Good move, although if the VFL team is full of ruckman again, not even John Longmire could get the team any further up the ladder.

I'm rapt in this. Long overdue that we started to look at our VFL team more seriously from a coaching perspective rather than a jobs for the boys appointment. I think Tarks has been a great servant of the CFC and hope the club can find something else for him.

I hope this is only the start in changes of the support group around Buck's. I'd like to see Lappin move on as I can't see that he has added much in the past season, and if you compare our current crop of assistants they are no where near the quality of Watters / Neeld and co from previous years under MM.

Is there any chance Adam Simpson being pried out of Hawthorn to lead our midfield group? hat about Stewy Dew or John Blakey from the lions. Both have done a great job in my view with their gameplan and respective areas ( Stoppages / Defence)

uggh I meant Swans of course ... doh

Great move, Tapping is a great development coach, and that's what we need in charge of our VFL squad.

We've shown over the past few seasons that we are obviously not interested in winning VFL games at the cost of development of our youngsters, so why not put a full time development coach in charge.

Lockyer and Brown were good, but they didn't have the experience in the handling of young players that Tapping does, this can only improve our development system.

Very good move to get a coach with a record of successful coaching developing young players.

Tarks, lovely bloke, wonderful player, thank you for your efforts with the boys.

Hard to judge Tarks. His job was never to win VFL games but when we needed a player to stepminto the 1s they were ready. To me that says he did his job well.

I reckon it's a great move! Dale has had great success in the TAC cup as a senior coach, maybe he will understand where the boys are at a bit more having been in this sort of environment before.

Great move. Tapping has proven it at TAC Cup level. Unfortunately, Tarks just doesn't seem like a senior coach.

Sure, our 2nds team serves as a development platform for the Seniors.

I'm sure Geelong would say the same thing, and they won the VFL Grand Final this season.

Something did need to be done.

Was going to make that point; Geelong have done well with their stand-alone VFL team.

I'm looking forward to seeing some senior-listed players actually dominating the VFL games for once. Josh Thomas had about 5 listings in the best players in the last half-dozen games after returning from injury. It used to be that you had to do such things before getting a senior game.

With Macnamara, Witts, Wood & Ceglar all playing regularly in the same teams, its no wonder we struggled in the VFL!
Throw in Pendlebury, Paine, Gault, a sprinkle of Keeffe, Hartley and Brown - then it becomes a train wreck.

Expect next year to be even taller and slower and less skilled....
This is a list of 190cm + players we could be seeing in the VFL team:

Lynch - 192
Dawes - 193
Hartley - 196
Brown - 195
Keeffe - 204
Stewart - 196
Goldsack - 193
Witts - 209
Ceglar - 204
Gault - 198
Paine - 191
Young - 190
Pendlebury - 190 (VFL list)
Boland - 193 (VFL list)
Head - 193 (VFL list)
Hine - 190 (VFL list)
Heagney-Steart - 190 (VFL list)
Draftee - 190+
Draftee - 190+
Rookie draftee - 190+
Rookie draftee - 190+

Total of 22. Most likely see 14-16 of these 22 each week in the VFL. Where the **** are they going to play???

This also assumes that Wood (204) and Buckley (190) are delisted.

I know this will rile a few up, but Lockyer was as good a VFL coach as he was a player.

Sorry, but it's true.

Glad this move was finally made.
WTF.

seriously ed some of your posts are amazing.

you hate on toovey and think he is complete shit and now this cmon tarks was a good player.

I'm glad we looked after Tarks, he was a loyal servent of the club....but thank god he is gone as coach of the VFL! The most uninspiring coach of a team that I have seen!

The one caveat is that is was hamstrung with a team of talls, the club needs to get a VFL magoos (development league) team
up and going to give Tapping a real chance.

Good move. Mate of mine played under him in the vafa when he coached old scotch. Very well respected by the players and a very popular coach.

I like the move, tarks did an okay job but in a cut throat industry and as the collingwood football club we do and should only accept exellence.

I think tapping will do a better job and we will wreak the benefits over the next few years. Tarks is a good bloke but im not convinced if i want him on the coaching panel. yes some our kids came in and did okay in the AFL, but kids look way better in a good team so i think some are overrating how good tarks was thanks to this factor

Sorry, I never thought so.

Too small, too slow, and sometimes you can forgive that if a small player is hard and nuggety like say, Blair, but Lockyer wasn't even that.

The only thing Lockyer had going for him was an accurate kick. Even that abandoned him towards the end of his career. Sorry, but I've never been a Collingwood supporter who appreciated the 'blue collar' triers like Licuria and Lockyer.

So it didn't surprise me in the least that Lockyer did nothing for our VFL side.
