EPL Clubs Falling Behind Elite

You have to backtrack to Torres as the last star Chelsea have bought from the Premier League (I'm not sure if Remy and Begovic count).

Stones might be the next though.

Stones isn't currently a star. He may develop into one with you, but nowhere near the same league as the Torres transfer.

Barcelona aside, Chelsea have been as good as any in Europe over the past decade.

Then you have United who have performed pretty well up until the last couple of years. But they'll be back fighting this year. Arsenal have always been there or thereabouts. City will come good, no question about that.

Absolutely overrated this is, IMO.

In the last 15 years Liverpool, Arsenal, Chelsea and Man United have all played in the CL Final.

In the last 15 years Bayern, Dortmund, Bayer Leverkusen have all played in the CL Final.

In the last 15 years Barcelona, Valencia, Al Madrid, Real Madrid have all played in the CL Final.

In the last 15 years AC Milan, Juventus, Inter Milan have all all played in the CL Final.

From 2004-5 to 2011-12 English teams played in 7 of the 8 finals.

An English team hasn't made the final in a whopping 3 seasons

Fun fact. 42% of our 28 champions league games since we got back into the comp have been against either Real Madrid, Bayern Munich or Barcelona.

We've also come up against Dortmund when they made the final, Napoli when they were good and Roma last season.

yea city have been extremely unlucky with the draw as of late. copped 2 hard groups then meeting barca twice in r16

You have had some difficult opponents - but you are going to have to beat them eventually if you want to win the tournament. There is no "easy" way to win it.

I'd expect that percentage will drop dramatically in the coming years.

There may be no easy way to win it (debateable), but theres easier ways to get past R16 than beating Bayern Munich in a mini league to avoid playing Barcelona.

Doesn't excuse the fact you are s**t in the CL.

Which is why I prefer watching the underdogs in England and watching the other European leagues.

I don't have anything against individual supporters of the Sky 3 (United/City/Chelsea), it is just that they win games by weakening their opponents when buying their best players, some of whom sit on the bench. This also applies for Bayern, Real and Barca.

It is not even the clubs' fault, it is UEFA's fault for permitting it.

"Champions" League where a team that is not a Champion of a league can become European Champions is a farce.
The European cup only became the Champions league and expanded as the top clubs of Europe had threatened to break away if it wasn't changed

All would be solved if we made it. 1 appearance, 1 QF, knocked out both Milans (before they were completely crap) along the way

Average of 9 points in the groups is pretty good. How many did Liverpool manage last season against the might of Basel and Ludogorets?

Can't remember but Liverpool certainly didn't suffer the embarrassment of finishing last in their group.
Luckily we had a chance to redeem ourselves.

As do you, albeit in a different competition, channel and night.

With the resources you have spent your performance in the CL is embarrassing. Not sure why you can't accept that.
Because I don't get embarrassed if my football team doesnt win a game. Pissed off, disappointed yes. But embarrassed? I'll leave that for drama queens.

You could say the same about your team and not even making the round robin stage, you guys spend as much as anyone but cant even make top 4.

We've won it 5 times and we dominated it from 05-09. We've got runs on the board unlike City.

Besides we sell to but. City just stockpile players. And their wage bill is about 70m pounds more than ours.
