I agree with this for sure. Let Hocking do it for the next 2, hopefully 3yrs, but it is probably an area for us to keep an eye on.

Thoughts on trying Wallis in this role?

Is one of the young blokes worth teaching that kind of role for sure. Holmes from the VFL side is another who may be able to make it one of his tools to work with.

Could do, have not seen a lot of him myself.
Well built inside mid (184cm 82kg) with a massive tank. Very much an accumulator, but is also defensively orientated with his strong tackling a highlight. His disposal isn't great, but for a 21 year old available for next to nothing there obviously has to be some flaws in his game.

Would be the type you would look at. As far as disposal goes if he is not going to be the go to man then he only has to work on short to medium kicking and good hands. As long as you can get reasonable at kicking 35 meters you can get by.

Doubt we'd get any compo for Dempsey mate, he's first in line for delisting IMO, followed by McKernan.

Also reckon we keep Edwards but on the rookie list, he's got too much talent to throw away just yet.

Steele is worth a late 1st rounder on his own.

Lewis Taylor and/or Josh Greene are blokes we need to be pursuing to fill voids. Taylor in particular has got a ceiling that he's only scratched at Brisbane & could form a great wing partnership with Colyer. Greene has the potential to be one of the better small fwds in comp, but just needs faith & continuity.

Greene??? No way, Jose.
Gotta love the mis-spelling from people don't ya?!

It's Green mate not Greene. Could confuse some poor people who think you mean Toby Greene (who wouldn't go anywhere given the season he's had for GWS). We do need more pace on the outside, key forward is the more pressing issue though Daniher needs someone next to him who can kick straight first.

There would be 17 clubs after him if he was worth a pick in the 30's at best.
Disagree big time there, has done more than Laverde has, would you consider Laverde worth a pick in the 30s?
He's a midfielder who has played less than 20 games. He averages less than 20 disposals, and is currently a fringe player in his side. You don't sell the farm for someone like that. In terms of an open market, of course Laverde is worth that. He's a supreme talent, but isn't good enough yet to justify anything higher. Is Steele as good as Jack Redden, Lachie Henderson, Harley Bennell? No. Nowhere near that.

What do young fringe 22 players generally go for? Jed Anderson went for the points equivalent of pick 40. Jarrad Jansen and Josh Walker are going for pick 38. Nathan Freeman went for essentially a mid-second round pick, that's from St. Kilda so you have to permit for their trade table idiocy. Mitch Hallahan went for 2 picks in the 40's. Shane Biggs went for a small pick upgrade in the 30's. Viv Michie went for a pick in the 50's. Aylett and Edwards went for a pick in the 40's. Sam Docherty went for a pick in the 30's. Elliott Yeo a pick in the late 20's. Polec for the equivalent of a pick in the late 30's.

There is overwhelming evidence that young fringe midfielders get traded in the 30+ range, other than Yeo.

I knew who he meant, but had no idea how to spell it either. Still DO NOT WANT.

If he was in this years draft I'd rate him top 5, is unlucky to be in a team full of gun youngsters and if he played for us he would be best 22 this year. If he played for us and another club offered a pick in the 30s we would laugh at them.

Identical stats to Josh Caddy and he fetched a late first rounder. JOR fetched a late 1st rounder as well. Lions had to salvage whatever they could for Doch,Yeo and Polec.

Well he doesn't. He's a fringe midfielder. No matter how good they "could" be, smart recruitment panels do not give up late first round picks for players like Steele when you can get them for much less.

Caddy played every game the year he was traded. Hardly a fringe midfielder.

Spelling schmelling...who cares.

Who said we can't draft for a KPP player too?
