Joe Daniher was outstanding last week and almost got the bombers up. His marking is scary good and I too am nervous for this one. Would not underestimate this team one bit. we need to be at our best regardless of injuries and get back on track with our attack to finals.

Hawthorn have had plenty of injuries this year as well, and last year they only had 3 players that played every game.
I was thinking of Hawthorn too ... and they are prepared to make ballsy decisions to bring in new untried talent to fill the gaps ... in their case these new blokes have stood up admirably in the absence of the injured guns ... Time for our selectors to make a ballsy call against the Bombers ... Mitchell & SGray HAVE to go IMO

Also very few here have mentioned Cassisi! ... I will put my left one on the line, and state that he will DEFINITELY be back in playing this weekend!!

Didnt fair (sic) too badly in Sydney.

I think if you reflect back you will see we've been doing that too. Sam Gray, Ben Newton, Tom Clurey.

That doesn't make it a league-wide way of doing things. When we've been a top 4 team for about 8 years our Reserves may consist solely of players who are 1st 22 in other AFL teams (suck it North, Sturt supporters!). But for now we've probably played every Reserves player who could handle it. Mason Shaw may eventually get a go this year, surprisingly even Ah Chee if he keeps working. Hitchcock an outside chance.

Ben Newton hasn't really had a go yet and has performed well enough for a rookie in both games. He had 15 disposals in 80% game time against GWS and 12 in 24% game time against St Kilda. He may just be unfortunate again in that with the defensive outs and the requirement for size there are 3, maybe 4 players ahead of him in the line(out of Clurey, Young, O'Shea, Cassisi ). Although if Ken wants to go with replacing like for like he could come in for Sam Gray or Mitchell.

Feeling anxious about Sat night.

As it turns out I have a mate's birthday at the local (amateurs) footy that day so any nerves will be washed away by numerous Pale Ale's.

Shaw in would make me that much more excited for Saturday night. The excitement of seeing a young, promising key forward on a Saturday night at AO in a big game would be worth the price of admission alone.

I would like to see Ken&Co back themselves with some new blood coming into the side, if not some of the more recent young pick. I would hate to see Ken&Co become negative with their selections they have done a good job of getting players to believe in themselves against the odds and it would not be good to see them drop this approach!

will be a tough week for the coaches coming up with the team to face the Bombers. Obviously Trengove and Carlile are definite outs and i think Cassisi will come back in. After that it is really hard to predict what they will do. I reckon there will be a competition between Gray, Mitchell, Newton, Young, Logan, Neade, Clurey, Oshea, Butcher and Shaw for 3 spots. My guess is Young, Clurey & Oshea.

Yeah ... fair enough, but I dont really call those "ballsy" decisions. Bringing in Shaw to alter the structure would be! Also None of those player have really burned up the turf. They have all had their moments ... but we need them to take the opportunity & run with it! I would like to see Young get more full AFL games, and I do think that we need another forward to release the Hoff ... we look our most potent when he is free to play the swing role.

Very nervous about this game now. I've got no doubt they'll bring Bellchambers back in for his yearly best game of the season against us.

That means we'll be facing 198cm Carlisle, 201cm Daniher & 202cm Bellchambers with 193cm Hombsch, 193cm Clurey & 188cm Jonas. Pittard, Broady & (you'd assume) O'Shea will have to be at their chopping off best on Saturday.
I doubt Bellchambers will come back, and I'm Tommy's biggest advocate. Also Carlisle is 200cm. If they can lead properly and to dangerous spots we may be a chance, but that's unlikely. FWIW we'll probably go:

In: Winderlich, Baguley
Out: Melksham/J Merrett (the other sub), Hardingham

Using our normal midfield rotation instead of having Hardingham forward, Chapman midfield and Melksham in defence.

Currently we have 4 players who have debuted this year. Impey, Clurey, S.Gray and Newton. We have 4 who debuted last year in Wines, Hombsch, Neade and Mitchell. Hawthorn have debuted 7 this year and 3 last year. Although with the losses of Brian Lake and Josh Gibson this year they have not debuted a tall defender.

The point is, Hawthorn have made it through the year with their tallest defender only being 195cm and available for 4 games only so why can't we. They also beat Essendon, it was only by 4 points but Essendon had Jobe Watson at the time.

Ahhhhh. Why did you have to say that.
Its not the super talls we have to worry about, Chapman is back.

INS: Butcher/Shaw, Clurey, Newton, Cassisi
OUT: Trengove, Carlile, S.Gray, Mitchell
Young would be close to an in but we must reward Newton over Young with a full AFL game since he has been consistently good throughout the year. Otherwise he will be looking for opportunities elsewhere which will be bad for us.

How many weeks now have people been outing Mitchell?

I've been on his side over the last few weeks, but this week, I'd drop him, even though he did more in one quarter than a handful of other players did for an entire game.

I'd bring in Young for him, as I'd prefer Young's hardness at the ball and player, along with his ball movement.

Im happy that Clurey will come in , I think he will move to Hombschs normal role and Hombsch will play full back with Jonas playing centre half back . I think Cassisi will take Jonas's spot on the flank .
I think then we need another tall forward to allow Westhoff to pinch hit ruck and drop back into defence if one of their talks gets confident . Butcher or Shaw for me there .
I'd swap Sam Gray for Aaron Young and Mitchell for Newton , but that's just me I guess

One positive change will be that, with our home crowd putting the wind up the umpires, there won't be a 7-20 free kick deficit at halftime.

Er... change 'won't be' to 'shouldn't be.'

Ok so the definite outs are trengove and carlile. So it's pretty much a lock that clurey and o'shea come in for them. Sam Gray played poorly and his spot would be taken by young or cassisi. Walsh hinted that shaw is still too young to debut but with butcher in ok form one of them should come in due to westhoff playing more in the ruck this is where it gets a bit difficult ken should drop Mitchell for one of these 2 players however I don't really see it happening. Ken might also want both young and cassisi in

IN: O'Shea, Clurey, Young/Cassisi, Butcher?
Out: Trengove, Carlile, Gray, Mitchell?

Looks like Butcher has a fair chance of being selected. If he comes in, it would be a lucky break because he hasn't been setting the world on fire in the sanfl.

But if selected I hope he grabs the chance with both hands and puts on a good show against the Bombers.

Won't. You are playing Essendon ;)

Don't forget the challenge we had against the bulldogs. THE UMPIRES over compensated for home crowd bias that game
