Offer him 300-350, That's double what the crows are offering, He picks us we get it done with the Hibberd to dees move.

Out Pig, In Lyons.

The Hibbo pick will end up 30ish after compo, I much rather Lyons.

You could easily get Lyons via the PSD pick 1 ie costless in terms of trading. You would just need to make him an offer that he is happy with, and promise to use the PSD #1 pick on him. Having Scott Lucas as his manager probably doesn't hurt either.
By the way, his brother Corey is rated the better of the two, according to his own family, I am told. Could be a handy pick up with pick 38 if we use it.

Wouldn't an informal agreement between clubs to make bids on unwanted players be draft tampering?

Punishment for Tippett's 3rd party payments from Adelaide was totally justified, but I still don't know why promising to trade him to the club of his choice was draft tampering? This arrangement seems almost de rigueur these days.

edit:

I would expect it to be completely OK to tell selected personal your intended selection or bid intention though.

Our dealings with the suns won't get that far though. It's essentially a blackmail tactic to extract blood from a stone, and if it does get that far it won't be an informal bid on an unwanted player, it will be a genuine bid on a wanted player, it's just that everyone including them knows they'll match so it's doesn't mean anything apart from making them pay full value, hence why it'll likely not get that far and we'll do a deal with the suns.

So I hear we want a balanced inside/outside mid who can get their own ball but also do damage on the outside/forward of center. Apparently we have the cash to do this? Tom Rockliff says "Hi".

I don't know if Rockliff could be seriously on the way out or not, but if he is surely we have to look at him.

I know there's a lot of Rockliff haters out there but I'm not one of them. He gets his own footy out of the middle and can dish it out. He lathers on the pressure and tackles. He goes forward and kicks goals. He carries his team despite
Yes his team still loses even when he is starring but that doesn't mean he's no good - it means Brisbane as a side are no good. Just look at Ablett in 2011/12/13 at GC before he got injured. He was dominating still but that doesn't mean he could get a crap team over the line by himself. And no I'm not saying he's Ablett but he's not too shabby!

I wouldn't want to trade pick 1 straight up for him obviously but if we could do 1 for 5/7 I wouldn't mind giving up say pick 7 for him. He's a gun.
No thanks on Rocky - we've got no vacancies in the finger pointing leadership slot, check back in a couple of years when Gods as retired

McLuggage comfortable with likely No 1 title
POSSIBLE No.1 draft pick Hugh McCluggage admits he is still pinching himself at the prospect of being the highest-selected player in this year's NAB AFL Draft.

The smooth-moving midfielder was one of the most consistent performers at under-age level across the season, winning the TAC Cup's Morrish Medal, Vic Country's MVP award and being named an Under-18 All Australian after a stellar national carnival.

McCluggage also recently starred in the Under-18 All Stars match, booting four goals and racking up 17 classy touches.

"It's a bit of a shock and it's happened really quickly," McCluggage said when fronting the media at the NAB AFL Draft Combine at Etihad Stadium on Friday.

"At the start of the year I was just hoping to play consistent footy for North Ballarat and then I was lucky enough to get into the Vic (Country) side… so I just tried to play as well as I could for every team that I played for."

McCluggage's consistency across the season, in particular a blazing end to the year, has allowed him to set himself apart from many of his contemporaries.

The South Warrnambool product averaged 29 disposals and kicked 23 goals in the home and away season for North Ballarat.

He is clean with the footy in hand, takes the game on at regular intervals and has an innate ability to hit the scoreboard from the midfield.

Brisbane Lions list manager Peter Schwab said he would be ecstatic if McCluggage were to slip through to the club's pick (No.2 overall) in the draft.

"He's a talented player. He can play in the midfield, can go forward and kick goals and is a nicely balanced player," Schwab said of McCluggage.

"He just knows how to play. The first thing you look at, with any game of football, is what’s the talent (level)? He’s a high-end talent. He certainly possesses that aspect."

Another player to possess similar traits in being able to play forward and midfield is the dynamic Ben Ainsworth.

Ainsworth spent much of the first half of the season playing up forward for the Gippsland Power in the TAC Cup and for Vic Country in the National Championships.

But the 179cm draft prospect eventually graduated into the midfield as the season went on, and he said AFL clubs will be looking for him to play both roles when he ends up on an AFL list next season.

"I've spoken about this with a few AFL clubs and it's finding that 50-50 balance," Ainsworth said.

"You can't just be a one-position player at AFL level now, so it's about being a utility."

A mid-year suspension, which saw him serve a four-game ban, and wrist and knee injuries limited his impact at the start of the season, but Ainsworth said he felt he was able to find his feet in the back half of the year.

Gold Coast academy prospect Jack Bowes has not yet had an indication from the Suns about whether they will select him under the academy bidding system, but does not mind where he winds up.

Opposition clubs will have their chance to bid on Bowes – possibly inside the top five picks in the draft – to force Gold Coast to match the bid for the high-quality midfield prospect.

"That's part of the AFL now. Looking at a few of the Academy boys that got picked up last year, I think they handled it well and I'm sure I'll be able to handle it fairly well this year."

Want.

Just get him Jackets don't give the Lions a chance.

I see Carlton have show interest in Jay Schulz.
Should we have a look at him as well? Come in for one season to help out our forward line?
I know he is 31 and body a bit shaky but still capable of kicking 30+goals in a season. Very reliable accurate kick.
If Carlton don't offer him a spot on their playing list we should offer him a goalkicking coach role..

Nope.

I rate Lyons, would love to get him through the PSD if possible. If an offer of 300-350k is actually double what Adelaide are offering I think it'd be lunacy not to make overtures to him.

Very happy to hear Simpkin's a mad Ess supporter too.. you never know what can happen in the draft with kids who are especially keen to get to one particular club..

He could do what Wingard did and tell the other clubs he's not interested so he falls until pick 20. Could be a risk but if he can confirm EFC want him it might be a worth doing.

I wouldn't want him if he did.

We need players that are professionals. Not someone that would attempt that sort of amateur crap.

Wingard plays like a bloody flog too - is only effective when Port Adelaide are. Contrast that with someone like Zach Merrett...

If what don patch sword said is true and he was on track to be a top 10 draftee if not for injury, I'd absolutely love to nab him at 20 as well as potentially 2 other top 10s or pick 1. What a draft!

With his injury a couple of months ago we'll see him slide regardless.

Like him as a player, don't like him as a fit.

I know it'd probably leave him in a different boat but if he was a key position player or more of an outside runner or a genuine small forward then I'd suspect we'd nibble but as it stands now I don't see where he fits in.
