They say the best coaches are half back flankers, think Sheedy, Clarkson and Malthouse, because they're overly not blessed with talent so have to think about their game, can see the play unfolding from a good vantage point, and have defensive mind sets. Hart may be the exception.
Not so much the position but the need to work hard to succeed. It frustrated me seeing talented players rock up to training and do the minimal while those not blessed with talent busted their arses on the track. Dropping those talented players certainly helped me feel better and those less talented appreciate that their hard work got noticed

"a poorly planned pre-season" - Roo said nothing about the (entire)pre-season being poorly planned. He mentioned one/couple aspect/s where they got it wrong. You could loosely say it was 'a poorly planned pre-season' and get all the clicks it was designed to amass, but it had nothing to do with what it implied.
At first glance it sounds like the crows went into the season with a poor planning process, when in actual fact it had nothing at all to do with how they planned.
The content of the planning is the talking point, and by the catastrophic results it's clear that the wrong plan was indeed very thoroughly planned, not poorly planned by any stretch of the imagination.
Contrary to the claim Roo admitted to the pre-season being poorly planned, Roo admitted nothing of the sort.
