Did a human movement degree w/ honors whilst a player. Set up a fitness company post retirement. Then moved to Brisbane in a fitness role prior to taking on the senior job with them.

I am interested in who they're planning to bring in under him.

I am very concerned about this appointment. I wonder who will be prepared to work under someone with 60 months relevant experience. The sentence in bold about working in collaboration with the senior coach suggests that all outcomes in the fitness area (for good or bad) are not solely his responibility.

His Honours degree in Human Movement is the absolute minimum qualification for this work.

Burton on AA now , seems like he's talking up his experience as a player as a key point of difference to other high performance managers

Finding this whole thing pretty staggering that he would be general manager of high performance with 5 yrs of experience ( which was far from a proven elite environment )

Somebody ask Fagan about this in next bigfooty meeting

I cant see Burton doing a bad job....

Would not be appointed if Roo & Fages didn't think he will fit well in the PW program, mind you his time in the players association will bring value more to our playing squad moving forward...

more importantly i wonder if he has Redden in his suitcase???

You could argue his entire professional career has been relevant experience. He's played at an elite level, coupled that with relevant tertiary education, then run his own personal training business and worked for 5 years at another professional sporting club.

Has anyone emailed Fagan yet?

I like Burton, but I cannot see how he has the CV for this role.

Clarke's extension is on the back of Walsh's recommendation

Just prior to Phil's death he and Fages had a detail review of the Coaching team and Walsh wanted to keep both Clarke and Campo

On Burton I don't think we should jump to judgements, results will best judge his performance

When did you know Milburn was being moved on?

Because I'd heard different to the above.

No formal qualifications whatsoever from whats been said. Elite standards already going out the window.

This position is fundamental to our onfield success. This appointment has already cost us Poulos.

This is the biggest fcuk up under Fagans tenure.

Heard Burton on AA. Whilst not that inspired about his CV and experience, I did like the sound of his philosophy in regards to training guys to play football and not be athletes. Replicating what happens on field as much as possible.

Hardly ground breaking stuff and didn't inspire me

Hope they hire a gun to work under him, might be hard to find at this stage with only 6 weeks until pre season

Just totally bemused how Burton can become our general manager of fitness etc is this how Fagan achieves the elite coaching team by picking a ex player not all that long out of game with a record of massive injury proportions at Brisbane.
Then golly we are giving Clarke another 2 seasons because Jacobs happens to be good but what of who gets the ball and who breaks clear from scrimmage or centre.
Poulos wants to leave

I thought earlier in the year Walsh mentioned something about trying to get Brendan Lade but had to wait for his contract to run out ?
I was hoping we would get him and he would replace Clarke, but it doesn't look like it now.
It will be interesting to see who replaces Milburn also ?

I hear this guy might be available.

I wonder what Dr. Andrew Potter, who has been with the Crows since 1997 thinks of someone with a degree in Human Movement telling him how to run his medical program.

It sounds like to me Poulos wasn't willing to take on less responsibility but that his skill set, especially in the area of managing a larger team in a more hands off role wasn't what the club was after for this role.

Burton said the description of his new position is very similar to the one he had at Brisbane.

Surely we must bring in somebody under him in the role Poulos would of done. I don't like the sound of "we're not sure if we will fill that role", either it would of been something the club required and we should fill the role or we will be stretched in that area.

Just shocked at how dismissive noble was of Poulos

Nick’s technical knowledge is great and he has been a dedicated and hard-working member of our physical performance team,” Noble said.

Yeah that is a backhanded compliment if ever I heard one.
Translation ... "Nick has technical knowledge but his people skills are terrible and all the players hate his guts. We are well rid of him."

I am a bit surprised by this. I thought Nobes liked Poulos ... well he did just a year or two ago anyway.

Polous has moved on to a bigger stage. People suggesting he has been shafted need to remember he has won a better job.

For these guys involvement in any Olympic program is near to the peak of their profession.

I'm all for the birdman to return!

I can't see why all the worry...

if pyke is coming as people believe, is there good history between pyke and birdman?
Perhaps, and I'm only saying maybe there is more to this appointment that will come out in the wash

Rugby Sevens is hardly the pinnacle.

Bad Boy Bubby would try [emoji6]

Genuinely surprised that you've named Burton as the head of your high performance program. Doubt you would find a single lions supporter who is sad to see him go. I must admit he did stem the raft of soft tissue injuries that plagued us before he came on board (most of our injuries this year were collision based) however as a team we constantly looked undersized with even our senior players looking skinny and unable to physically compete. How much did that lack of size hurt us in collisions and cause some of our injuries is hard to tell.

Even with our slight frames we still didn't run out games very well although some of that can be contributed to having to chase so much from turning the ball over every time we got it.

I don't know if you can put any of this down to resourcing on our part or not. Was he not able to get the staff or facilities to implement what he wanted? Were our fitness staff spread to thin to fully monitor players? Its hard to say but he certainly had a number of underwhelming years with us. On the surface it certainly appears a strange appointment given his track record with our team over the last few years.
Absolutely agree. After listening to his radio interview lets hope his physical performance knowledge is better than his media skills. Really hope it's not a 'jobs for the boys' appointment..
