Yeah we do get the short straw in the media alot but i've never liked complaining about these things.

It is what it is and there is not much we can do about it. I usually don't read anything North related except NMFC site and i don't have to put myself through reading anything else.

Another poster in here has said before Shinboners don't care about these things.

The way we finished last year and the experience we lost is all the media have to go on for now like Kimbo said.
A few good performances in the JTL and players like Preuss, EVW, Sympkin have already been noticed. I've heard some parts of the media in here or radio say North will surprise a few people.

But i don't need anyones(media, journos) approval to follow or be excited about 2017, i don't want the saturated press Coll and Richmond get after a few wins.
We aren't one of the traditional clubs with a large fanbase like someone said, whatever sells papers and all that and what suits the AFL's agenda.

And to be honest we haven't done much in 17 years apart from make some Prelims.

Round 1 hasn't started yet and i don't give a Flying ***K what Robbo or Kingy think. Am i excited at what i/we have seen by the newer guys Hell Yeah.

Dumont >Dal. Dal's output last year was ordinary. At least Froggy will put his head over the ball and tackle.
There were a few games last year where Dal seemed to be running as flat out as he could, but pretty much on the spot.

Although I will admit that sums up my own last few games many MANY moons ago.....

I'm not seeing the Dal/Dumont comparisons, or contrasts for that matter. Dal's departure opens up a spot, and while this will assist Trent to lay a claim to a senior berth, I don't see why people are comparing them. Is it because he can't be compared as easily to Boomer or Wellsy? Surely Swallow is the closest comparison, if we're going to try and compare him to another one of our players.

I suspect there's a better comparison from another club if we feel the need to do this.

Agreed. Dal spent the last couple of years at North predominantly off half back/wing/occasionally inside, setting up the play. Reckon this role will be filled by MacMillan this year.

He's a hard one to compare, Dumont. I remember when we he was first drafted that so many comparisons were thrown up it was easiest to say that he was comparable to Trent Dumont.
I can't really think of another midfielder I've watched that's slow, strong, covers the ground well, tackles like mad, marks well overhead, has good composure by hand and is an exceptional short kick.

Diesel.

Not that I'm making a comparison.

SEN morning show did a chat about North this morning. General feeling seemed to be that it was a hard prune the club needed and the preseason already suggests there is real talent there that will now get a better chance to shine. I didn't catch it all though if the tape is available or anyone else heard it.

Bartel?

I can see the headline: North's Hard Prune To Swallow

Sam Mitchell?

Don't mind the Bartel comparison on a skills/body type basis, but not as a role comparison. Will be far more inside roles he plays (not that Bartel can't do it of course).
Shouldn't be compared to swallow at all. Dumont is a one touch player and will turn out a bloody good kick as well.

Sure, beyond the fact that Dal's departure makes Froggy's spot more secure, and they're both good, composed users of the ball there's not much direct comparison. Dumont is more likely to drift forward where Dal swung back into a HB sweeper role, and Dal was much more of a natural accumulator (though I hope and expect Dumont to make progress on that front). I mean, we did already have a smooth moving but one paced and slightly blasé beautiful left foot kick waiting to take Dal's spot but we delisted him too.

Comparing the overall midfield mix does make more sense but it was easier to do 1-1 comparisons to make the point.

Cunnington. Doesn't cover the ground as well but an underrated kick.

I think his underrated kick is overrated on here and think Dumont is a class or two above.
Cunnington is effective, when he's not kicking into the man, Dumont drops the ball with a finesse Ben could only dream about.

Cunnington tries to do too much with his kicks too often. He tries outside of the boot, finesse type kicks which often don't clear the man on the mark.

Better options would see his kicking rated much higher i think.

Jab Watson??

My best friend said "Jack gave me two names; Durdin and Ahern as for the two to watch out for this year"....... that would be strange since Ahern wont be playing. *shakes head....I know you're a flog already but have you been hanging around Basil too much to get our names wrong?*

I know nothing about ACL recovery, but have a nagging suspicion he'll be back second half of the year.
