Gold Jerry Goldk Neil?
Language has generally accepted parameters at any point in history, though. You can't just go making words up and then use the fact that language evolves as an excuse.

For all intensive purposes... one foul swoop... mute points... chomping at the bit... on tender hooks... adverse to... I've heard and seen all of these written so I guess they're right and are now part of this ever changing language of ours. Also Andy Ottens... Brent Riley... Daniel Tahlia... are also acceptable.
And you now might like to join this chap, pissing in the wind.Yes, this is how a lot of language develops.
I should of known it would turn into this. For all intensive purposes... one foul swoop... mute points... chomping at the bit... on tender hooks... adverse to... There is a difference between the evolution of language and its improper usage. See job application example.Yes, this is how a lot of language develops.
Of course, examples like those you state don't always catch on, because they don't necessarily work as well for us, either because we're not satisfied with how well they communicate what we mean, or because it's not practical, or whatever the social driver.
Go back to being a Freo supporter, bloody hell. This isn't even remotely the point I was making.Okay.
You are saying a multi-premiersihp, All-Australian chamion of the game yet to hit 25, is a good comparison for Nathan van Berlo...because he's had a down month.
Am I reading this correctly? I am, because that's what you're saying.
There is a difference between the evolution of language and its improper usage. See job application example.
Not as different as I thought, and VB is ahead in a few areas. Selwood with more clangers per game too...I'd hope so.
Seriously, he is a lovely guy, very polite, friendly, well spoken and thoughtful... None of which is particularly relevant in this discussion (unless people are attempting to shift the goal posts away from his actual footballing performances).
Baccs, just for you, I checked out Selwood (who has been quiet for half the season) vs VB;

He's always the player who revs the team up before the match, watch for this on Saturday. I remember someone on here recently criticizing him for having a go at a younger player (can't remember who) for not being in the right position (which is perfectly fine to do as a captain, when it's not demonstrative). Can't have it both ways.Maybe I'm missing it. Also now that he's out of the centre square more often he misses the little 'team huddles' before each bounce which are often the visible signs of leadership.
In the three groups they had on the weekend at the 1/4 and 3/4 breaks (defence, mids, forwards) van Berlo was actually with the forward line group.
He seems a little bit like a player without a home at the moment. Has played a bunch of different roles and doesn't "own" a position or a role. Filling in wherever the team needs him but I'd rather he was a rock in the structure somewhere.
A normal type of thread after Amer has entered and gone on one of his many rants about nothing to do with footy.Ok, what the **** has this thread degenerated into?
Fair enough, I'll watch closer this weekHe's always the player who revs the team up before the match, watch for this on Saturday. As distinct from the existence of your defence being evidence enough that there isn't a problem.
See how this works?
Uh, you can and you do every day, it's called language.
Your brain has been institutionalised. These are not chemical properties, or measurements, or provable models, but we adopt a like framework to disseminate language to new brains as efficiently as we can. Language is a conception. It's like economy. It is necessarily personal. What the "adjudicators" of language do for you, is they set a broad framework for a tongue, so it translates across distance and between large numbers. And, I mean, it comes with the territory; like religion; like politics; that there develops an inflated sense of position and ownership and all the rest of that. We want to be really particular so we can be authoritative. So you get, and are taught, particulars that, to deviate from, don't mean you're doing anything wrong or no longer using that tongue. That's humans combating insecurity and nurturing ego.
Language is and has always been perpetually transforming - really quickly. To say evolution is an excuse, you're probably thinking of a rate of evolution like our own, physically. Language visibly evolves moment to moment and inherently belongs to masses of individuals, each with their own language economy, some arbitrary, some based on environment and all that comes with that; further still you have colonies, with broad distinctions, and eventually you get global. When a phrase like "australian english" emerges, that tells us we're "wrong" enough now that we can be acknowledged as, well, suddenly right. This is completely, completely arbitrarily decided.
ClayMonk, and others - it's also...incredibly dumb...to police language. Because your contention there, based on the inherent nature of language, is that you own a means of expression that vastly transcends you as a being, and a language that, if you want to adhere to the dictionary's military framework, you would know a few percent of.
I use deitise because I've heard it spoken and seen it in print on enough occasions, to consider it usable, and understandable. I note that those who complained understood it too. But please, continue telling me how I'm...aheh..."wrong", and how I need to wait for my "word payout" from the government of language.
God forbid if any one among you expressed themselves a a human, a free thinker, as opposed to a brainless product of the great machine.
Anyway my changes:
In: Crouch
Out: Martin
Reilly the sub. Or drop him. But we won't do that.
Jaensch forward is an interesting one.
Kicked those 3 second half goals against Carlton and looked dangerous. Had one game there versus Hawthorn, didn't set the world on fire (13d, 4t, 0.1) and it was abandoned. Surely it was worth another shot given that we have struggled for sooo long for a small forward who can kick goals and provide some decent speed/defensive pressure?
Fair enough, I'll watch closer this week
Diddums. It's 12 months ago. Time to let it go.I always assumed you were visually impaired.
Didn't happen to notice a spare man (or two) in the Freo backlines last week Carl.
I've missed your insightful comments regarding our hard tackling, fast ball movement game plan this year Spackler. Is losing 4 of our last 6 games at Footy Park part of the spike?
Selwood and Cotchin are my two favourite non Crows players, love watching them play. I was just pointing out players have form dips, it happens. Doesn't mean they are no longer best 22.

Interestingly Roos gave a detailed explanation tonight how "dopey" defenders get dragged up the field allowing space over the back. Sydney make no such errors, nor Roos' disciple Ross Lyon.
Keep ignoring how the game works as long as you like. I'm sure Tony Shaw still sees it as you do.
The really disappointing thing of the season so far is how quickly you've lost faith in Craigy's kids. Don't worry though - they've been developed beautifully.
ie have more there than the opposition forwards. We're not talking about teams lining up with 6-on-6 and a defender not following his man when he moves upfield. We're talking teams that start with one extra player in the D50 at the centre bounce as Freo (and Adelaide) did almost all last weeks match. To Whom It May Concern,
I am able to communitcatise well, in both speakish and writish forms. I am an insightful wordwright with a clever gift to constructize schize.
I tried googling deitise. Got nothing.
I don't know why, it's a perfectly cromulent word.
