Fan threatened with eviction from MCG for barracking too loud

AFL: "We're not happy with fan behaviour. Have the men walk the aisles and implement a strict regime of monitoring and punishment."

Rational humans: "But won't that just break down trust and create an atmosphere of tension and rebellion and exacerbate the problem?"

AFL: "You shut up. Also, you're ejected."

"Or we'll kick you out"

It seems pretty simple to me. If you think this crackdown could lead to you being kicked out, maybe try looking inwards rather than blaming the AFL for wanting to keep you accountable for being a dick. I'm thankful for security. There have been times where I, or people I've been with, haven't felt particularly comfortable at the football. It's really not that hard to get kicked out.

No **** it isn't a normal job. But why does that mean they should they have to put up with people being assholes? If you pay to see a comedian or band and heckle them, chances are you're getting kicked out for being a dick. You paid for your ticket, but you're still getting kicked out, and it's still reasonable that you're getting kicked out. It's pretty simple to me. Don't be a dick and you've got nothing to worry about.

I've never felt the need to abuse someone at the football. Don't know why you would either.
And that’s your choice, your opinion isn’t (and shouldn’t) be the universal standard though.

Not sure what the MCG or Marvel are like like, haven’t been to a game over there, but over here I don’t think I’ve ever seen guards pacing up and down the aisles. Sure they come down for a look every now and then but they definitely haven’t been doing laps of the stairs.
Maybe once or twice a quarter in my experience depending on where you sit and if there has been prior trouble in that section. If anything last night it was less than normal but I was up in nose bleeds. The media are massively over playing this, it shows what power they have in this country.

That's an assumption. They won't kick you out for no reason, mate. Can guarantee that. It's unnecessary hassle for them.
Security can kick you out for whatever they like. If they complain all they have to say is "The fan was being abusive or some generic stuff just to keep thier superiors happy"

Ejections and security walking up and down aisles isn't new, it's been happening forever.

Every year the AFL media whips the fans into a frenzy about some stupid shit. Last year it was state of the game. This year Ablett was kind enough to give them content for a month. But that's run dry so now they're focusing on this totally brand new phenomenon of fans being ejected from games which people seem to believe has never happened before in the history of AFL.

The nazi/communist analogies are obvious hyperboles, but enforcing corporate like compliance on sports crowds isn’t particularly great.

Especially when the afl have lied about its implementation, let alone its true purpose, which is corporate ass covering.

And that’s your choice, your opinion isn’t (and shouldn’t) be the universal standard though.
Why do you think people should get away with being dicks? There's literally no need for it, and all it does is set a terrible example for children and potentially hinder people's enjoyment and make them feel unsafe.
and there's your problem... where's the line and who decides?

People feel "uncomfortable" for a myriad of reasons
I've found it's not really that hard to tell when I'm being a dick. Unless there's exceptional circumstances, you'll get a warning in the first instance anyway.

They've always been able to do this. Nothing has changed. They're not suddenly kicking any more fans out for no reason would probably be a better way of phrasing it.

Why would an increased threat of being kicked out for anti-social behaviour make someone MORE likely to do something that will get them kicked out?

The fans were up in arms over this particular issue well before the media caught on. Yes fans have been getting ejected from games forever but it’s only been the last couple of weeks where it’s been apparent that it’s happening merely for using words like “flog” and barracking too loud.

Having previously worked in the security industry for 5 years, if someone is pissing you off, you can often find a reason to kick someone out. Anti-social behaviour being a chief one, as clients hate it.

Paper work be damned, it takes less than a minute to put in the necessary paperwork.

Lol

I've sat in the same seats at Marvel staduim since it was called colonial stadium (2001) and they have never ever walked up and down the aisles. Never!

This is different.

I've said it before we the fans need to boycott. Just one game, in protest.
That Carlton supporter who put tape over her mouth is on to something. Even if everyone in the stadium did that collectively for 1 minute.
Drastic times call for drastic measures.

Everyone has a different definition of “being dicks”.

I think the only solution is for alcohol to stop being served at AFL games. Grog is clearly the real problem, and removing it would solve the problems.

We won’t boycott, we love the sport itself and our clubs too much and the afl admins have known this for decades.

Can’t wait for the first one to lose their teeth tbh.
Attitudes like this are why we need more security presence.

To be fair, I daresay it's also partly a response to external social pressures (and rightfully so as well).

But if we're employing that argument we're accepting that a number of people are going to get kicked out for this reason anyway. It doesn't detract from the argument that more security means more genuine troublemakers will get kicked out.
Everyone has a different definition of “being dicks”.
And people that don't think abusing someone else for no real valid reason isn't a dick move is the reason why we need more strict security.

It's a shame we won't. There is enough of us. It's only one game, or one minute of a game. That's all it takes to be actually heard. It's because we love the sport and our clubs that the fans should do something about it.

Quite possibly the most moronic and over the top knee jerk reaction I’ve ever heard of. Congratulations champ. You deserve a hot chocolate before bedtime.

In your opinion. Which as I said isn’t, and shouldn’t be the universal standard.
