From Etihad Stadium News

The traditional favourite food of the footy fan, Four ‘n Twenty pies will retail at Etihad Stadium games on a Sunday for just $3 – it’ll be the cheapest price for a pie at any of Australia’s AFL venues.

As previously announced, children under the age of 15 will be permitted to all Sunday AFL games free of charge and Etihad Stadium is also delighted to announce that the traditional ‘kick-to-kick’ at the end of Sunday games will be trialled during April and May fixtures.

In other wins for the fan:
  • Regular chips will sell at all AFL matches at Etihad Stadium from a starting point of $4
  • Free popcorn will be distributed at half time to kids at Sunday games
  • Kids’ meal deals will exist at all games – a snack pack of hot chips, a cheese burger and a 350ml Mount Franklin will retail for $8. Each pack will contain a small gift
  • A pot of beer will retail at $5 at all games
  • The venue will install a total of 10 water fountains, providing chilled, continuous water, across all three levels of Etihad Stadium, enabling water to be accessed free of charge at any time throughout a game (some additional partnerships in relation to this program will be announced in the days ahead)
For the entire 2015 Toyota AFL Premiership season, it has also been determined that commercially and domestically prepared food and drinks (other than alcohol and glass ware) will be permitted into the venue.

It is amazing how everyone cries poor until a bit of competition comes along.

Poor Foxtel, struggling to make ends meet, Netflix comes around... we will halve our prices. You campaigners.

The cynical will say Gill is sucking up to the fans: cheap food and drink (how did he do it?), kick to kick after the siren, better time slots (no Sunday nights). But what does it serve him to 'suck up to the fans'? Demitriou never did any of this and he kept his job for a decade. We have to give the guy credit, he listened to the fans and acted on it. The other good thing that I've noticed is the MRP is 1000% better this year. A random bump that got someone high by accident could see you out for 2 or 3 weeks last year if you had a bad record. Now its just a fine.

Despite all this fans will still find things to whinge about, that's the nature of modern Aussies. But for now lets give credit to the guy. "The year of the fan" isn't just marketing, it actually has substance to it.

Only aussies could complain about the fact that the sport is finally doing what the fans want!

Seriously though, well done to Gill. Seems like he actually wants to make the game more enjoyable for fans. Now if they can do away with all that noisy advertising/atmosphere s**t at quarter time and half time I'll be really impressed!

Does anyone know if you are allowed to take a thermos with some frankfurters into etihad?

also maybe a few hot dog buns, some tomato sauce and maybe some margarine??

Secondary announcement: "Franklins No Frills" wins food and beverage contract at Etihad Stadium commencing immediately.

Noooooo

Franklins black and gold frozen pies suck arse :(

Its interesting that the AFL will be part of this press conference, where it wasnt at the MCG one.

MCC was behind cheaper food wasn't it, rather than AFL?

Gil is doing all he can to get more people through the gate in Melbourne including free entry & cheaper food prices - why? Crowds dropped off last year, NOT because he listened to the fans, because there is a problem with crowds. IF he was worried about the fans, he'd be acting Australia wide, he's not, because that is not where the problem is. There is a problem in Melbourne he's trying to fix, not Geelong, not Canberra, not the Gold Coast ...

Yep Augustine, you've bought the spin hook, line & sinker. You're OK, stuff the rest of the fans, because its not about the fans.

Or could it be because in WA (especially) and SA, moves like this are out of his control?
Remember how you keep telling us how WAFC is in control in WA??

NSW/QLD already get pretty sweet deals to 'encourage growth', so that only leaves Vic.

The AFL has real bargaining power in Victoria sheer number of teams and crowds see to that. It has almost none everywhere else.

Also, they have capacity at the grounds. WA for example has no reason to reduce prices of food, as they don't need to encourage more people to come to the games.

People in SA and WA bitch saying "oh you weak Victorians, we'll go no matter what". Yeah that's admirable and all, but why would they bother doing things like upgrading the facilities or reducing the food/drink costs? There's no reason to because they're basically mindless sheep who'll go no matter what.
