I wasn't in the Country when Terry Wheeler did his thing, remember the Brad Wira thing though.
He's like the AFL version of John Hopoate.
Gonad Brad vs John Stop-a-farty.

Number 29

Cook, Fred 1967-69 33
Fabulous Freddie Cook almost had a second stint at the dogs in 1980. Mick Erwin was in the running to coach the dogs but they went for Royce Hart instead. If Mick had got the job, he was intent on giving Fred another go at the dogs. Fred walked out on the dogs the first time, after getting dropped and spending weeks in the seconds. Did not get on with secretary Jack Collins. Fred reckons he was dropped only because he got on the piss with Charlie Sutton and Collins did not like him. Fred was certainly good enough to play more VFL football. His life spiralled downhill after he retired a champion at Port Melbourne. Good to see Freddie overcome his addiction after years of battles. Had a mate who knew him and said he would do anything for anyone.

My grandfather Herb Esse in fact played 10 games. He was on the dogs list in the 2nd half of '43 & all of '44.
See attached pic of his original club 'West Footscray' congratulating him on his senior call up for the dogs.

Great player Mickey Egan. Tough and honest.Reckon he did not get on with Malthouse, as he dropped him

Sadly Garry Wheeler passed away at a young age.
You are right Scray. Mickey was a rippa, who busted his arse every time he crossed the white line. It was a shame he did not play in the 1985 finals series, he played in some pretty ordinary sides and deserved some success. Mickey left in 1987, but as soon as Malthouse left I am pretty sure he came back as the runner. As you say, he was on the outer with Malthouse.

Didn't know about the Malthouse issue.

What number did he wear in 1943 in his first game ? Was not 21 according to the afl records.

Nice letter that

I believe Jack Gray left the club before the end of '43 & he wore #21 for his only game that year. Players could enter & leave lists easier back then and the other missing numbers would have been worn by other players earlier in the year who had left our list by the end of the year.
