People are saying our midfield needs attention and it does but this draft doesnt seem to have standout mids.

So would it be more wise to go tall, one tall back and one tall forward?

The big boys seem to be of a high level this year maybe we can fix our big man department early than try for runners later in the draft.

In one foul swoop we can replace rocca and wakelin in this draft.

What about this.

8.Tippett.

10. Reid/Reiwoldt.

Discuss.

i dont think we will pass up the opportunity to draft at least 1 of proud, selwood, jetta or even armitage let alone 2 of them. Don't think at all we should draft 2 talls with 8 +10- would rather see 2 of the best available which would most likely be midfielders- the most important issue that needs to be solved at our club. Hope they draft 2 midfield guns of the future but i do believe we need to draft a tall somehere in there at 28 or 44 or even 63.

I would like to get a tall with 10 possibly. but not with both 8 and 10. Also, we would have a small chance of getting tippett with 28. We would be stupid to get him with 8, let alone 10.

Have to go best available, but if the best available at Pick 8 is a tall, then we have to go best available mid at 10.

I'm not as pessimistic in the height department for KPs as most and I think from a defensive perspective, this area can be addressed later on in the draft.

I wouldn't be surprised if we took a ruck early, but I still can't see why we would get fancy with two legitimate hits at two of Selwood, Proud, Collard, Connors, Jetta or Armitage.

The only way I would turn away the opportunity to have a dip at two of those blokes, is if one of them top talls slips into our lap by peculiar circumstances. A Sellar or a Thorpe would be too hard to knock back.

I want Collard and Selwood (or Proud) with our first two picks. We desperately need mids. Our KPP stocks aren't too bad and I would look to bolster them with later picks.

If this draft is as good as people are predicting we should be able to get some reasonable players with our 2nd & 3rd round picks.

Someone from the top tier of players may slide to us at pick 8, we just need to grab them & hope that St Kilda don't take the other bloke that we wanted to get.

No way i would waste a first round pick on Tippett. If Reiwoldt is there at 10 i think we should grab him. With pick 28 i think we should look at one on the Browns or hopefully Reid or Mckenzie are still around but might be a bit tough.

Two mids with 8 and 10. Then a ruck/tall with our next pick.

Anthony Maxwell T Cloke and Rusling have the potential to form a goal to goal line for the future. Getting more talls is less of a priority than midfielders. Admittedly we need rucks but we need midfielders even more, and risking pick 8 or 10 on a ruck is a risk I wouldnt want them to take.

In my opinion that will never cut it as a tall spine. TCloke is the only real tall one there. the rest are around 191 or under. Maxwell, as much as I like him, will never be a strong CHB to tackle the likes of Riewoldt/Pavlich/Brown. TCloke could possibly develop into that position (but i prefer him at CHF in the future) then we would need a proper CHF.

Its Hard to tell if we go for a ruck with our 2nd or 3rd round pick. If Richards is injury free for the year we should be alright with him playing ruck and Fraser up forward. If we draft a ruck this year he will need time to develop as most ruckman do. So this means we could have a decent ruckman in the next couple of years

Has anyone seen tippett play?

Someone posted on bigfooty that he might be the next paul salmon.

Id like to pick at least one key position player with our first two picks.

Is reiwoldt good enough for top ten?

That doesn't make it true... He might be the next Brent Hall too - Way too big a risk to take inside the Top 10.

Fair enough, but I think you'd be very, very silly to not pick the best available when you have high picks.

Going in with any strategy that would eliminate you potentially picking the best players is a bad idea.

He could be, but he'd only be around the mark for #10 - Even then I'd consider guys like Jetta, Armitage, Collard and Hislop at #10, as all are talents of high quality.

Best available player but if it’s close then go with the need which is the midfield. We may or may not lack talls in 3 to 5 years time. If we don’t get 2 young midfielders soon we will have the worst midfield in the comp for 3 years. We nearly have it now. Buckley, Burns and Licuria near the end. Thomas and Pendlebury starting out and bugger all in between. Swan looks the goods but whether he will be elite remains to be seen. Shaw looks promising but whether he’s a midfielder remains to be seen. Holland is handy. Other than that it’s slim pickings and flaws aplenty.

I agree. Midfield is the real worry- we need to strengthen it as much as possible and this year with another 2 picks inside 10 we should go the need for speed. I still think we will take a tall in this draft somewhere and although i want to see the midfield issue to be soughted out asap i still want us to draft best player available.

i think a ruck and the best available mid is the way to go top 2, after that i think you take the best avaliable players.

swan, holland, shaw r and h, thomas, pendles, didak, davies, davis, egan--> will keep us competitive for 5 years after burns, bucks, lica decide to chuck it in.

davies and davis really need to show they can run in the midfield this year.

I think MM loves the way West Coast plays with their damaging midfield. Remembe3r which team pumped thw Lions afew times during their run of 3 flags. Yep WCE.

You can have quality mids and average KPPs and be a success.

Good mids deliver perfectly to any forwards irrespective of forwards talent.

Good mids put alot of pressure of the opposition mids who don't have time to deliver the ball well.

Exactly what the WCE have. Glass, Lynch and Hansen all good players butno better then Rocca, Jimmy and Taz was.

Obviously Taz gone but like we saw in the Port game, give good service to Rusling and he'll mark and kick goals.

We need MIDS!!

Get Selwood and Proud.

I've seen quite a bit of tippet, renouf, petterd & kiel this year, and I made the comment about tippet maybe being nurtured into AFL like paul salmon and play forward initially and then move into the ruck as he gained experienced. Never stated he would be the next salmon, just wanted to clear that up.
The reason I think collingwood maybe interested in someone from QLD is you see the recruiting people there at quite a few games, also see swans at the games too. I think to travel to QLD on nearly a weekly basis to watch these QLD guys suggests maybe there is someone they like for first round.
My personal opinion is Collingwood now with two first round picks will go for a midfield & tall.
