Put up this thread because I am fairly confused about the changes for tonight. Does anyone feel the same way? These are the point that left me scratching my head:

- Adelaide have probably the second most powerfull tall foward line in the comp (behind cats) so why is it we drop McGuane? He has been more then servicable in all his games so far. Now our backline will be an underdone Thursty, Bowden and Polak against the Adelaide talls.

- Surely even with Thursty available we need at least one of McGuane or Moore to play. This would ultimaly give us Thursty, Polak and McGuane/Moore to play on 3 of there best foward while Bowden is freed up as the quater back where he does his best work

- Why drop Huges? Again, like McGuane he didn' have the best game last week but his games preceding it should have been enough to see him get another go

- I have that McGuane and Huges have been dropped because its probably going to be wet. But then why have blokes like Tiva & Hyde have been left in the team as they would be more likely to struggle with the conditions. Also one would think Karkouer would be alot more value in scrappy conditions then a plethora of outside midfielders in Meyer, Jackson and Edwards.

- Why is Jackson back in? According to the team he will start on back flank. Surely Moore who was one of the best last week for the Burges would be a match "Moore";) suitable replacement.

- The only real change i agree with is Krak and JON out for form purposes with Thursty and either Edwards/Meyer coming in.

I have been pretty optimistic this season going into matches, but with this line up against the Crows I, for the first time, don't even think we are a chance.

Thoughts???

mcguane - replaced by thursty who has more competitive and has more confidence in his skills.
hughes - unable to win any contested ball, need to work on his work rate and ground work. delido is in the forwards so should provide a bit more of a contest when the ball is kicked to the forwards.
jacko- can play at both ends and should be developed, moore had his chance and didnt show much.
kraks - was unlucky, it was his first run for some time, replaced by tambling who they are developing as a fp.
tives & hyde - are regulars and shouldnt need to give up their places.
edwards and meyer - need them to impove and win some 50/50 balls, like last years batch (raines, polo and foley).

Not unhappy about McGuane being dropped. Let him go back to Coburg and find some form and maybe enjoy his footy a bit more. Hughes has been going alright, but I have no issue with him being dropped either. Good to see Edwards and Meyer getting another run.

i was a little surprised with a few of the outs, but pretty happy with the ins. jackson is a funny one, they are giving him a lot of chances to prove something, and i don't see what he has even remotely done in the seniors to warrant such faith - surely his LAST chance tonight

McGuane i think was just a matter of a slight drop in form, the opportunity to give thursty a run and the conditions. marking forwards will find it very tough tonight, so if you can make joel your third tall, you basically have 4 capable running players who are good around their ankles - compared to three. thursty is also better than mcguane in that area, and in running up the ground so i can make sense of that also - even agree with it. another run in the seconds for macca will help him too, a reminder that it isn't that easy to make a senior team - and hopefully he goes to tassy and has a blinder of a match, to prove he has developed well beyong that level.

hughes dropped is a bummer - but i must think its the conditions- two marking forwads will be enough in a night like tonight. players such a tambling and pettifer are the real keys to goals tonight i think.

krak would probably be in his element tonight - i agree. and on that premise, perhaps should have been picked. but personally, i think krak has some other personal shit on his mind and considering where his career is at - he can't afford that. he needs to play for the burgs till the mid season break, have the week off and get his personal shit sorted out. after then, he needs to have a blinder of a second half to repay our faith in him or he will be moved on. a player in his position cannot be distracted by the outside forces - or he will find his career over. that may be tough or harsh, but its reality.

I just wonder if they've put Meyer in to see if he's a little more enthusiastic whilst playing in front of an Adelaide crowd?

It was good work from Wallace dropping Meyer last week. Getting into the side (vs Geelong) the week before a trip to adelaide he may have felt he was home and hosed for a trip back home to adelaide that week. Dropping him would have dissapointed him in a big way - and Im sure Wallace was watching to see how he would react with the burgers... He responded strongly and subsequently got rewarded this week. I'll bet we see meyer get an extended run from here on in...

Like emperor i dont mind seeing McGuane and Hughes dropped. Conditions by all reports indicate it will be wet and its a good chance for both of them to go back to coburg and show they are above that level of footy now. Jon needed to be dropped, so did Krak.

I really hope Jackson plays in the backline. Hes not a midfielders a-hole, we have better forwards, if he wants to save his skin he needs to show something as a medium defender.. Let Moore tear it up at coburg a little longer, get some more confidence and then show us what hes got in the seniors

Can't figure for the life of me why Jackson's in and out every second week this year. He's been on the list since the 2003 draft, so he's either capable of making it as a league footballer, or he's not. Surely you wouldn't keep him on the list if he's not up to standard. Like a few others this year (and previous years), they seem to be playing them like tampons: in one week and out for three.

I understand the idea of not having too many talls in the forward line, but surely on form you'd have to give Reiwoldt his chance. God knows we could use him in spells in the ruck. IMO, I don't think JON looks like doing much, even in a couple of years with experience. he looks awakward (and that's saying something when you consider how awkward Richo looks sometimes - not knocking Richo either, he's a champ). JON gets the ball and turns it over with bad kicking.

After last week, why the hell hasn't Tivendale been dropped? Sure he got a bit of it, but as usual, his kicking turned it over almost every time, not to mention his shots at goal. I'd be getting rid of him at the end of the year if I was the coach. Krakouer's had his day and only produced occasionally.

Jake King looked good last week and did a bit with it so he might be a good player.

Guns, I've been optimistic going into a couple of games, but before the Geelong game and last week's game against Port I thought we were in for a couple of beltings. They stuff around with the ball too much and go backwards and side to side. If they played direct (and improved their disposals), I reckon they could surprise a few teams.

Anyway, that's just my thoughts.

Not a bad first-up post Al. :thumbsu:

Thanks tugga, appreciate it. But I've got to say that I think those are the thoughts of most Richmond supporters (apart from the one-eyed ones that think we're gonna win every week - sometimes you've gotta be realistic).

Do you think we have the game plan to challenge in a couple of years, and/or the right coach to get us there?

I know as much or as little as anyone else Al. We have no choice but to buckle up and go along for the ride. And whatever happens, we keep the rose-coloured glasses next to the bedside table when we need them, like when we are with the missus. No place for them here.

I mentioned this in another thread and got no real response so let me say it again. Riewoldt is a big chance of coming into the side tonight. Can't see Wallace playing Richo as a pinch hitting ruckman and leaving Schulz as the sole tall forward. Would catch the Crows off guard somewhat and could take the pressure of Jack as most will be expecting him to debut next week against the Dons.

Spot on, just strap in and go for the ride. I was majorly critical of them in another thread after the Geelong thrashing, and said that all members should have been down at the club demanding their money back for the performance they put in. Did I cop it from a couple of people? They went nuts at me and got a bit personal (which I laughed at). I'm not now, and never will abandon my team, but I think we all have the right to vent our frustration with them when they serve up certain performances.

There's one guarantee with Richmond, you know you're in for a roller-coaster ride each year with highs and lows. But that's part of the reason we love them!!!
