Coaching Staff Eye on our Coaching (Ratten, Lade, Batchelor, Slater sign on)

People here often claim to be "impatient".
Making major changes to the coaching can be one of the most disruptive things that can happen, and can potentially de-stabilise the club and push us into the next rebuild Melbourne style.

Sexton has been at the club for years and is currently overseeing Richo and in charge of developing our game style etc which sucks. What is wrong with getting some fresh up to date ideas into the club?

The club have increased the spending and amount of staff in their football dept but when was the last time they attracted a well renowned assistant or ex AFL coach similiarly to successful clubs to assist.

We have a collection of people who havent worked at any other club than the Saints and this shows in our poorly drilled side. We need change.

Its all so simple. Get rid of him because he has been there for years. maybe he has been there for years because those who actually know about the coaches think he is best for the job. Maybe we just don't have any star players. That is more likely. And we can see that not guess about things we have no idea about.

Steven, Rooey and Montagna all fell away
That had a huge impact on the whole team performance IMO.

And it's even worse when you consider they were considered to be our only elite players pre season.

Roo went down Round 1....Stuv round 2....neither were basically the same consistently after that.

MASSIVE impact.

We have been smart enough to plan the re-build of the playing list and we're in the process of executing it.
We now need to be ruthlessly honest about who is not performing in the coaching panel and replace them to maximise the potential of the talent we have and will bring to the club.

This is the difference between high performing cultures and those who talk a good game.

Minch, Wright, Roberton and Webster were recruited in his first year, every other player on our list is new since then.

Richo inherited all four of those players

Webster - drafted '11
Minch - rookie draft '12 debut in '13
Roberton - delisted FA '12
Wright - drafted '12

And the out put from our three superstars in Steven, Rooey and Montagna all fell away sharply. Rooeys last half of the season was hard to watch besides Maddies match. Steven was mostly a shell of himself last year and joey was starting to lose his kicking penetration and run that had him as our only elite player last season in Champion Data stats.

Well said!

For much of the year Seb Ross was our best player. But even with his improvement, Stuv's best is still much more impactful than Seb's.

As for that Champion Data stat...that's downright freightening.

Oh yeah sorry thought he got here in 2013

Yep even Richo completely rebuilt the team to suit himself and will only have Ross, Newness, Gilbert, Geary, Steven and Armo. Montagna possibly that were inherited players.

I'm not sure how the recruiting works. Its not just Richo though.

He played his guys over players already on the list. It used to s**t me, he'd stubbornly leave out guys who'd shown promise under Watters even when VFL form looked like they deserved a game.

Any more discussion on coaching changes? Already a lot of names being thrown up, particularly by the Pies.. MG said to expect change. Does anyone have any news?

So who do you suggest could have made it if they'd got more games?

Don't know but he definitely had his new boys who got games ahead of Watters boys.

Looks like this guy has thrown his hat into the ring for the Suns coaching job

At least he has a great nucleus of a team to work with.

If we manage to get Dew, he will be the recruit of the off season. I think he will have a massive impact!
Would offer more than Lonie.

Plonk him in the pocket.

Bit surprised to read on an afl.com.au article that Harvey is staying at Collingwood. Thought he would have got the chop so Collingwood could feel as though some blood was shed from the coaching box/fresh ideas coming in however you want to look at it.

Thought he might be a chance to come home this off-season.

I agree that we need some fresh voices in the coaching box, but it's probably difficult in general to evaluate the performance of assistants compared to senior coaches.
