Does anyone else feel kind of ripped off that Hawks have started their rebuild the same time as us after winning 3 flags in a row and will probably already easily have us covered here?
They still have some way to fall when they lose Hodge and Burgoyne but its going to be pretty galling to once again watch them ping it around cleanly while we bunch up and get picked apart by superior kicking.
They traded like 94628 first round picks last year on ready made players. It's not a fair comparison.

The Clarkson factor also helps them look a bit better than they are.

Collins would have probably trained against some of the younger Hawthorn talls at Box Hill. Could be a chance to come in.

Yes he did what he does at AFL level. Got 2 goals from a massive 6 disposals.

You'd have to reward 6 disposals every day of the week. Thats Kersten. Goes missing for 90% of the game, gets a goal at the end and everyone goes crazy. You need to look beyond that. Kersten just isn't AFL quality for all of Lyon's bullshit.
Kersten being average doesn't make Taberner any better, it just means he's they're both bog average.

we can all agree Tabs generally gets beaten when he has a noteably good defender on him at AFL level. does this happen to him in the WAFL as well? Are all his good performances against spudy defenders at that level as well?

The stats say other wise. Tabs has consistently better stats than either Kersten or McCarthy and he should be getting selected on merit.

Doesn't mean he'll ever be a Pavlich or Reiwoldt but he's clearly better than what we are currently selecting

I didn't watch the Peel game, but saw highlights (available on Facebook) and at least 2 of his goals came from turnovers at HF and him streaming back to goal. Literally any player can do that. One was from a contested mark in the goal square though.

Video here. 2 goals from contested marks. Another contested mark just outside 50 and then a pass to another Peel player for a shot on goal. (33s, 43s, 54s if you want to skip the boring bits)

The usual suspects who "watch" every Peel game are still trying to tell people that he got his goals from "easy uncontested marks" despite this video being about. Tells you everything about how valuable the insight of those guys who report from watching Peel live is.

Tabs plays a different role than Kerstin and McCarthy so you're comparing apples to oranges.

I did think Tabs would come in to replace Cox though who is playing the same role. He may come in late but clearly the MC were less than impressed with Tab's effort to own the role earlier this year when it was all his to own. Ross wouldn't have wanted to have had to turn to an 18yo to fill the role and would've been disappointed that Tabs couldn't lift to the level. And so even though Cox has seemingly handed the position back to Tabs, he'll have to earn since he's had so many chances in the past.

These are always my favourite posts in the Melt thread.

I've seen you melt plenty of times wayToGo_ don't go all holier than thou, it's unbecoming.
Nah, I don't think I've melted since round 2 :) Well not without a smile/wink on my face whilst doing it.

Yes Taberner could have been selected after his last two WAFL performances but as a myriad of posters have said it took a rocket at half time by Roger to get him motivated on the weekend. I truly hope he plays this weekend at Peel (not held over as the emergency) and smashes four quarters and makes the team the following week.

But people seem obsessed with plucking out a couple of stats as if he is some godly forward. The one stat that has been conveniently left out of the conversation is clangers. Taberner has the highest average clangers of all players on our list this season (at 4.8 per game). That's a **** load of turnovers by a key forward who isn't touching the ball that often  If people are going to whinge about our defenders (who are under a lot of pressure) turning the ball over then they also need to be critical of any forward who turns the ball over that often. All that hard work getting the ball forward wasted because a forward stuffs it. That's why Tabs needs to work extra hard to earn his selection. And perhaps why McCarthy and Kersten are easier to select - that both have less than half that number per game.

which is kind of what pisses me off. That this game will likely be a replay of ever game we've played against them in the last 4 years. Our lot will get sucked into contests, the Hawks will flick it around on the outside and make us look slow and silly.
It doesn't matter much the personal. Clarkson has Lyon covered.

Clangers are not just turnovers though. I think you'll find the majority of his clangers are giving away free kicks in ruck contests.

Thats actually one of my points. Kersten and McCarthy are very similar players and the opposition only has to put one defensive process in place to negate both players. Having a larger, taller forward adds additional complications for the defenders and from that point of view it should be a combination of Tabs and either one of the other two.

The other point I've been making is that Tabs is being held to a standard that neither Kersten or McCarthy have yet to meet.

Tabs has additional options in that he can act as a backup ruck.

We went in too short against the eagles and I said that before the game. McGovern and Kennedy did what they did in the first derby and we let them do it again. That was poor coaching, pure and simple.

I am of the view I want to win every game. Going in short again, with a poor forward structure isnt giving us the best chance to win. If I was tanking, this is how I would go about it and frankly, not what I want.

Tab non selection this week could be weather related. 95% chance on sat, so must prefer the more mobile forwards in McCarthy & Kersten. Tabs has been so useless in AFL (not WAFL against average defense) games in his career. If it's dry, he could find himself in

Maybe and extra year of high picks is what we're going for in order to have more of a tilt the next few?

So who the **** is going to support Darcy in ruck this week ?
Yeh let's throw Jhonno the walking ****ing invalid in there.
Genius Ross, just genius

Maybe but I'm of the view that instilling a win at all times attitude is worth more than a couple of draft positions. Melbourne went the path of improving draft positions and in the end, it got them nothing. The draft is a lottery anyway but attitude can pull wins out of hopeless positions.

Thats my view.
