I know it's somewhat early to start a thread like this, but looking at our list I was wondering what everyone thinks our draft/trade priorities be when coming towards that time? Or what players we could use as trade bait.

We'll know more when we hear who/if we are de-listing anyone, or who has requested a trade.

Right now we know we have 3 spots. Perris will get one, if we can't rookie him (which is the real reason Colless was so annoyed i suspect... we'll get him anyway, but we effectively lose a list spot if we have to put him on the senior list).

In the draft in my opinion our needs are (in order):
A creative small forward.
A running rebounding defender.
A KPD
An inside mid (a big one... Kennedy, Zeibell, etc...).

Yes, the Mumford and White situation in particular will determine our trading. We could potentially lose both, but even if it is only Mumford that goes we will definitely be on the lookout for a ready-to-go ruckman as a clear priority number one. If Mumford stays then the number one trade priority for me would be a key position defender in around the 23-25 year old age bracket. Following that someone to slot into the Shaw/Mattner position. You can never have too many good midfielders, so that is always a priority of sorts.

I don't really see us in the trade market for a small forward. I think the forward line listing above are a little off - Membrey and McGlynn are the only two players I would really call small/medium forwards, and that is probably enough for our squad considering the way we play. Rohan, Lamb and Cunningham are all midfielders and discounting the talls our forward lines this season has more or less consisted of midfielders rotating through.

When it comes to drafting I would really just prefer we took the best available player regardless of their position. A true KPD would probably be a good idea, and then midfielders, midfielders midfielders.

Small forward : dayle garlett ( draft)
Key defender: pears, Mitch brown( Geelong), Adams ( gws) Joel Tippett ( draft)
Classy player that can play fwd, mid and def : yarran

Those are the players that I think could help fill some areas in the team

I doubt garlett will get picked up. Too much of a liability apparently

Wasn't there images doing the rounds last year of him smoking and drinking? Unless he has really cleaned up his act then i'd say you're spot on.

As for our needs. We need a KPD, not convinced Johnson could fill in as one. LRT and Richards are 30+ and it's scary to think of Grundy as our best KPD, gives me nightmares.

Small forward. I like McGlynn, but we really, really need a goal sneak that thrives on being front and square of a contest waiting on spillages. Might be just me, but i did see some potential in Parker over the last month or so. His goal from the boundry against Carlton was outstanding.

I think we'll see over the next year or 2 how valuable Rohan is to our club because i reckon he could fill a couple of roles to a high standard once he gets going.

I think some players we should look at:
- Longer "If/When Mumford Goes" (Trade)
- Toby Nankervis (Tasmania, u18 All Australian Ruckman, Draft)
- Garlett (In the draft)
- J.Tippett (In the Draft)
- T.Pears (Trade)
- D.Martin (Trade)
- Loosing Mumford, Mattner, Bolton, Morton, (Potentially White) would free up some cash, maybe not as much as other clubs are offering but his old man lives in sydney and we are more desirable then GWS....Martin playing off the half forward line, occasional midfield would have a massive impact.
- H.Shaw (Trade)
If he is cheap. p.s. Mumford > Shaw
If I could only choose three from this list:
T.Pears, D.Martin, T.Nankervis

What have you heard? Is it something that hasn't been reported?
Can't remember the exact details but it was along the lines of him being so messed up that he was unable to be woken up. This all happened since last years draft too, meaning he hasn't learnt his lesson.

Draft
Pick 14 Darcy Gardiner or Cameron Mcarthy
Pick 19 Rory Lobb (potentially Mumford comp) Trent Dumont
Pick 27 Billy Hartung, Jay Kennedy Harris, Garlett (White comp if he goes to the pies)
Pick 31 trade for Shaun Hampson
Pick 67 Lloyd Perris

Thats some serious talent coming into the club. Id also like to see the club have a dip at Hampson. He shows glimpses he can be a jet but then makes some appalling errors. His kicking in front of goal is terrible. If he can iron these things out he could be a steal.

Hampson can take a lot of contested marks I'd play him as a genuine ruckman not a full forward, I watched Hampson against Geelong last year he rucked for probably 20-30% of the game and was jumping all over them
Do you think we need a ready made key defender this year or wait for Reid or Frawley as free agents the year after? We do have Johnson coming back Lockyer and Richards should play a few games.

Hampson's fairly underrated. As a no#1 ruckman he'd be an absolute jet. Unfortunately his behind Kreuzer and Warnock at Carlton. Having said that I would sooner trade out Warnock than Hampson, just because Hampson provides more flexibility. Also we would get a lot less than what we paid for......

Edit: injuries haven't helped either.....

Don't think we need to pick up another outside midfielder yes it would be nice to pick up Martin or draft Gartlett but I would be happy to get some game time into the likes of Cunningham, Lamb and Jack next year.

If we lose Mumford I wouldn't be against going at Lycett from West Coast, he would easily be worth our second round pick.

Depends what you want really, Martin is on a complete other level to someone like Jed Lamb. As an 18 year old in his first season Martin put up performances miles ahead of Lamb this year, saying we don't need him because we have players already is untrue.

I am not saying that Lamb or anyone on our list is better than Martin, I would love to pick up Martin I won't lie, but I don't think we would be able to please Richmond with a trade... Richmond would want a top 5 pick for him and no one we would be willing to give up (Including Mumford) would be worth that.

I think there is, definitely.

I'd be leaning towards keeping him. Personally, he's been slow to develop but I liked what I saw this year. Although, if a club like Melbourne or North Melbourne is prepared to offer up something relatively valuable, the Swans might have to bite on that.

If it's just a simple second or third rounder, I wouldn't pull the trigger on that. Let him develop and see what he can become, think his composure and skill could be pretty valuable in years to come.

Jed Lamb would be close to the most overrated player in the AFL. He is a 3rd year midfielder averaging 10 disposals. Lets keep the hype under control.

Several games he played though he was sub, not to mention he struggled with a few injuries during his first two years at the club.

The kid has some poise can use the ball rather well and puts in a fair bit of effort.

I would much rather keep him on our list than trade him off, I can see him leaving the club though due to the fact he may not get a heap of game time if we have a full side to select from.

He's actually a half forward. This was his first season free of injury, and a raw stat like average disposals when he was the sub numerous times isn't necessarily a worthy reflection of performance. I'll be the first to admit he's been disappointing. But you don't just give up on a first round pick based on his first 12 games at AFL level. His disposal and composure has impressed me this year, as well as his abilities around goal. With Morton retiring and McGlynn going downhill fast, he could be our answer as a small forward.

As I said, if we can get overs for him I'd be willing to part ways but there's no sense trading him just for the sake of it.
