Why does Div 1 have only 10 teams and Div 2 have 14 teams.
Wouldn't the comp be better served by having 12 teams in each division? In this time of technology and a mouse click away from anything, surely 3 teams could elevate to div 1 (provided that the GF winner finished in the top 3, if not sort it out) and 1 team from Div 1 drop to Div 2. Just seems like an uneven comp. Any clues??? (have emd nfl asking same question, they maybe awaiting/overseeing/watching your responses, if any)

too many ordinary teams in divvy one as it is. If anything need to go the other way and have a third division with maybe 8 in div 1 and the rest can be thrown around to suit with the inclusion of a few other sides as in the efl?.Need to strengthen div1 big time!.:thumbsd:

10 teams means 18 games and everybody plays everybody else twice, go to 12 teams need either to extend the season to 22 rounds or have an uneven draw. The NFL may be looking at a third division next year or next couple of years.

So you are saying that Div 1 in the DFL is more elitist than the AFL where they do not play each other twice? i am not understanding of what your point is! Simply put, 12 teams in both divisions would be a far more equal comp for the DFL.

Sorry I meant nfl, not dfl too many vb's.

Doesn't really matter if you've had too many VBs or not Connie.

Fact is that even the AFL would like to have an even draw instead of the sheet that they deliver that it evens out over time.

Fact is that the only fair way of looking after the elite "A" division in NFL is to have a ten team competition.

I agree - even numbers does not mean even competition - if you look at the last ten years of NFL / DVFL:

Promoted Demoted Demoted Club years in Div 1
1998 Diamond Creek Eltham 1
1999 Lower Plenty Diamond Creek 1
2000 Eltham Lalor A lot
2001 Lalor Eltham 1
2002 Eltham Lalor 1
2003 Hurstbridge Greensborough A lot
2004 Lalor Hurstbridge 1
2005 Diamond Creek Lower Plenty 6
2006 Greensborough Lalor 2
2007 Lalor Epping 17

With a few exceptions the above shows it is hard enough for the div 2 premiers to maintain Div 1 status - if you extended this to another 2 teams from Div 2 you would have an even greater disparity between the top and bottom of div 1 - until there is a case that the top 2 or 3 teams from div 2 would remain competitive in div 1 then I believe it should stay as it is...

Thanks for your interest. We are actually moving into a three division competition as of 2009. Which will mean that Division 1 will have 10 teams, Division 2 will have 8 and Division 3 will have 6 at this stage. It is hoped and envisaged that we will eventually have three divisions with 10 teams in each.

Thanks again for your email and feedback.

we would be better off having divvy 1 - 8 teams, divvy 2 - 8 teams and divvy 3 - 8 teams. That woulld increase the strength of divvy 1.

i would break the divisions up into the following:

divvy 1:

monty, heildelberg, norf, bundy, np, lalor, slime, west preston (last 3 could be in divvy 2)

divvy 2:

eltham, diamond creek, epping, whittlesea, thommo, macleod, lower, watsy (first 3 could be in divvy 1)

divvy 3:

stars, mernda, parkside, hursty, s. morang, resa, panton hill, heid west

they would be 3 pretty even comps. each team would have a pretty good chance of winning a premiership in their comp.

have the same model as current, premier in divvy 2 and 3 goes up a grade and wooden spoon in divvy 1 and 2 goes down a grade.

now there will be some clubs on here that go crazy about being in divvy 2 or 3, but i have taken best snap shot from the current ladder and likely finish at the end of the year.

thoughts??

14 rounds, 21 rounds or 18 rounds play 3 teams twice and 4 teams three times?

cc - what was the actual question that you, or someone posed to king carey that prompted this reply?

Thoughts??? - Yeah, You are an idiot! That's what I think anyway :thumbsu:

Firstly 8 teams would never be a better concept than the current 10 team div 1 and I don't think many NFL teams would even consider such a ludicrous option. ,

Secondly there is no certainty that it would make for stronger competition, because there will always be a side or two that struggles no matter what, unless all teams are on a level playing field.

And by that I mean all teams have would have to have restrictions imposed around how much they can spend on players (A Salary Cap) to make things fairer for all. BTW, I'm not suggesting that a Salary Cap should be introduced, but it would be the only possible way of leveling teams as I see it.

Thirdly, you have sprouted that if NFL was to go to 8 teams, you would take 8 of the current Div 1 sides with the exception of Diamo and Eltham - Why so???

Granted Diamo are struggling a tad at the moment and Eltham haven't quite put it all their early season hardwork on the win column of the ladder, but the season is far from over just yet. Also, Surely the 2nd Divy premier, whoever that may be, deserves a crack at the Div1 also??

I think it is best to leave things just as they are for the moment, but obviously due consideration needs to be given to introduction of a 3rd Divy, but only when there are enough teams to fill a minimum of 10 in Div2 and at least 6, preferable at least 8 for div3.

Shit, Now the more I think of it, why not just have Div1 with 4 teams, Div 2 with 6 teams, Div 3 with 8 teams, and Div 4 with 6. -

____ it why not have only 2 teams in Div 1, 2 in div2, 2 in div3, 2 in div4, 2 in div 5, 2 in div6, 2 in div 7, 2 in div 8, 2 in div 9, 2 in div 10, 2 in div 11, and the residiual in in div 12. (Don't want 13 divisions because that would be bad luck) :D:D:D

if you had of read it correctly i said take the bottom 2 teams at the end of the year and put in divvy 2.

the standard of competition would get better as sides would be playing more evenly matched sides week in week out.

while the restructure is happening (inclusion of divvy 3) the team in divvy 2 that wins the premiership would have to fore go getting into divvy 1 that year. not such a big deal for one year.

you must have been stoned when you wrote the last 2 paragraphs.
