would love to see this match up. have watched griffen closely the last two weeks, and he has looked very sharp. i did notice however his sudden loss of speed when chasing his opponent. this is the challenge deledio needs. what do you guys think?

p.s both are avg 22 possies.

If you mean when he was chasing Lovet or Davey, what do you expect. I doubt there would be many players that could run them down from behind.

He is quick but he isn't that quick

more talking about when you dont have the ball, his work ethic to man up isnt very good. often he was 20m away from his opponent. but i guess you can get away with that knowing the ball will get turned over and you hav the confidence to make the opposition pay.. i think he is a future star dont get me wrong.

We could seriously expose the dogs for height this week. Our running game was in full flight against the dockers which will give our boys a lot of confidence.

Yeah, Davey got away from him at one stage on Friday night, but he has freakish pace! Griff has been in great form this year.... looks to have gotten over his horror 2007 with his wrecked knee and twisted bowel. Would be great to see him and Lids go head to head... Ryan has been spending more time in the midfield in the past two weeks. Do you guys see Deledio in there with him, or is Plough still keeping him down forward?

Whatever happens, I'd love to see big seasons from these two blokes and Tambling as well. It won't quieten them down completely, but at least it could dampen the Buddy Franklin Hawk supporter wankfest that seems to rear up whenever the 2004 draft is mentioned! Good luck next Sunday to the Tigers (but not too much!)... promises to be an entertaining game.

most likely deledio will start up forward, but i think he should get enough time in the middle for them to cross paths. perhaps a match up with griffen on HBF and deledio on HF, could be the go.

Griffen plays pretty much midfield now...isnt Deledio a forward this year?

Where Grif has improved over the last two seasons (and cooney as well) is that they would be in a position to goal on the run from 50m and either fluff it or pass it off unneccesarilly. This year they are both fit and confident and as a result they are both relaibly kicking those sorts of goals. Grif also seems to be concentrating on winning the inside ball and comfortably leads our clearances. His grunt at the stoppages is one of the reasons why we have improved in that area.

Grif has been either playing in the middle or on the bench. I dont think his fitness is what it could be, but no need to push it at this stage of the season when he is coming back from knee damage last season.

Our supposed lack of height is a bit of a myth... we're not the tallest side around granted, but we're not exactly a team of short people either. St. Kilda felt that they could expose us in this area... after a strong first quarter from them, the ball hit the deck and we torched them for speed. I know that you guys a a lot pacier than the Saints, but I'm not sure that you'd want to be going in with an extra tall or two.

totally agree. this is better tried late in games with he sting out of the game. our forward need to be mobile, continually leading up taking the like of gilbee, morris out of the 50, allowing one on one contests.

I dont think its the ethic thats lacking, its the oxygen.

I honestly think that the Dogs move the ball out of defense as well as any team in the league (inc. Geelong), so defensive pressure in the forward line will be very important.

I think the height thing is overdone as well, but if we can get the dogs to play one on one in our forward line I would think we would be a big show, so long as the ball comes in well (which is certainly been our problem for a long time).

Yes, the Dogs counterattack as fast as anyone especially at the Dome which brings me to the point that we can't afford to have the likes of Pettifer back in attack. From memory I can't recall him chasing many opponents down in the forward line. I think the combination of Edwards, Morton, Jack and Tambling works far better. When they aren't in the contest they are ferocious at the man with the ball which is more than you can say about Pettifer who could do well to spend some time in the VFL to work on his tackling skills or lack thereof.

Neither are the most accountable players

I also think Deledio has lost a little bit of pace. Maybe he is having some groin troubles because I saw him get run down a couple of times against Freo, he never use to get run down

He looks to have added some baulk though, that might have something to do with the fact Plough wanted him as a forward this year which inevitably made him lose a yard in pace.

He bulked up a fair bit over the pre because he was going to be predominantly a forward, reckon he'll lose abit of bulk as the season wears on and gain that extra bit of pace back. I think we can all agree he's certainly more useful to us as a midfielder delivering precisely into the forwardline.
