My only question is that why would you not tell your WHOLE team
It doesn't have to just be specific people that you missed out on, it should be team-wide knowledge before it's the captain of another teams knowledge. You don't even have to tell them in the inception stages, you can just tell them when you've got an idea for the rebrand, and if people have issues with it (Which people clearly do) you take on board the feedback.
