We peaked about 7-8 weeks ago. As I said Those games flattered us though. Saints off 4 day break and rested Ryder and Jones and port after a GF win against tigers were flat against us. There was minimal pressure in those games and we looked wonderful. Last year we peaked in May. We are H & A specialists unfortunately.
Yep maybe, but not sure ( lol, despite the evidence). Every year is not the same players. Reiwoldt made an interesting comment that for Geelong to win, our system relies on it working perfectly, no room for error- so any error is costly and things break down under pressure. Whereas teams like Richmond, and even port have a game plan that doesn’t need to be perfect to get the win, can tolerate errors, it’s just a contest. Port just keeps kicking it back in till they eventually score, it’s not on the back of a perfect bit of play. Scott needs to tweak it more proactively when things are not quite working and just let them go for it- up the guts get to goal as quickly and directly as possible.
We will beat the eagles next week and then you are in with a chance.

I honestly think a big part of being on the bench was the fact that he was absolutely cooked, a finger isn't holding a player back in a final.
If you can't get it back in and it's not sitting right then it'll have an impact

They tried to pop it back in while on the ground and couldn't get it; he went off and they tried again and still had trouble getting it back in - sounds like they spent at least 5 minutes trying to pop a dislocated finger back into place which isn't great

They then taped his fingers together and in the short footage they showed it didn't look like his fingers were sitting flat/level, like there was a clear issue with the dislocated finger

If his finger & hand wasn't right then it makes even the basics harder - trying to pick up the ball, making etc

The lack of the decisive taking of the first option is maddening among so many players. We are so slow to make decisions, Menegola being a prime example in finals heat. He has had a great year and did some good things early, but he isn't decisive enough and very slow to get rid of it. Selwood & Stewart always make good decisions, but not too many others do who get a whole lot of the ball.

I think we should take the punt on Steven, he has used the ball poorly this year but he can get hold of the ball and break the game open at times, and might be a bit more physical than some. Perhaps one of Miers, Atkins, or a tall defender comes out to make way. Miers was pretty disappointing in a couple of contests.

Our balance seemed all over the place last night. Lots of guys flying for the same ball, not enough cover on the ground at those contests, tall and slow to move the ball out of defence, and one-dimensional up forward with fairly ineffectual smalls.

No other team goes into matches with as many defenders as us.

Surely someone at the MC has to have put 2 and 2 together by now.

Cap the defense at 6 + one on the bench and someone like Clark who can attack from HBF.
But Scott is a backman. All that understands is defence.

I floated it a few days ago but last night confirmed it...Dalhaus has to be replaced. Giving us nothing atm. And we have one defender too many. Drop Kolo, put Blicavs at CHB where he’s an All Australian, bring in Clark at HB for run and carry. Move 2E to permanent HFF. Bring in Close.

At this point, I don't really care anymore about this group of players.
Interesting. I feel the same way. Care factor way down.
When we lost in previous eras it hurt because the teams had an identity, personality, played attacking football. Even the perennial finals under performers of the eighties and nineties.
I can’t say why, but I think it’s because we no longer have a brand.
Just a ’destination club’ (read;comfortable twilight of your career paid holiday destination )
Always contesting (read; Except in finals )
We are in danger of becoming a laughing stock. I was always proud to put my hand up as a cats supporter. I will always be, but am tending to be slightly hesitant owning up to that these days. Never experienced that before, even in fallow times.

At least Dhal gives a **** about the team and the perfomance

he stays in to be rewarded for that , too many soft non competitive players in the side that needs to be weeded out first

we are going nowhere near the GF so why give a **** about the next final

I said this to my mates last night after the game and I quote “
I tell you one player who escapes finals scrutiny
Dangerfield”

I've said it for a couple of years now but honestly if you judge a player's finals record by comparing their H&A output to their finals output he might be the worst finals player of all time. Even his finals that have looked good on the stats sheet have consisted of winning the ball but using it poorly and being completely exposed defensively. Last night was no different.

Danger and Martin are similar and comparable quality players. But if their finals output was switched it's probably us with the recent premierships and the Tigers questioning why they're not quite good enough. Martin steps up big time in finals while Danger loses all composure and it has cost us time and time again.

I really think wells need to target players that are ultra competitive , I don’t care about skills too much you can see that a lot skill team like the tigers can succeed.

we need new players, new coaches and rebuild the club from the ground up and weed out the mentally weak players to rebuild the culture

And go back to some of that one on one contested training that Bomber apparently used.

But he was still our best player last night.

Haha what? Apart from the goal which was because the Port player dropped a simple mark can you name a single quality piece of play from him? I think I remember 1 contested mark. For the most part it was handballs to teammates feet, kicks to disadvantage, turnovers and being a defensive liability. People are having a go at Parfitt but Danger's game was basically Parfitt's without the quality defensive work.

It’s time Scott owns our finals record. Brushing it off and saying it’s lazy Criticism smacks of a fragile ego. Own the post bye record too!

Yeah I like Chris Scott as a coach but concede there are questions. His response to the question is frustrating and really annoys me. He can't cop the question and that worries me because whilst he says they look at everything his defensiveness suggests he might not review it with the open mind it requires. However, the most frustrating thing of all is how the gutless journalists don't have the balls to take him to task on his response. They timidly broach the subject and never follow up.

So here's one. Chris you say that every team has a losing finals record if they aren't Richmond. You also say it's lazy because the team changes so much year to year let alone within a few years. Taking that into account.

1. The thing that hasn't changed is you and the style you coach the team. That is the constant. Are you worried that your very precise slow style might not be conducive to finals pressure?

2. We don't have a losing finals record if you want to compare us to other teams. That would be fine like most other teams. What we have is an appalling finals record. 7-9 is a losing finals record as is 6-10. 4-12 is a serious serious concern and seems hard to dismiss like you do as lazy.

You can add Henry to you list. Boy he seems like a space cadet. Young and will be a good player but geez he thinks slowly under pressure!
