Finals Week 1
9 June 2019 - Second Qualifying Final
Wazzas v Gumbies FFC at Van Cortlandt Park

Eat s**t Gumbies!

One down, two to go.
:thumbsu:

After splitting the points in the first quarter, we outscored the Gumbies in every quarter, running out winners as we cruised to a 33 point victory over the 3rd placed Gumbies, earning a week off, and a home Preliminary Final berth at Van Cortlandt.

We were awaiting the victors of the First Semi Final, seeing the 4th placed Sin City Swamprats take on the controversial Baghdad Bombers at Underground Stadium. Sin City were beaten by the reigning premier Demons with the last kick of the day, whilst the Bombers easily accounted for the Gold City Royals in their Elimination Final.

Gumbies FFC: Jivlain, haydo, snozulu, roo2macca, DERO, MattWriting

After a tight first quarter, despite never quite putting them away until late, we held the ascendancy throughout the day in what became a comfortable win against a strong Gumbies outfit. The highlight of the game being the old school FF shootout between Raveneyes (7 goals) and second year Gumby Jivlain, with 14 goals between them.

Our spearhead split best on ground honours with veteran free agent Papa Juggs (32 touches, 6 marks, 2 goals), who had his best game as a Warrior in the big win. Fellow wingman zackah (28 disposals, 7 marks) ran riot on the opposite wing, while midfielders pantskyle and makeshift centreman Freofalcon provided much needed grunt in the middle against a powerful Gumbies midfield unit. Wooshette (16 hitouts, 23 disposals and a goal) broke even in the ruck, while mercurial first year forward harry000 returned to form with 3 goals from a pocket, as did veterans Packedlunch & Kabanna with 3 themselves.

Life Membership

Congratulations Raveneyes

For just the second season in our club's history, we inducted one of our ranks to life membership of the club.

Joining club legends Wooshette, Smoooothy, Frankston Rover and zackah, is full forward and long term servant of the club Raveneyes.

After notching 150 games with the club in Round 10, Raveneyes adds life membership to his Wooshette Medal in a big season at Van Cortlandt Park for the veteran.

Congratulations to our newly minted life member, enjoy your year round pass to the whore tree and your well worn butt groove in the couch in the player's lounge.

You've earned it.

I am humbled. This is a tremendous honour.

Can't wait to get amongst it all again next season.

I'd like to thank my teammates, my captains & VC's, and the hundreds of thousands of fans that turn out to see us, week in, week out.

Oh and also the denizens of the whore tree. Your sacrifices will be remembered.

Finals Week 3
23 June 2019 - Second Preliminary Final
Warriors v Swamprats at Van Cortlandt Park

Woosh was champing at the bit to get stuck into the Swampies after the week off.

It’s my birthday and I’m on the way home from the Sunshine Coast (business trip on Wazzas petty cash account and harry000 ’s match payments)

Well rested, lean, tanned and ready for finals qooty...cyas after the outage swamp dregs.

PS there better be some booze left in the bar Wazzas (I’m looking at you zackah )

Sadly it wasn't our day in the end.

Having dispatched the Swampies by 27 points at home in Round 10, we went into the match confident of booking a berth in a Grand Final for the first time since Season 19. After surrendering the first 3 goals of the game, the rats silenced the shocked home crowd, and managed to maintain that buffer throughout what was a classic finals clash, running out 20 point winners and booking their place in the decider. The Swampies eventual premiers as they saluted in S27.

Second Preliminary Final
Coney Island Warriors 2.2 7.6 11.10 13.12 (90)
Sin City Swamprats 5.2 11.4 13.4 17.8 (110)

After the Swamprats got the jump on us, goals to comewhatmay and Kabanna (2 goals) stemmed the flow and saw us work into the contest. With both full forwards well held, coach Hardie spun the magnets, most surprisingly replaced the in-form Raveneyes (16 disposals) with vet Papa Juggs (2 goals), as the game became a midfield battle for the ages. The skipper Wooshette (16 hitouts, 20 touches) dominated rats rookie SparkleNarkle in the ruck giving us first use, but with a wasteful day in front of goal, we never managed to edge in front, the Swampies always able to answer and maintain their slim lead, which ended up the difference at the final siren.

