Hey EC .....what happened to your boy Lyons ......didn't you say one of our highest possession winners an playing well

Didn't i say "pre-game" he would be subbed for Grigg ......and that he was running around unaccountable

Lyons has a LONG WAY to go .......think he can still be a good player ......but he aint the golden child portrayed on this board ;)

Yeah and funnily enough L Johnston isn't as rubbish as you made him out to be.

Care to keep gloating on that one;)

Paying members of most clubs and associations have a say in the running of it.

And (hard to believe) in some of them they even vote in the president and the board. Fancy that!

They're lucky the most accountability they've suffered so far is a few disgruntled members posting on a forum.

Without members, there is no club. So pipe down.

All I was getting at is try and be positive some of the time instead of being so negative and abusive to everyone (generalisation, not anyone in particular).

Huh? ......on the back of 2 qtrs of footy
You don't think Grigg will ever have bad games or be out of form? ......BIG BIG STATEMENT

Yeah probably a bit big:p, but went back and watched his work again when he came on. Showed more composure and smarts than a large number of players who have played for longer and have much more experience. The kicks that spotted up Dougy and Hendo were all class and the one that found Thommo in the middle in the 3rd was also right up there. Maybe changed to should not be sub again this season. Would like to see what he can do with a couple of full games under his belt.

Would still like four on the bench plus a sub, especially if they cap the rotations next season, but that is one that I can't see happening.

The only guy I could see Porps replacing is McKernan, so we don't really lose anything there anyway. Don't think it'll happen though. Hendo, Wright and Sloaney are guarantees, so it's one of Shaw, Jaensch, McKernan or Porps to drop out.

Yeah Porps to replace McKernan and ruck for the first time in his career...great thinkingo_O

absolutely ......has now two games to get a real feel .....had to have a full game ....but everyone have reasonable expectations of a 2 game player

Maybe a separate discussion, but I cannot understand why we have such low expectations and standards for young players - in my opinion, it's symptomatic of the issues with the club as the whole.

Without members, there is no club. Soon, a lot of paid up members won't care enough to write on a forum, and ergo won't care enough to put their hard earned into the club.

Then the club has REAL problems.
Rubbish post .....so supporters should run the club ......god help us with our supporter base

You're not using the ol cliche ......"without us there's no club" bullshit
Supporters are always listened to at well run clubs ......and poorly run clubs (RICHMOND, St Kilda, Bulldogs ..) they've listened to supporters WAY TOO MUCH!! ......to the severe detriment of their club cultures & on-field results

Pretty straight forward selections. After a game like the showdown where all played well its hard to just ommitt guys who didn't do anything wrong.

In a way its good to see Sando looking to keep trying to win. I could have realistically seen him dropping a few experienced players this week and go all out with young guys but it really wont make a difference come draft so might as well keep trying to win.

Because they didn't drop Thommo I can only assume his injury wont get any worse and will be fit come first week of November.

You didn't watch the game did you?

Otten, Lynch, Douglas and Laird had shockers, while Thompson was shambolic.

Do you think he did enough against Geelong to play against Freo?

Yep thought he was unlucky, but a first year young player getting dropped is not worth getting so upset for. Especially when they were going all out for a win on the back of the Geelong game for a finals spot. Didn't work, Grigg came back in for Port game all perfectly reasonable decisions.

What happens to clubs with no members?

Bullshit.
didn't expect anything less .....well formed counter argument there SP

structured ....thought provoking .... and intellectually stimulating argument

And at the worst run clubs they aren't listened to at all.

Also the "without us there's no club" bullshit is 100% true. Without supporters there is no club and no AFL.

:thumbsu:

Playing an average game shouldn't secure your place in the side.

It's not about deserving to be dropped, it's about whether there are better options outside of the team.

If you play an 8/10 game, but the guy in the SANFL who plays the same role is playing 10/10 games, then you don't deserve to be dropped, but you should be.

Well said.

Some of you too often have a massive go at the coach, the club and other supporters as soon as something doesn't go our way. Some of you even have massive cracks when players get selected and the clubs abused for not selecting them earlier. Not to mention the massive amount of all young players are treated poorly comments.

