesn't make a summer. Its one game. On the weight of games before that, Wigg was ahead. He stays ahead because his form is still good.

2. CEY is a more logical replacement for Thommo. We should have planned Thommo's resting. We therefore should have projected CEY coming in and had him miss a game last week. Instead we have a development player miss 2 weeks in a row. To me, that's unforgivable. Happened with Brouch earlier in the year. I'd like to think our selection committee is a little smarter than that and actually thinks ahead. We should already know what changes we are likely to make next week, injuries permitting, and our selections this week should have one eye on that plan.

Your obsession on maintaining a definitive order with no real evidence is bordering on obsessive compulsive. Are you now rating SANFL form by the way? To such an extent that CEY can go past Wigg while Wigg didn't even get a chance to compete on the same day. More likely you were correct with your original belief and what's happened is that CEY has had a cracking week on the track and poor old Wiggy could barely get out of 2nd gear or hit a target. That's where your famed and flawless ordering system went bad.

He has.. I just didn't want to bother with all of the logic, as it would bore most people (and go completely over your head).

Going back 2 weeks, Henderson was in the team, with Mackay the traveling emergency and Seedsman playing in the SANFL. That's the baseline I'm using. The only reason Henderson is currently out of the team is because he's injured. That's why I think he's currently the highest ranked of those three players. I have no idea what effect his latest injury will have on his standing.

That leaves us with Mackay & Seedsman. Their selections over the last month have been as follows:
R17 - Mackay named on the ground, Seedsman a late inclusion off the emergency list
R18 - Mackay traveling emergency, Seedsman SANFL
R19 - Mackay & Seedsman both named on the ground
R20 - Mackay named on the ground, Seedsman on the bench

Looking at those team selections, it is clear that the selectors rate Mackay ahead of Seedsman.

Thus, the order is:
1. Henderson (subject to return from injury)
2. Mackay
3. Seedsman

The only reason why Seedsman actually left the seniors is because he pulled his hamstring. He didn't come straight back in due to the length of time he was out and form of the player who replaced him (Crouch). Hendo came in for Brown when he was injured, and Brown was in great form. Seed came back in when Laird got injured. Both Mckay/Seed got dropped for the Geelong game for the incumbents coming back from injury (Brown/Laid). Mckay with a whopping 0 tackles against the Pies.

So you're making quite a leap thinking hendo will slot straight back in regardless of the performance of Mackay/Seedsman. He'll play SANFL unless someone gets injured or plays poorly against the Lions. He most certainly isn't no. 1 in that pecking order.

Nice to see Pykey and the Selectors catch up with the BF mob who were crying our for ROB and CEY last week.

Hope they both tear it up especially CEY to show them how poor selection has been this season ala Lyons.

I've got a feeling the Sauce -> ROB transition will be seem less.

I've been a massive critic of Sauce this year. Think ROB might actually provide some improvement to our around the ground play.
I've only seen a handful of SANFL games when they're played on Ch 7 but get the impression that ROB is a cross between Mumford and Jacobs as far as play styles go.

Stef Martin isn't back in, that certainly makes it easier although Archie Smith jumped all over Trengrove before he ran outta gas.

He will probably provide better 2nd efforts than Sauce though

Jeez Grigg doesn't even make emergency after having a huge game.

Grigg is first delisted, so it's expected that he doesn't.

Good to see you're posting your usual anti-AFC trolling, overly-simplistic (and therefore completely pointless) analysis.

Kind of helps that we're actually in a position to rest players though - playing extremely weak teams at this time of the year, with a finals position already sewn up. When was the last time that happened, if ever?

Suspect we would have seen a lot more of it in the past, if we'd ever been in circumstances like this before. Most of the time we've either had a tough run home, a moderately long injury list, or been fighting just to make the finals in the first place. None of those circumstances are conducive to "resting" players.

"You try telling Thommo he isn't playing"

Brenton Sanderson - 2014.

And with that, i disagree with your point. We were shit scared to rest players.

Feel for Wigg here. He misses last week's SANFL game as our emergency, Curley dominates and leap frogs him as a result.

Now Wigg has a bye.

Misses 2 games in a row.

Poor strategy from our team selections again.

He really needs to be in for Douglas or Mackay.

Happy for CEY though. He's deserved another crack. What do we do if he gets 40 possessions?

CEY probably stays in then.

That said, feel for Wigg as he had done enough to debut, but i think it's more to do with going like for like with replacing Thommo.

Hopefully he does debut though this season

It's close... but all signs indicate that it's Mackay who is ahead.

Put it this way.. If they didn't rest McGovern this week, who do you think would have been omitted? Seedsman, or Mackay. The answer is Seedsman.

Didn't Mackay get dropped two weeks ago?

And this is the frustrating thing. They should have known they were resting Thommo. They should have known 6 weeks out.

They should have known last week that they'd want CEY to come in. They should have had CEY the emergency last week. Just dumb.

And that'd change what exactly?

CEY knows where he stands. Wigg knows where he stands etc. An emergency listing isn't changing anything to either of them, just some supporters opinion of the depth chart.

Seedsman will be playing finals, that I have no doubt. Just like the commentators said after he nailed his goals, he's got a serious weapon, there aren't many players on our list let alone the entire league who can regularly hit goals from 60m from one or two steps, it's a weapon along with Smith.

But Mackay offers some serious non-statistical value... or has a serious weapon in the form of some incriminating pictures of Noble and a goat or something.

I wish Smith had that weapon. Seedsman kicks goals from that range. Smith bombs away, makes the distance, but struggles to kick it between the big sticks.

He used to be ultra-consistent at that range, no idea why he lost it all of a sudden.

Bolded bit is the just plain wrong. This time last week it was Wigg they planned on using to replace Thompson. Then CEY put in a blinder against Port-lite and forced his way ahead of Wigg.

How the **** do you know that?

Wigg has not played as an inside midfielder at all this year?

Stupid comment.

Actually was the direction i wanted them to go, as i feel we are a bit too inside midfielder heavy right now.

Would of been a bit of restructuring though.

CEY for Thommo is like for like.

I actually think Harrison might struggle to win his own ball in the AFL right now. He still has quite a number of areas to work on. He will have to wait until next year to get a go.

Oh christ, the SANFL team has another bye?!!!

What a joke of a comp.

Goes to one of the issues with Menzel, due to concussion - which is a pretty sucky injury, that has nothing to do with conditioning or anything the most he has played is 3 weeks in a row (via Inside Football)

Anyway, good to give CEY another go, and smart to give Gov a rest

Think McGovern was always getting a rest at some stage. Would have been last week except for Tex's injury.

If Walker doesn't come up this week, McGovern stays and perhaps misses the next one.

I'm loving our approach. No longer best 22, one week at a time. Now actually managing our squad with some brain power and keeping half an eye on September. Certainly beats the moronic full bore one dimensional approach we've always favoured.

If it wasn't for the D-Mac blindspot and VB's cameos, selection would be an A+ this year.
Pods was asked about resting more players next week and he said there wouldn't be more resting as no one else needed it.

Also said they've been trying to time the McGovern rest for the last month. In a way it was good timing that Tex copped the ankle, otherwise Gov would have been gone after Geelong and after that performance it would have been seen as being dropped.

It also allowed Pyke to show faith in him and allowed Gov to respond which he did. Now he gets a rest and will be back against Freo, there is no chance we won't play him in his home state. Craig would have but not Don.

Lately yes, but in the past and especially earlier in the year he was quite good at it.

Seed was actually paying him out after Smith missed the goal on the siren last week.
