Don't think I'll ever understand how that was deemed as severe impact
The INJURY was severe, not the IMPACT; and the blurring of these two very distinct factors will always lead the tribunal to hand out incorrect or unjustifiable punishments.
It did seem like a clumsy action and probably justified a one week suspension, based solely on the action, NOT the outcome; but 3 weeks? Give me a spell.
Of course we all know that the system is inherently flawed, but it isn't changing, at least in the foreseeable future, and players, clubs and the public alike will have to continue copping poor calls like this one on the chin. Just one of the many holes the AFL are digging for themselves
AFL tribunal rules require the MRO and the appeals panel to take into account the outcome of the trip, including the injury sustained by the player offended against.
May not like it (it does lead to inconsistencies in interpretation of actions), but that's how the rules are framed.
