Well done on a fine win tonight. You finally shook the finals blues of your back after half time. That 3rd quarter was amazing with the way your players switched it on and young Chad Cornes strutting his stuff. Geeze, he is a great mark and can take them without a whim.

I was sorry to see Roger James hurt as he is becoming one of my favourite players to watch, not exactly classy, but a good in and under player who tends to appeal to me rather than a classy player of say Hird or Voss.

At least the jokes about winning a final now can be laid to rest. If your guys play like you did in that 3rd quarter, you have a good chance to knock of the Lions at the Gabba.

Essendon did well to get this far, but IMHO, the comments about you beating an undermanned side are strictly Essendons fault. Fletcher did himself and his club a dis-service by his cardinal sin last week and paid the price and Hird was well underdone.
Playing the Captain was a bad move I thought. Wanga towelled Hird up. Wakelin missing in your side makes up for Fletcher and I think Rioli is needing a good session at Jenny Craigs over the summer.

I still think Essendon are still a threat for the flag over the next few years, but will not be the force they were in 2000. There will be a few other teams jumping over them till they rebuild again.

Best of luck for next week.

You guys are just the nicest !

:D

Chad is simply magic in the air..I dont know anyone that can literally pluck that ball out like he can

Now for Brisbane !

good luck for next year

You didn't mention Lloyd, I notice Goldenblue.

I thought Lloyd would not have made the difference, especially this season. Maybe last year and the one before, but not this year, he has been nowhere the player he has been consistently.

Hope to see him out there next year kicking bagfuls.

Yeah congratulations Port this time you CHOKED .................................the livin skit outta Essendon.

I thought young Kane Cornes played well in a big match.
The Port crowd was pathetic; Id venture to suggest that the crowd at Alberton after the game woulve been bigger

Lloyd would have been towelled by Paxman, he always is.

LOL Yeah - right!

You must have been disappointed that Lloyd wasn't playing.

I'll watch with interest how Paxman dismantles Lynch this week.

The Port crowd was pathetic;

I disagree with all this stuff about our crowd. The Brisbane crowd wasnt much better - 7000 off a sellout or whatever and youd think theyd sell it out considering they have a smaller capacity.

The Essendon crowd last week wasnt much higher than ours yet noone says anything at all about that.

The Melbourne game last week - only 20,000 non MCC members went....and thats pretty pathetic too.

As for last nights crowd......i dont see why its so bad. I dont see why everyone suddenly expects us, even tho weve average about 27,000 all year, to find another 25,000 spporters and fill out Footy Park when we havent done that all year??

And you know what the pathetic thing is......if by some freak of nature we found another 25,000 Port Supporters who could afford to go last night we would be called fairweather supporters and bandwagoners for filling out a finals game when we cant any other time.

Cant win at all!

Because finals games are all that more significant than home-and-away games? And no, I wouldn't expect it to sell out, but financial situations taken into consdieration you'd still expect a team's biggest crowds for the year to be finals. And no, it isn't just Port.

The prices were/are a joke. It just about makes it impossible for the average family to go. I don't have a problem paying and the prices didn't stop most people i know going, but we are not in the majority. Think about this the show, last weeks final and this weeks final, there aren't many average people who can afford to spend $600-800 on a family for entertainment in less than three weeks.

It's not right that people in SA pay a couple of hundred dollars for season tickets and then are slugged another $50 each to watch a final.

Jars wait till the cows finish high enough to get two home finals and see how the average cow family goes. Why should SA fans be disadvantaged again, i guess atleast the Power supporters had the chance to watch a home final and didn't get shafted by the AFL/MCC but that's another issue.

Considering he held him to 1 goal in Round 22 it could be interesting. Granted the Lions will probably generate better run on their own ground and will get the ball to Lynch better than they did at Adelaide, but I can't see Lynch having a day out.

Congrats pap people on your first finals win, especially well done to the 2 sons of Graham who were outstanding [good boys from the Bay] also to Gav who held it altogether for the Port Power in the first half,

For some reason I can't see this as a compliment. Why say "good boys from the Bay"? They both learnt their footy from Port. And "our Gav"? He's only ever played for Port-Essendon-Port.

Sorry if you can't take it as a compliment mic59 but that's the best i can do it was bloody hard enough coming out with that,
both the Cornes boys came through the ranks at Glenelg before being drafted by the paps as i'm sure you already know as for Wanganeen he is just an out & out champion who any football supporter would love to see him play for their own club, but if it makes you feel any better i will delete the "our" bit ;)

Chad played for Sturt originally but was drafted from Glenelg. Sorry if I misconstrued your use of "our" but I come from Newcastle(the one in England) and "our"(wor in Geordie) is a term that can only, in the case of sporting teams, be used by that teams supporters. i.e."Wor Jackie"(Jackie Milburn) and "Wor Alan"(Alan Shearer) can only be used by supporters of Newcasle United.

I would still like to see the dollars figures for gate-takings.
From everything that is being thrown about, I am now not so sure that the Port figures would be that bad.
In fact I am now starting to think otherwise.

Excatly if the AFL is conserned with the crowd & the gate takings, why not publish both? If the games at Footy Park have more full-paying spectators than the games in Melbourne, i'd think that even with a lesser crowd the gate-takings would be fairly similar. Also take into account that Adelaide has a lot less people than Melbourne does and is it really such a problem here?
