Take a step back people... new coach, new game plan... we cant expect things to gel straight away, sure the entire team was down today but i think we are heading in the right direction. Sydney at the SCG is never an easy game ( although it should be by now as we always seem to be playing them there  ) , we came back after half time with alot more force and fight and almost snatched the win. All is good, im sure its a minor hiccup and we will learn from it.

Seemed to gel last week? Who gives a shit that we seem to always be playing Sydney at SCG. Pretty sure last time they played us at Subi, they beat us anyway.

We've been learning from minor hiccups for quite a few years now.

This wasn't so much a hiccup, as a total failure to prepare for an opponent, a failure to remedy strategies that weren't working, and a failure to select the right players (Silver should have played).

This. It isn't where we play, it is how we play that should matter.

Attitude, agression, application and a kick a$$ commitment are all independent of venue.

I agree, everyone is overreacting wayy too much. At the end of the day, we lost by 13 points. Thank god where not Melbourne. I am just happy we managed to almost dig ourselves out of a bottomless pit. But for some reason our fans think just coz we have Ross Lyon we are gonna win every single bloody game, footy doesn't work like that guys.

I don't mind a loss. It's the manner of the loss. That was one of the most inept displays I've ever seen from a Freo team and that's saying something. Players were soft, fumbly and appeared almost panic stricken at times.
I don't imagine Ross Lyon is saying settle down it's alright. I bet he's roasting arse, at least I hope he is.
Good comeback though.

Yup this, well said.

I don't agree.
If we lost in a shit manner then we would have let them roll us by over 100 points and not give a yelp in the second half. Instead we did our best to turn around the pitiful first half performance which was very disappointing. Therefore in my opinion I am happy with the manner in which we fought out the game. But I am not happy with the loss.

I give a shit, we always play them at that dinner plate size excuse of a footy oval, i reckon we've played them at Subi once in 3 or four years, its pathetic. Sydney at the SCG are always hard to beat.

The fumbling and lack of composure in the first half was ridiculous.

Once again it seemed we got comfortable after all the good press, thought everything would just happen for us, and then shat ourselves when Sydney hit us as hard as they did (credit to them, their tackling pressure was incredible in that first half).

Really heartened by the fightback though, after that start we would have lost that game by 70 points last year. I've got total confidence Lyon will eventually breed this typical Freo cycle of win-complacency-loss out of the club.

3rd quater, they took the foot off the pedal,

If you are happy with that overall performance, please don't tell the players

We were utter, utter garbage.

I am sick of losing, take your happy opinion and smack some balls into MJ please.

You took my entire post out of complete context. I never said I was happy with losing, in fact I said I was not happy with it and extremely disappointed by the pitiful first half. The only point I was making was that I think the manner in which we fought out the second half was very encouraging. Don't you dare put words in my mouth.

I don't mind the loss. Obviously disappointed but we fought back and if Mzungu had have been given the free in the square, it could have been a different result. This is the kind of year we're going to have and if we can continue to fight it out, we're going forward. Next game.

I think we deserved that loss - and the manner of it, especially the (lack of) clean skills in the first half is disappointing. If we are aiming to be the best we can't afford to have games like that.

Having said all that - I'm not over-reacting to the loss because the team is a work in progress - it'll take time to get things together consistently. The key for me is how we respond to these losses in making sure we don't make the same mistake twice - and *that* is what should set Ross apart.

Last season we managed to string together a few insipid performances - for me - it's a pass mark if we bounce back, smash the Lions next week, and then take it up to the Saints without the same team-brainfade.

I think running out of gas had a bit to do with it. We finished strong all per-season and likewise rounds one and two. We may not have all the structures drilled in yet but the boys are fit and we are building pressure on the squad through strong WAFL performances. It will take more than Walters being dropped in the pre before everyone is putting it all on the line week in week out. We are building a culture and tearing down bad habits simultaneously. Simmer down bitches.

That 2nd quarter *shudders*.
Skills were pathetic but that isn't the first time that has happened :/.

Worst part about the loss was we could've played at par performance and won and instead we dished out a complete and crap performance and lost by only 13.

We had no luck in the other quarters though. Sydney were drilling them from everywhere and the boys in white were making up for razor last year. We didn't deserve to win though at any stage.

Losing always sucks, 1 point, 13 points, 100, it's all bad. I have no doubt we'll learn from this and when we get Barlow and Mundy back playing full games we'll be a lot better.

You were good enough to beat them there last year

It's like this every single time after a loss, or don't play 4 quarters of orgasmic football.

Best thing to do is no read the ventthreads and stay away for 3-4 days while the emo kids calm down.

Take a step back people... new jumper, new coach...same old dockers.

To be fair would the old dockers ever come back to a position of beig able to win the game and win the 2nd half. At least we have minimized the amount of time of shitness in our horrible performances.
