Douglas hoping for medical clearance to play and is now listed as test. A decision will be made later in the week.
Encouraging news. With Pods fit and JJ not firing a shot Saturday I don't see any changes up forward (save for LJ who will no doubt get 3 )

If we include Douglas you would have to think he and 2 others have their hands up - Crouch/Laird.

Douglas comes straight back in of course for one of Porps, Martin or Lyons.

Will we make 3 changes though?

Edit: anyone think Charlie is ready and if so might he be in the mix?

I thought Lyons was very good in his limited game time

Love to see Dougie back in - will add ALOT.
However, really want them to be careful with him. Take any necessary precautions - its not an area you want to mess around with if he wants to keep options open about having a family.

Watch the replay where Bartel kicks three he spent time on him or more accurately no where near him.
Very hard to assess who is on him if no one is near him.
Closest player may have been switching onto him due to turnover up field (which is when many of these goals were kicked). Or he may have switched unto him given he just got a goal over the back.

Countless factors in there - makes it very difficult to know who was standign Bartel (or supposed to be standing somewhere near him...) when those over the back goals were kicked.

If in fact Jaensch did match up on Bartel at any point then that is clearly a physical mismatch and a problem created by either the coaches or defensive leaders.

He wasnt his direct opponent as I saw it.
Watching the game again it looked like brown was his direct opponent in that stretch.

I was gonna say, he kicked at least 1 one Brown.
Brown tends to ball watch at contests allowing his player to get Goal side on crumbs and kick them.

Yep, gets lost too much to be last line of defence.
I presume Laird will take that position when fit.

Its not all doom and gloom guys.
Put it this way, we were missing Crouch, VB, Douggie as starting mids
We missed Laird, Henderson as a starting backs and Walker, Otten as starting forwards.

Thats literally a third of our starting lineup missing.

Our main problem against Geelong was that our top midfielders were very quiet.

Dougie went missing , Crouchy looked a bit underdone and Danger, Sloaney and Thommo were relatively quiet.

The good news was that our back up midfielders were good (Wrighty, Kerridge, Grigg and Lyons). I was at the match and the Geelong pressure was fantastic. Our backline looked in disarray in the first quarter but given the avalanche of clean ball coming into their forward line, this was to be expected.

My key concern was the lack of pressure from our small forwards (except for Eddie). Martin, LJ, Smack, Porps and Danger had a total of 6 tackles. Podz and Eddie were better but that was all that Podz did on Thursday night.

I haven't seen the replay yet but it was not obvious at the match who was working as our tagger(s). Geelong were certainly happy to put hard tags on our guys.

It's only one match but we need speed and tackling intensity this week. I would leave out Martin and Porps.

Playing Charlie is not out of the question.

I would like to officially apologise to Matthew Jaensch, his family, his many girlfriends and his workmates for the personal crusade I went on to crucify him, gut him and have him keel hauled after our loss to Geelong.

In my defence I had consumed quite a large amount of Coopers Clear and a lovely bottle of Pirrimimma Sparkling Shiraz for my wife's birthday - yes things got personal I said things I regret Matthew and I hope we can all just move on, however, Matthew if you are going to continue to make our first 22 could you please ask your boss to play you on the wing or around the half forward line for OHSW reasons, you cannot be expected to put up with my taunts, pathetic threats and abusive language next Saturday afternoon as your opposition kick goals over your head or you place a handball onto your mates chest just as Schultz and friends are about to consume them.

For those of you who I upset challenging Champion Data I apologise - but like that stubborn child at school secretly I still think MJ at 100% is BS.

I promise to drink a beer with anyone who would like to talk through my issues on the Hill Saturday afternoon.

I saw Matty Wright on him a fair bit to begin with, however when he went forward if "appeared" as if Brown was on him.

This debate is going to be hard to settle cos of one underlying problem, Bartel didnt actually have an opponent ;)

I know that DE isn't the be all and end all of guidelines, but not sure what more Matty Jaensch could do being at 100%. Lets give him a bit of a break. Also had 5 Rebound 50s, 4 I50, 3 tackles and 3 one percenters. Thats a fairly good game from Matty and shows that he worked both end of the grounds. Deserves his praise and stays in the team as I've said before.

Sammy Shaw another interesting one with a team high 7 one percenters. Just reinforces his defensive ability and reading of the play. Didnt do much else and went at 64% efficiency. I thought he had a pretty solid game until the 4th. In two minds about him atm but I think he stays based on us having no other options. Hartigan could come in, but I think that makes us too defensive with Talia and Rutten already in the side, at least Sam Shaw can take the ball forward and has somewhat of an attacking mindset.

OUT: Shaw and Martin (Both finished at the AFC)
IN: Hartigan and Reilly

Smack and Jaensch were good. Just the usual Big Footy crowd cant see through the hate of their whipping boys.

This has to rate as the funniest thing I've seen on here for yonks.

how do we get Hartigan into the team?

Sorry, Cap, but based on his run on Saturday, we don't. Was clearly out marked one on one by Ainger on a couple of occasions and didn't do as much around the ground as we've come to expect. Can't see anyone to drop for him as I imagine we'll give Shaw at least another couple of games to come good.

In all seriousness. Andrew Ainger is a better Footballer than John Butcher who would likely be Hartigans match up

Difference was Shaw and Martin were complete Rubbish.
Jaensch and Smack offered quite a bit.
If Smack kicks straight he ends up with 3 or 4.
Matty Jaensch has a right boot second to none

Bolded is exactly right. I thought he was servicable for 3 quarters.
He looked shockingly exposed in the last quarter though, he obviously had 0 left in the tank because he couldnt chase, tackle and didnt look like he wanted the ball.

Gotta remember the guy only played a few games of AFL last season, he will take a couple of games to get full match fitness and the pace of the game.

Gimme a break.
Change up the usual whipping boys.
Jaensch,Martin and McKearnen are far from the trash heap as far as this game is concerned. This comming for a guy who usually loves to heap shit on all 3.
AFAIK the fringe stood up tonight. The Cream curdled.

Scott Thompson/DMac and bar the first quarter Porps should go based solely on tonights effort. Sloane = average also.

They need to sit down and dicuss what the hell exactly are each individuals rolls in that midfield. I.E, who blocks, whos in, whos out, who tags, who makes the play. Its a bloody rabble despite Jacobs smashing it.

:thumbsu::thumbsu::thumbsu::thumbsu::thumbsu:

But AFAIK = ??????