Some of you also seem to shoot supporters who can see the positives of the list or the positives out of experimenting with selections and positioning. The hatred of some players is beyond a joke as well Otten has been one of the best players in the side over the past few weeks yet some of you want him axed.

You claim its discussion but its not. not when you don't accept that others have views that disagree with yours in a civil manner.

Sometimes I even have to ask why some of you even go for the club when you clearly hate half the players, the selection staff and the way the club is run.

Kudos Wayne for having the guts to say something.
This post is full of hypocrisy light on accuracy.

We have threads discussing team selections. Those of us that propose changes have our selections and loyalties questioned by you posters like you. Then when the teams are announced and we express our dissatisfaction with selection we get posters like you questioning our loyalties. Sometimes we have BACCS trying to put us int the naughty corner.

Very rarely do one of us have a crack at you guys first, it's generally us responding to the criticisms we receive for speaking our minds.

If you want a thread limited to agreeing with the team selections only, why don't we just start a thread, list the team and close it.

History ......look at majority of young AFL players
3-4 games first year
double # games in 2n year .......and those that make it start to become regulars in year 3

it's just a progression often repeated ......due to building AFL fitness ....being able to maintain standards game after game ....and being able to play with injury niggles as most do

So here's how it works.

During their first 50 games players are inconsistent and make mistakes. Gradually they improve their efficiency and after 50 games should be regularly featuring in our best players.

At the start of last year the club declared that Sam Kerridge was "AFL ready". He was made the sub against Hawthorn and then ignored for the rest of the year. In his seventh game of AFL he was named BOG by both the Crows and Kangaroos coaches. Two games later he was banished back to the SANFL for the season. So after 2 seasons he will be 41 games short of the magic 50 games.

Chad Wingard on the other hand was selected in the same draft as Sam but will have 40 odd games by the end of the year. But, but , but Chad was always going to be a champion (he averaged far fewer possessions in his first 20 games than Sam has in his 9 appearances). O.K. what about Jake Neade, selected this year from the bargain basement bin and has already played 15 games, or Sam Colquhoun. These guys would be 2 years from an appearance if they were at the Crows.

Let's see how Thommo performs with one groin (love his speed on the spread) and Porps has played a good game for Westies so he should be good for another season and a half of gold passes.

I thought it was a cracking game, sure some players didn't play their best granted. but your not going to drop those players on the back of one bad game and your not going to drop Thompson if he says he can play. Thommo is an out and out champion and sure he hasn't had the best season but think about all the years where Thommo single handed held up our shit midfield before Danger and Co stood up. He deserves every benefit of the doubt.

yes but no-one is EVER happy with team selections

7 first year players with reasonable games totals and still not happy

It seems to m e that because most here never see players live ...they want them to play an AFL game so they can be evaluated .....really good selection policy

:thumbsu: agreed .....i have said always that you can tell very early which player will make it and be good

They just stand out .....and composure, smarts and having plenty of time are key indicators

Kerridge was unlucky in his first year that the club had virtually a full list to pick from and all were playing well. Chad was playing in a team too shit for words and was always going to get every benefit of the doubt. Chad was also pick 5 or something compared to kerridge pick 27. This season he had a blinder in the north game no doubt. I think he hurt his shoulder or knee or something when the crows were going to select him. I am not sure whether he returned to his form in the SANFL that got him the North Game. That's probably keeping him out of the side if that is the case.

Don't know about you but against Freo I wanted to play our best side and win, that's why i was upset

That's an absurd theory

Its certainly selective. Sando has always made it very difficult for Johncock to keep his spot in the side, or otherwise earn it back.

The likes of Thompson have been infallible regardless of form...but I guess its no surprise that a reigning and two time B&F has been given the benefit of the doubt.

Don't quite understand the Porplyzia, Mackay and Reilly love-in though. Although I thought Porplyzia's latter season form was much better than early on.
there's certainly point in the bank wit these guys ......Reilly apart from some UNACCEPTABLE howlers has been good 75% of th time

Mackay is thee fo what h e showed last week ....line breaking speed and yes a LOT of faith been shown
Porplyzia ......well iam not quite as sure why the perserverance here?
