Say it is true (and Melbourne decide to go for a tall in Wright or Lever also), do either of Laverde or Pickett have a point of difference over Brayshaw or Petracca that could prompt GWS to pick one of the former? Effectively letting one of the latter slide to us at pick 5?

Wishful thinking I guess seeing as GWS have picks after us also, they know they can pick up Brayshaw/Petracca at 4 and still have a crack at one of Pickett or Laverde at 6. From what I gather Melbourne are super keen on Brayshaw (source is BF though) so a draft like this would be mesmerising:

1. St.Kilda - McCartin
2. Melbourne - Brayshaw
3. Melbourne - Wright/Lever
4. GWS - Pickett/Laverde
5. Collingwood - Petracca

I'll stop giving myself false hope now.

GWS will still go one of Petracca or Brayshaw. The know if they do they'll still get one of Pickett or Laverde.

There is no reason they wont just take Petracca and Brayshaw.

Dawes, Fitzpatrick 3rd tall fwd/ruck, Hogan now in year 3 and should be ready to start showing something.

There defense though is very light on but you can get solid KPD later in drafts.

They have McDonald, Frost, Dunn and Garland as a third tall.

Looking at his highlights again that you provided, you have changed my opinion. I would be happy with DeGoey at our club. I would just love to have Pickett for his pace and flare.

Pickett is the Guy I want the Most but looks like he is off the GWS at Pick 4.

Watching De Goey there is a bit of Beams about him. With those long Goals off 1 step and his Attack on the Ball

I'm not one for all of these high light videos for the players.
If you made one of me, at 30 years old, it would match any of the potential draftees this year.
I was sensational for at least a 4 minute video.
My Rover Jon Sharp, would have been a top 10-15 pick if his back problems didn't catch up with him.
That is no doubt at all.

Disclaimer: I might have had a beer or two before typing this. But you get my drift.

That you can't hold your beer? :p

To me De Goey and Laverde are real close in terms of talent and potential. I think what sways Collingwood in picking De Goey is that he is mates with Darcy Moore
I believe it may be De Goey wins more of his own ball and has played as a centre square mid. Laverde appears quicker, bigger and a better kick with slightly higher possession numbers but more a winger with uncontested possessions. De Goey did miss the pre-season though due to injury, perhaps effecting his tank and therefore possession numbers. Some of De Goeys highlights, showing him roving perfectly off Peter Wright in the champs is poetry in motion.

Against the odds but still possible.

20/80 he is there.

MAGPIE2013 there is a vew he hasnt been interviewed by as many clubs as you think and that he has a couple of issues holding his chances back a bit. I would put him more at 50:50 to be there. My understanding is WCE are confident he might be there at 32.

I would and have in my final mock.

I think more specifically the issue a few clubs have is his projected height. He is still growing and there is a view he maybe going to get to KP height.

Another 2-3 inches at his age is nothing to sneeze at!

With his hands and ability to win the footy I wouldn't say no as a KPP down the track either (so long as the projected growth spurt doesn't ruin his co-ordination).

if the saints indeed go for mcartin at 1. It will be very interesting to see how melbourne approaches 2 and 3. Will they really overload on midfield given that they need key position players. They could very well pull the trigger on lever at 3 with brayshaw or petraca at 2. The dees do need a key position defender given that frawley left via free agency

They need midfielders just as much as key forwards.

I think one of the interesting things is Richardson's recognition that in light of the Buddy/Boyd deals they will have to pay through the nose to attract a key forward to their club from another club.

Might be enough to sway them to McCartin.

Or might just mean they look the lesser rated guys like McKenzie.

Shows how trading has changed the landscape for drafting.

It also shows that despite popular opinion Cloke took a pay cut to stay and should be treated with a bit more respect.

From what I hear at the Melbourne board the midfield is their biggest weakness.

Good lawd. Makes Jarrod Pickett look like Robbie Warnock

http://www.afl.com.au/video/2014-09-10/jason-castagna-highlights

Castagna can run and is a good running back flanker. Something like a Sinclair equivalent in this draft. Can really take on the game and break the lines but footskills below average.

Blakely to group to KP height eh? He has consistently well over the years.
1/04/12 he was 183.5cm
1/03/13 he was 184cm
1/04/14 he was 186.5cm
and more recently at the national combine he was 188.7cm

So that's good growth and increased growth in recent times which I really like and does suggest he could grow another few cm.

I see that growth as a real advantage for Blakely. That's right smack bang in the Pendlebury region.

I'm surprised clubs see extra height as a barrier. I see it as a significant advantage and of great benefit to his game. He is already I'd argue the most dominant pure on-baller in this draft so that extra height and then probably eventually further physical growth and strength he gains will only further increase his advantage by position in terms of the inside grunt work.

Hearing the thought that as an example Blakely grows to Mundy height at 192cm, that's terrific and only makes me want him on my team more.

Surely if Blakely is still available at 30 we pull the trigger?

Whether we pull the trigger is unknown. We are rumoured to like Blakely but whether we like him more than the other options there if he does make it to pick 30 is the question.

I'd strongly advocate the selection of Blakely if there at 30. I think he has a genuine shot at being the best or if not then certainly one of the best in this draft.

If McCartin goes to Saints at 1 that makes Melbourne's decision very easy. I imagine the top 2 on their draftboard are Petracca and Brayshaw in some order. Can't see them passing on either with their needs primarily midfield and more specifically outside which they can probably fill easily enough later in the draft or look to fill next year when the depth of outside types is high.

I have him at 30 to us and I wont see it as issue but thats the mail. Look up his brothers height and he had same trajectory.
