Parfitt turns the footy over like a bloke taken in the 4th round, cant believe we picked this bloke with a top 30 selection, woeful.
I can't believe some like him, and some tonight said he played well.
Well he did, for Port Adelaide. Hit their chests more than he did ours.

Putrid footballer.

Well that was disappointing.
So many players down. Miers, Kolo, Henry, Rohan, Ablett, O'Connor, Stewart, Menegola.... the list goes on

Selwood was huge early.
Hawkins was ok. Just didn't convert. Could have had another monster game against them.

Pretty much our whole backline was bad bar Henderson and Bews was ok.
Sadly Taylor is just about spent.
And I dont think Kolo and Henry can play in the same team. Just comical at times.

We did play the top team on their home ground in front of their crowd. That needs to be considered.

Need to make some wholesale changes of players who continually fail to fire in finals. Miers and Kolo can **** off. Rohan too.

Have a look at their midfield tonight compared to ours.
How big they were, how strong they were compared to ours.
And how they attacked the player and the ball.
No fuss, crash through and get it moving
That's finals footy and its a different game.
It happens every year. We are not made for finals.

Yet they want to bring in Higgins. lol.

The changes I would make.
Taylor has to go out for Clark. Taylor isn't a match for Kennedy or Darling, so he needs to be out of the team. Rotate Kolo, Blicavs and Henderson on Kennedy and Darling.

Rotate O'Connor and Bews on Ryan.
Bring in Clark to provide run and drive with Stewart and Bews off HBF.

Drop Atkins, because for all his "defensive pressure" he laid 2 tackles and did sweet FA. Bring in Close because since we have dropped him our F50 defensive pressure has vanished.

Drop Miers or Parfitt for Narkle.

Perhaps both come in. Clark needs to come in for either Kolo or Henry. Taylor is done though he battled manfully tonight. Rohan and Miers absolute failures. Completely ineffectual. I'd even consider bringing DeKoning in. He won't go any worse.
Team changes effectively irrelevant
We cant move the ball quickly enough

Unless coaching group accept That it's more of the failed same

SAME OLD SHIT

Same qualifying final situation: win and we get the arm chair ride to the GF. Lose and we have to do it tough. 4-5 times the same predicament in the last 7-8 years.

The positive was we turned up, we didn’t get blown away like other years and gave ourselves a chance but we still shit the bed..... in front of goal. Mainly Hawkins. 3 goals missed which were 99.9% opportunities. The other 3 shots were from the boundary but you would back him to get at least 1/3 from those spots. He does it regularly. There were other gettable missed goals in first half including Stanley and Kolo which were better than 50/50 opportunities.

So we gave ourselves a chance which was great but ultimately we still shit the bed. 4 more scoring shots. Should have been 20 points or so up at half time which completely would have changed the dynamic of the game.

We will win next week and we will get excited and hopeful. Then we will lose to Richmond and it’ll be just like every other year. Then we will bring in some big name mature recruits and we will do it all again in 2021.

8/9 finals post 2011 Shit hot. Love it. But since 2011 I’d rather make finals once or twice and win a flag than be supposedly close every year but not really that close.

SAME OLD SHIT

Yes the big fella is copping a caning on here and he was the best key forward in the ground by a mile...missed two he shouldn’t have and the rest were tough set shots.
Easy target. Putting it on Hawkins is easier than conceding we were no chance after half time and got completely bent over. Give people hope... If only he'd just converted. Well, if only the side and its gameplan didn't get completely cut to pieces again... but that's a more difficult issue to address.

If you cant see why Scott is the major fault with this club then that's on you because its obvious where we are deficient.

We have been out worked in every final we've played, Port Adelaide first to the ball all night. That goes to intent and preparedness for the contest, something we have severely lacked for the duration of Scotts tenure. It is not a coincidence that our record after a bye and record in finals has been so poor for so long.

When the pressure goes up we start moving the ball down the line which lets Port back into the contest. We go into our shell and start taking the low risk kicks to a pack on the wing which if we dont mark, falls to ground and then we get out worked around the contest, lose the ball and that creates a scoring shot for them. Or it creates an entry inside 50 along the boundary line for us which is always a low percentage set shot.

The only time we looked like taking a mark inside 50 tonight was when Stanley was down there early in the first quarter. It shouldnt be surprising to anyone that we look better up forward if we play two tall forwards, but it seems like it is a surprise to Scott. Almost every one of Hawkins set shots was a low percentage shot, tight on the boundary 45-50 out from goal. Port Defenders stopping his lead up the middle, pushing him wide to take a mark on the boundary line. Defenders love forwards taking marks there because it takes a miracle to kick the goal.

