Splitting the two on talent is difficult.

Walker's more naturally gifted, but Tippett is near undefendanble (within the bounds of the rules, if only they applied to him).

I'd give the edge narrowly to Tippett due to this and current output.

If/once they learn to work together they have the potential to be one of the most dominant KF combinations ever. Brereton/Dunstall maybe a fair comparison?

That is what I thought Stiffy, I was just checking

to be they are both different players and should hopefully in time compliment each other very well.

I rate Tippet highly due to the challenge in matching up with him and he has shown the ability to kick the clutch goal.

Walker is well Walker and I'm looking forward to the day he turns it on on the big stage like he has done in the SANFL.

Surely people don't think the club is really at 99.9% of salary cap. Apart from Tippett what other stars do we have that would be using all of it! It was a smart comment made to prevent any player ramping up their expectations. Imagine if he had said we are cruising at 90% of salary cap.

We're not allowed to pay less than 92.5% of the cap...

Yes, I do believe that we're close to 100%. I believe that this is the normal state of operations for the club.

Front loaded contracts to our younger guys as well as back loaded old contracts allowing for last years expected drop in salary would have us close to 100%.

We should always be closer to 100%, but allowing and projecting future contrat movements. For example, if we had lots of space this year, then lets hope Sauce is front loaded hard, that way next year we have room again and we can plan for guys like Tex coming out.

Shorter length contracts help.

It would be stupid not to be at 100%. With the TV rights finishing end of year the Salary Cap will be renegotiated for 2012 with a big increase likely. We maxed out to fit Jacobs, Tambling and to keep Knights. Its the reason Tex and a lot of others have put off talks till the end of year. Should be plently of room for a pay increase.

you have: money (most compelling to a youngster such as Taylor and something we can't come close to matching), loyalty and location/living conditions.

loyalty is boys own annual stuff, leave it for your school bag :p

its going to be:
Money
Team position & relationship with coaches and players (i.e. fit)
Family
Chances of success
club facilities & professionalism

Couldn't our line of "we're at 99.9% of the cap" be just that, a line that we use during contract talk? It the club comes out and says "well we've got shit loads of cap space" then almost every player on the list will be looking to get a pay rise in their next contract negotiation. I'm not saying we do have loads of cap space, but I'm sure the club has some room to work with.

Cookies and Cream.

Love them both. ;)
Agree.

The perfect combo!

The tall, agile, contested marking pack-buster.

The leading, natural, opportunistic goal sneak.

Don't **** it up Adelaide. We'll NEVER have this opportunity again.

Good point. Hope it's shrewdness on our part, instead of us paying top $$$ to the 11th ranked team.

I hope Walker and Tippett can become our own Carey/Longmire combination. Not comparing the 2 duos but suggesting they offer the same sort of things to the structure.

It doesnt really matter what we're paying this year. What matters is we've already locked up space long term or not.

Precisely.

I think people are overstating the importance of the percentage. When you can afford to pay someone, you pay them as much as you can for now, front-ending the contract in order to have less issues later.

dunno know about that, young guys wont be expecting to earn less as they develop

On a per year basis, or on a per contact basis?

I would have thought the general expectation is that my contracts with get bigger, not the respective salary in an individual year.

The idea is that players on contracts get more earlier and less later.

i.e Thommo contracted for three years. If he's on $700k/year but you pay him $900k for the first 2 years then in the third year you only pay $300k and have more space in your cap.

Tippett is capable of being the best forward in the AFL (if he gets his kicking to level it was at the end of 09 again).

Lets not slight him.

Don't get me wrong, I think Tippett is a fantastic player but I think Walker has the tools to be in the top 5-10 players in the competition. He has that "Buddy-like" insane natural ability and skill. Not too many bigish guys that have those attributes - once in a 20 year player.

I fear he's gone.....and from what NC said tonight.....I reckon the club thinks the same. We better get used to it. With free agency looming it's goign to be a lot harder for the 2 SA based sides to be successful in this competition. We are both just about of the ladder when it comes to priorities at AFL house.

What did Sir Neil have to say?

I'll ask again... since when did a Rucci rumour hold any weight? Seriously, some posters need to get a grip!

It was a Rhett Biglnds rumour, not Rucci.

I'm sure he would have a bit more inside information being an ex player over a few tribe members basing it on a few conversations.

I don't want him to go (as he is equal with Danger being my fav player) but also don't discredit someone who would have some inside information being an explayer and all.

You need to listen Tippett's interview on 5AA from when he was on the sports show tonight. Kurt reckons Tex will stay. Craigy was only joking around at his press conference.

Ah, no, Rucci started the original rumour last year in The Advertiser to stir up Adelaide supporters. And on Biglands, he is a known liar. If you think his '70% confident' opinion means anything, then worry all you want, but I sure won't be.
