Gawn and Grundy - a failure?

Ridiculously arrogant of Melbourne and their supporters to believe this would be anything but a failure .

Simply thought they could replace Jackson with Grundy and things would roll on the same . Jackson is a unicorn and can play anywhere Grundy is a number 1 ruck and nothing else.

Really feel this was another Simon “good stuff “Goodwin aloof idea that’s backfired badly on the dees
Mate most Melbourne supporters rate Jackson and didn't want to replace him in the first place. Your supporters have been way more critical of him than we have.

Arrogant is thinking it would instantly work, pathetic is how quickly they threw in the towel and decided it wont.

All the fuss about him not working forward, Hawks won a flag with McEvoy playing back when needed, swapping with Hale who would play forward.

Goodwin really doeant seem interested in trying things.

We definitely rotated him around the ground. At the end of the day he wanted to go home to Mummy.

Perhaps if Goodwin party'd a little less he would come up with some ideas.

Top 4 team and a dysfunctional forwardline. He has fallen upwards this year.
Yeah, because players never want to go home, do they? It’s must all be about Goodwin and his partying that led him to go home and to have some forward line issues that we’ve clearly fixed up in the last two months.

s**t post.

It worked really well when Max was out injured.
Great foresight.

End of discussion.

Sydney need a ruck, and there's a bit in the kitty now.

Strategically, Melbourne shouldn't do it though. Perhaps not entirely this season, but the Swans are still a bit of a competitor in the Dees premiership window. Would be mad to trade to the Swans, Port or Adelaide. Perhaps, North, Richmond, or Essendon is the way to go.
melbourne will always concentrate on us. We won't be too worried about competitors. it's only brodie Grundy. not exactly a Dean cox or Max gawn

12 weeks is a long time in football. “He’s now at a club that really values what he brings to his team, we’re certainly going to embrace that,”. Now there happy for him to be talking to other clubs.

Of course it was a failure. You have a top 5 ruckman in the game that can't fit into your squad. Complete waste of cap space by the Dees during their premiership window, regardless of Collingwood paying for some of it.

He wouldn't even be top 10 now.
He's slow, one footed, and all his taps rarely go to his midfielders. His height (202cm) is also a concern. Without the jumping ability, young up-and-coming rucks are matching him in that department.

His best days are well behind him.

It was a failure, but only because Gawn has stamped himself as easily the best ruckman of the modern era.

Melbourne did not realise just how big of a gap there is between Gawn and Grundy, or between Gawn the ruckman and Gawn the forward.

Slightly weird that they didn’t recognise the true value of their captain

I'll take your word for it because admittedly I was more going to noise etc to say he was still in the top 25 % of ruckman, as I have not watched a lot of him this year.

Once he retires, he will go down as one of the most interesting careers.

Once highly rated, probably the best or 2nd best player in his position, then highly paid, playing lots of VFL and told he is unwanted by two clubs. Strange.

Still going to be paid over 7 million though.

I think Gawn in general is a little underrated, he's an absolute monster of a player.