When we looked good was off half back, going direct through the middle. But then we go inside 50 and it's Rohan flying from 3 deep who cant take the mark while Hawkins has 3 defenders hanging off him. If Scott thinks that's what a good forward line looks like you need to reconsider whether you can coach AFL football. Letting defenders molest Hawkins all night while relying on Danger and Rohan to kick a score is not how we win a flag.

Then there is the utterly stupid way in which we handle the ball inside 50. Rohan drops the mark and then we overuse the ball by hand and move it backwards out of our forward 50, only to turn it over and create an opportunity off half back for Port. Again that's coaching and training, the good teams have composure and bring pressure when they have it loose inside 50 which results in the ball being locked in. Meanwhile we try to create the perfect shot on goal by handpassing it 50 times to try and create space that isnt there. It's no wonder we look good during the home and away season, we can create space against crap teams. But when finals come and it isnt there because they out work us we just turn it over time and time again.

Finally its selection that is the worst stain on Scotts coaching tenure. Miers in a ******* final, what is that about? Anyone can see he doesnt have the ability to step his game up when the pressure is on. Everyone of his sh*t games this year has come against quality opposition. But he keeps getting selected. Dare i say the same is true for Mark O'Connor, who did fu** all tonight.

Miers and O'Connor out for Clark and maybe Narkle, but i have no confidence in any of that really, but the message needs to start being sent that if you cant step up for finals you're out. But the real inclusion we need is Jenkins. We need the second genuine forward, not a resting ruckman. Scott, please ******* see sense and logic for once in your miserable existence and bring him in as a forward. Stop torturing us with this crap.

Rant over, time to drink.
Miers is shit full stop. I tried telling people that he's scared of the ****in' ball. He is one of the softest players in the league.

occam razor dude. Think about it.

The Occam's Razor explanation is that certain players fail mentally in finals and that's what we saw tonight. Individual choke jobs.

I agree that Scott has botched it in previous finals btw, so this isn't a defense of Scott. His finals record is completely unacceptable and he shoulders a lot of the blame for those losses. I just think while the *overarching observation* that Scott has coached poorly in finals is true, not every single final has to be made to fit the "we lost because of Scott incompetence" narrative simply because we're all *broadly* annoyed with Scott's 10-year performances in finals.

So yes, Scott's tactical and structural decisions in finals have been terrible since 2012, but I don't think tonight was an example of that. I think it's more an example of a collective mental weakness (which Scott has to share at least some blame for, even if it's an intangible) and choking by individual players during key moments.

This was a very winnable game
Hawkins kicked the worst I've ever seen him kick, he just needed to kick 2 of them.
Motlop's goals were unforgivable, how are we allowing a small forward to get goal side? How do we flood a backline, they kick sideways for 1 min then enter the forward line and they get a grubber over the back because we have no one on the last line of defense?
Taylor is well past it, he can't intercept mark anymore and is a liability if the ball ever touches the ground near him.
Danger missing from the contest at crucial times.
Henry is our worst player in high pressure games
The complete lack of game awareness cost us 2 shots at goal right on qtr time sirens.
I feel a contributor to our loss was Ports ability to make tackles stick (especially out of the center), too many times they broke free of ours and hacked it forward.
Control does not be chaos, we have seen this too many times before with Richmond, its so bloody effective in finals footy, just tackle well, apply pressure and get it forward.
Stewart repeatedly ran off Motlop to effect the contest (but didn’t effect anything) and left Motlop goal side. Once and you forgive him, 3 times and you drag him.

It's just so hard watching this gameplan in finals fail over and over again.

I mean Taylor, Henderson, Blicavs, Kolo, Henry all taller defenders plus M.O.C, Stewart, 2e, Bews all in one team check.

You kick 40 points again technically I guess it's better because of the shortened game time. The forward half just never fires Hawkins missed but he has zero help so nothing has changed.

Slow midfield check

I respect port Adelaide as a club and the difficulties of this season for everybody but to be truthful that's probably the softest minor premier team I have seen in the last 15 years. I mean trent McKenzie is literally at full back.

Just brutally disappointing to be honest if you were going to break this hoodoo opportunities don't get any better.

Nothing Chris Scott can do with this group anymore just develop the kids and draft picks as best as possible for the next coach who comes along in however many years. His gameplan is just outdated and cats haven't had access to super elite talent across the board he probably needs to get the cats back to a GF he tried hard he is consistent that's for sure. Just lacked the ability to evolve happens to the best of coaches so no disrespect intended. He had his time on top as a player and coach sometimes it's just one year though

I just don't know whether our high possession short game is good enough in finals. SKILL EXECUTION.

Get it wrong and teams will just slaughter us with back half turnovers. Particualry against Port Adelaide who's game is based on front half pressure.

It will only work if we play on quickly off the mark. Short kick, Mark, and PLAY ON quickly
