Fan threatened with eviction from MCG for barracking too loud

Nicholls does seem like the type that would love to orchestrate a situation whereby he is the victim and can sue for damages.

“Visibly shaken” at being called a flog and being told what decision you made was incorrect. Then saying the fan made a homophobic gesture.

I’m quite certain Nichols is a liar who will do what he can for his own victim mentality in order to extract maximum value. I still remember at half time after one game which I can’t remember who was playing (wasn’t this year), but the umpires were having a mare of a first half which affected the scoreboard in a big way.. and it was against both teams... and at half time here comes Nicholls running off the ground with his other umpire mates and they get to the race and start high fiving each other like they’d won a game or done a good job... the ego in these guys (and girl) has manifested to now they are willing to eject fans for mild commentary on their poor application of the job. This is bollocks.

Eleni unfortunately is just a bad umpire. I wish she was good or even moderate because having more female umpires would be a good thing for the game.. but with her it’s like having a work experience kid running goal review decisions for a billion dollar sport... they shouldn’t be in control because they can’t grasp the pace of the game with the requirement to make decisions correctly. She’s not up to it.

Scary to think where the game will be at in a few years time from now if this is the type of stuff that gets you ejected from a game.
Scary?

Are you actually scared of what will happen? Do you actually feel fear, or are you just being dramatic?

What is the worst outcome if people aren't allowed to yell criticisms at an umpire?

Why don't people argue the other way?

It'll be scary a few years time from now if we let this stuff go. If you can get away with saying this stuff, imagine what's next? Fans will be throwing stuff out onto the ground, etc.

The hyperbole approach is ridiculous in both directions, but to be scared of a world where people aren't allowed to yell abuse at people they don't know - that's just odd.

Australians will be devoid of a sense of humour, like Germans. **** that.

Thank you.

What I find scary (or sad) is the number of people outraged about potentially losing the right to yell racial, homophobic or any other type of abuse they deem fit at complete strangers who are trying to do their job under very demanding circumstances.

I would prefer that my daughter and I didn’t have to listen to that garbage when we go to a game. But maybe I’ve got it wrong and should tell her to harden up and stop being such a girl - and we’ll get to work on her vocab. That should solve it. :drunk:

Disgrace if he was thrown out for that but if he did indeed use “****” instead of “flog” then absolutely it shouldn’t be tolerated

Maybe so.

But if "****" is the benchmark for throwing people out then we should see at least 5k ejected every game.

I'm all for this, but lets also boot out those people, who lean over the fence and abuse players in an aggressive manner, while holding their beers..

She is another shocking umpire, she was dropped after the St Kilda v West Coast game for plucking out nothing free kicks in front of goal all for West Coast.

Then she was up to her all old tricks yesterday plucking out another nothing free kick to Brisbane in front of goal and another one to Carlton off the ball, meanwhile she misses obvious free kicks, the AFL keep appointing her as they are determined to be PC with female umpires no matter how bad they are.

The AFL are as much to blame for the umpiring as the umpires themselves, they give them mics and allow them to make themselves the centre of attention with inflated egos like Razor Ray, you see much better umpiring at state or club level where the umpires just do their jobs without all the egocentric nonsense.

Fans have been screaming at umpires for literally decades and the slippery slope you have described is still yet to occur

I’m glad he got thrown out. The umpires are trying to do their job to the best of their ability with the direction they are given. It is hard enough as it is. It’s no wonder why many don’t want to umpire. What a malicious disrespectful comment. Can people really not watch footy without insults!?? He should lose his membership too if Blues were serious about what represents the club. Well done to Nicholls for not taking any of the fans crap! I hope more follow suit!
Awesome satire, bud.

When do you go on tour?

Way to miss the point

Here is a recipient of the Order of Australia and former holder of the highest office in the state losing his shit at the umpires. And it's ****ing marvellous.

The game engenders passion FFS. It's the people who cannot grasp or accept this who shouldn't be there.

So 'bald flog' contains racial, and homophobic tones does it?

Jog on.
