CRUISING...

images

PORT ADELAIDE - Victory at last! Fourth time was the charm for the Power, who finally have an away win this season. Port decided the game early, which allowed the team to just cruise around for the rest of the game. When needed (Carlton reduced the difference to fewer than 2 goals three times; twice in the last quarter), the team seemed to just reignite and do enough to put the game away again. It was a mature performance from a side that has looked immature this season.

On offense, while Buzza and Dixon struggled, Rozee was the difference down forward kicking a perfect 4.0. Carlton kept moving the pieces deep back (Betts, Philp, and Kreuzer were all used there), with mixed results. When the Blues made their last charge seeking a comeback, Westhoff went forward and ended their hopes for good. At half forward, SPP, Bergman, and Bonner (which was not the biggest surprise of the afternoon) did well.

In the middle, Duursma was the star of the day with 30 disposals, 9 marks, 4 tackles, and 14 points of his own. Considering that Amon and Ladhams had a hard time against Walsh and Cripps, Duursma’s performance was vital for Port’s victory. Port had another hero, though: Motlop. Playing him in the ruck, when Lycett went out injured early in the first quarter, that was Cadaver 's greatest move. Who would have thought that? Still, it worked beautifully! It helped Boak and Wines having solid games against Carlton's best.

At back, Williams, Houston, and Watts were both a wall and a trebuchet. As an unit, they had 14 marks and 37 disposals (19 kicks) combined. Most of Carlton’s successful attacks avoided them. Their effort was handy, since Grundy, Pasini, and Garner didn’t play well. Still, the Blues’s trio of targets couldn’t score more than a weak 4.2:26 out of 6 disposals.

Carlton has now the worst record of the league and moves on to play against Sydney (8th) at home. Port, on the other hand, has moved up on the ladder, is now 12th, and hosts the Eagles (7th) next week.

Round 9: v. West Coast

Match Preview

A Clash of Inconsistencies

Loss. Win. Loss. Win… It has been one of those seasons. Neither Joy nor sorrow has been able to last for long; a game of Chutes and Ladders!

After 8 rounds, two points and five positions separate the Eagles from the Power on the ladder. Both teams have lost half of their games; only have one win away; and have been just slightly better than the opposition at home. With both teams coming from wins, what is going to happen next?

PORT ADELAIDE – Port has finally won an away match, after three straight losses. A dominant star was enough to put the rest of the game on cruise control. Any time the Blues tried to come closer, the Power would turn the heat back up and keep Carlton at bay. Duursma has its best game of the season on the fast deck at Marvel. While Buzza and Dixon struggled, Rozee was the difference down forward kicking a perfect 4.0. Motlop in the ruck, when Lycett went out injured was Cadaver's greatest surprise. It worked beautifully! Will he try it again against the Eagles?

WEST COAST – The wind made it an one-way game in Perth. The Eagles managed to adjust better for the conditions. West Coast was dominant in quarters fist and third, while the Dogs fought back in the even quarters. However, despite the Bulldogs best efforts, especially from English and Naughton, the Eagles never trailed. Kelly did it all for the West Australians, and Kennedy, Cripps, and Naitanui made sure his game wouldn’t be wasted, scoring 10.1:61 combined; despite the wind. Defense, however, allowed the opposing team to score more than 100 points for the sixth time this season. Against Port, this could be lethal.

Prediction: West Coast, by 1. (after siren)

Any suggestions?

You are Port's Qooty players. Can you add some ideas, suggestions, commentaries?

Qooty seems to be a harsh game for defenders. So far, they hardly play well any game.

Still, since we cannot let bad performances to go unpunished, it has been a revolving door at the back. This week I don't think it should be much different.

Hence, these would be my suggestions for changes:

If not this, what should Port do, then?

Well, I actually find it's better to punish the simmer rather than the team.
So, I like your changes, but make sure every pocket, flank and wing switches sides.