Midfielders comewhatmay (24 touches, 8 marks, 2 goals), candiehappy (23 disposals, 3 marks) and TheInjuryFactory (21 touches, 8 tackles, 3 goals) eclipsed the much vaunted Swamprats midfield, while utility PackedLunch (19 disposals) bobbed up with a cameo in the wing after a switch from back pocket. Our forwards toiled manfully, as half forward Smoooothy (19 touches, 8 marks) , CHF leobarryustar (18 disposals, 5 marks) and forward pocket and fellow rookie harry000 (2 goals) all lively up front, while Former captain Frankston Rover held the dangerous Swamprats full forward SarahSmiles to just 3 goals from full back.

Season 27 saw skipper Wooshette and vice captain pantskyle earn well deserved All-SFA honours after amazing seasons, pants in particular recognised as vice captain of the side. I was also lucky enough to join them in a strong performance from our club. pants' sensational season was further recognised with an incredible 2nd placed finish in the Mobbs medal, while full forward Raveneyes contended all season for the FRED finishing 3rd, and rookie star harry000 finished 4th in the EKA after a ripper debut season.

Unfortunately we just fell short of a berth in the big dance.

Well that draws Season 27 to a close, as the final leaderboard sees pantskyle 's amazing season rewarded with the top votes in the Frankston Rover Medal, finishing on an incredible 52 votes. Skipper Wooshette finishes 2nd with 47 votes. Life member zackah and vice captain TheInjuryFactory finishing in equal third place, on 34 votes apiece. Full forward and newly inducted life member Raveneyes finished 4th on 32 votes, with rookie sensation leobarryustar finishing a strong season on field with 25 votes all up and a 5th placed finish. S25 Frankie winner candiehappy came in 6th position with 15 votes in another quality season in the middle, while veteran flanker comewhatmay and S27 recruit Papa Juggs finished equal 7th on 11 votes, with Warriors games record holder Smoooothy coming in a respectable 8th spot in a forward pocket with 10 votes for the season.

Some really high performers in that group in what was one of the club's most impressive seasons since joining the competition.

S27 Frankston Rover Medal

Congratulations pantskyle!

Enjoying one of the best individual seasons the club has seen since joining the comp, ruck rover pantskyle more than made up for his cursed ways in S27, finishing on an unheard of 52 votes for the season, 5 clear of skipper Wooshette in 2nd place, to cruise to a well deserved Frankston Rover Medal win. This is his first Frankston Rover Medal in just his second season at the club, this is his 5th club best and fairest award at as many clubs, in what has been to date one of the most impressive careers for anyone in the Sweet FA with 200 games under their belt. The Hall of Fame beckons.

Polling in a massive 14 matches, he polled 5 Best on Ground performances for the season, with 4 runner up efforts, most impressively missing votes in just one game from the first 14 rounds of qooty, with back to back Best on Ground efforts in Rounds 4 & 5.

Finishing #1 in the competition for Dreamteam points, EXIE and kicks, #2 in disposals, #4 in tackles and #6 in Frees For, pants enjoyed one of the most dominant seasons you'll see, finishing just shy of his second Mobbs Medal. He was a force in midfield, combining strongly with fellow All-SFA selections skipper Wooshette and fellow vice captain TheInjuryFactory to dominate opposition midfields and set up our season as we went deep into the finals.

His most dominant performance of the season was arguably his Round 1 effort in our 40 point thumping of S26 runners up the Fighting Furies. pants collected 32 possessions, 3 tackles and a goal with a huge 5 scoring shots to show his dominance both on the inside and up forward.

So please, charge your glasses to the Season 27 Frankston Rover Medallist...

pantskyle!
