My condolences mods....you poor poor bastards
There are pluses and minuses, of course.
It does help to keep the stupids and football nuffies in one place, the Anti-Scott thread.
It's only when they get off the reservation and pollute the rest of the board that they become anything more than a minor irritant.

Look at our best 22.
Take out those who were best 22 before he started.
Take out trade-ins
Take out youngsters (though promising) where it's too early to judge.
There's not a of Scott developed players left that have progressed how we'd hoped
Yes injuries are out of his control but I believe he and his team have not performed well with developing players
1. Name those players that are left, and consider reasons they are not B-A graders.
2. He now has 4 years to develop his team.
And if there is no flag, so be it.
17 other clubs are also in the hunt.

Making top 4 4 times in five 5 years makes me think the return should have been slightly better than two finals wins and a raft of smashings.

Also, when you go out and recruit senior players with the express purpose of competing for a flag, it makes me think that a pass would at least be a grand final appearance.

Its a very difficult comp .. etc .. so I can understand not winning it.. but sitting in your seat and 15 minutes into the final you are gone ... and its happened multiple times. .. A competitive goal for goal loss few people will feel let down by .. a result when we were obviously inept... just makes one feel like a mark in a conman movie

I was thinking about this the other day. Geelong has not had a player make AA who was drafted by the club in the last ten years. If you cut the current team into categories, you basically have: players who were traded in, players already there when Scott came in, mature-age draftees who required little development (i.e. Kelly and Menegola) and kids. The few people who have been developed under Scott have turned out well below where they need to be, and many of them have downright failed.

The only one I can think of who was a kid when Scott arrived and has developed into a quality player is Duncan.

Things may change this year with Stewart & Blicavs in contention for AA spots

I’m no Chris Scott basher and generally don’t post in this thread but this seems overkill.
If he fails this year, as in out of the finals early than the lynch mob will be out early. There will be 4 years left.
If he fails again next year, and many fans think with this talented list anything but a GF will be a failure. 3 years left.
Are we really on the up in 2020? Sheesh I don’t think many fans are gonna put up with the same coach going close for a decade. He is on a hiding to nothing and unless we make a GF this year or next, I can’t see him lasting the length of the contract or even going close.
It’s going to be draining listening to the haters for another 4 years without success.

Let me recap for you in case you haven’t been following the team for a long time...

We haven’t had access to A grade talent due to our ladder position. We’ve developed B grade talent and recruited well because we are a well run destination club that makes finals year upon year.

Based on the players we’ve actually been able to draft we’ve got low odds of getting them into an AA team who historically value high profiles and consistency over a period of time.

Now you know.

I don't think a great coach is necessary to win a flag I mean look at Bulldogs and Richmond. I'd have him before them but changes to the list need to be made we topped up to win a flag and haven't been a contender in finals since 2013.

And Henry should top 3 the Rising Star if they have any brains.

Plus look at this list.
Menzel
McCarthy
Cockatoo
Gregson
Thurlow.

None have had a good run at it due to injury. There are some v good players there that have had really shit luck.

None of this is Scott's fault.

Scott on 360

"I'm really looking forward to working with Tim Kelly for a long time, Esava Ratugolea, Tom Stewart, Lachie Fogarty, Charlie Constable"

Kelly? Does he know something we dont?

Regardless of what actually happens the more they get the message out that they expect him to stay for the long term the more reasonable our expectations for 1st round picks become

Lol look at our best 22 and take out the players he started with, the players we traded for, and the players we drafted and by definition we have zero players

On a side note....

A lot of detractors wax lyrically about Matthew Scarlett. In fact every single person who loves the GFC knows what Scarlett did for this team. He’s ruthless, abrasive and is principle driven first and foremost. He was known as the de facto leader behind Harley.

Most people would do well to consider how a GFC legend (who was instrumental in keeping Bomber, at the end of 2006, by threatening to walk), who has such a huge amount of love for the club would support Scott as a player and then subsequently come back and be one of his assistant coaches...
Now that is a great insight.

Quickly edited.
Absence for 2 weeks, and he's forgotten already.
I don't mind Kolo either.
I was going to name Kolo also (but I know he isn't everyone's favourite). I thought he was really good over the first half of this year but seemed a bit lost when Henderson came back & Henry was moved forward.

I know some have suggested trading him but I view him as a keeper and long term Cat

Agree.
He is a keeper.
I hope Thurlow is too.

I think Kolo just needs to play up the ground further. He dominated in that final against Sydney last year

Disregarding the father sons, our flag teams had 3 top 10 picks and none higher than 7
We are the example that you can build a great team without the very top picks so maybe you're the one that hasn't been following the team for a long time

Where did I say "players we have drafted"
I left out the youngsters, while mentioning they look promising, as it's too early to judge
There are still 5-6 years and about 25 national draft picks that are eligible.
