A few Cats played their worst games for the year - Rohan, Miers, Kolodjashnij. Tomahawk's brain fades at important moments continue to occur. Port were faster, tackled better, won more one on ones. Umpiring even favoured Geelong. Can't see Geelong doing much from here. Chris Scott typically in denial in the press conference saying Geelong were as good as Port. You wouldn't know Geelong had lost the game. I can't stand the way he defends a poor performance.

Its fine to say who was on Motlop etc but ultimately we are just too big in defence. We effectively run with 4 guys who are immobile (Taylor, Henderson, Kolo and Henry) plus a Stewart who can play smaller but speed isn't his strength. The only guy who can properly play small is O'Connor and when that isn't going well we are screwed and get cut up small forwards as always. Then we play Tuohy out of position because our backline is deficient and we can't move anyone out.

The problem is even when Taylor retires we're screwed as we will get exposed by big forwards as the others struggle on the bigger, more powerful forwards. Hence, it will fix one problem but create another.
Um blicavs is a defender who can play on big fowards

Nah, you're asking a lot of a player to kick a goal from 45 out on the fence. It's grasping at straws. Yes we took the mark but it was in a fundamentally bad spot for the shot. We need to have composure moving the ball forward and find the leading forward in a better spot.
You didn't address the 4 other high % shots we missed in front of goal from a set shot. But no you're wrong, Hawkins has kicked insanly well from these positions all throughout the year, he wasn't even close to kicking them tonight, hell Robbie Grey won a game after the siren from the same position earlier in the year. But when there is a loose man back you take the entry at the boundary rather than a long bomb in to the loose man intercept all night long.

He would have been kicking from 57-60m, he was no chance to get that distance and made the right call trying to pass off in time, it was only 2 secs away from coming off.

You may be right. I haven't seen a replay of where he took the mark. I thought it was at 51m which would have been just within his range imo since he's a pretty long kick. But it may have been further out than that.

What other 4 high % shots? 2 of his 6 were ones he should've kicked.

God hes a bad coach.

Unprecedented...but sack him mid week, put scarlett is as interim?

( Note i havent thought if contracts pay outs etc)

That centre square set up with the game on the line of Atkins, Dalhaus, Duncan.might be the worst coaching decision in AFL history.

Typical Scott trying to outsmart everyone and have his coaching decisions be the reason geeling win.

We have to play him high because he's got a tank and there are others who need to play deeper than him. I said in the lead up there's no room for him in the side with Ablett in the team. I think maybe the best solution we currently have is to bring Fogarty in and rotate Menegola through the high half forward role

Not aimed at you, just venting a bit, but:

We don't have to pay him high, we choose to do that. He's a goal kicker. He can't kick them from 70 out on a flank. Put him in whichever pocket doesn't expose his lack of left foot and let him use his footy brain to crumb and kick goals. Someone else can do the mindless running - Clark would've good for it, though I'm sure there are other options

Henderson was good but he came into the pack, went the spoil, took out himself, Dixon and Taylor, punched the ball to their goalsquare and Motlop ran on for a cheap goal.

We have dumb footballers.
Then Stewart comes through and takes Menagola out, ball fumbles to butters, then hand balled to Ladhams kicks a goal

Fogarty would be eaten alive in a final.
He's not ready.

Still staggers me how Gary Rohan avoids criticism. He's an absolute dud of a footballer. When the lights are shining brightest, some guys just don't have the ticker to cope with it.
Well he can't be worse than Miers under pressure at the minute. Close is the other option but my feeling is we need to push a winger into the Miers role which means whoever comes in needs to take midfield minutes. I think Fogarty is the only reasonable option there. Narkle a defensive liability, Steven shithouse, etc. Fogarty is a natural scrapper at least.

Surely Duncan, Guthrie and menegola will be trading for first rounders we need to be bold instead of just getting players from other clubs

This isnt the year to be doing that. There has been no junior footy this year anywhere in the country. We'd be drafting kids based off what they did when they were 16 years of age almost. Taking a handful of 1st round picks to this draft could be a disaster.

Art Vandelay_ will tell you he was good..so wait for it...no doubt he will post a spirited, yet delusional defence of Kolo. .

Kolo very poor yet again. Trade him for Witherden....at least he delivers to team mates.

Miers was terrible until late...Henderson our best.

Kolo is a poor decision maker with poor disposal. The opposition know this and and are happy for him to have ball in hand and then hit him with some pressure and he crumbles. He's not a bad shutdown player but he offers no drive out of defence, in fact he kills momentum more than any other player in the team.

Henry is raw and makes the odd mistake but at least he plays with some enterprise and is a far more athletic option than Kolo.

I know that 'the moz' and 'the reverse moz' have no actual scientific basis in reality. I KNOW that. But, as Brother Seeds will attest to, some time before the game I gave Stevie Motlop a bake. Called him lazy. Said he'd still be knackered after kicking two goals in Ports last game of the H/A season.

That backfired. Motlop shat on us tonight. That's on me and I own it.

That plus bad kicking being bad football means another ordinary Qualifying Finals performance from us. At least we weren't blown off the park in the first quarter. At least we avoided another enforced bye. Baby steps.

The last 9 years have taken their toll. Time after time after time after time.

Yeah, while I disagree with the level of the vitriol (we came in with intensity, we created opportunities, we mucked them up when it counted, game over) I can understand people just being OVER these first week finals losses. Since 2011 we've won one first-week final and that was due to Isaac Smith missing an after-the-siren shot. We have been woeful at winning these games, even the ones where we've come in with the right endeavour and attitude. That's why I'm not angry and just feeling flat. I thought we had a great chance to win this game and as we started missing our moments I realised it was going to play out the same as before and it just deflating.

I will say, if we're conceding (as many seem to be) that us getting through to a (probable) prelim against Richmond = a flogging, then making the Grand Final and getting the flogging there hardly seems appetising either! Seems like most have us as zero chance to beat the Tigers in a Prelim so I'm wondering whether those people thought we were a better chance in a GF? If not, screw it, may as well lose now.
