I thought Scott’s presser was good. Measured. Fact is we were not good enough tonight. We made costly mistakes. We needed Hawkins
This is BS, we were good enough tonight we just didn’t react in any way shape or form from the coaches box.

When the oppo key forward has kicked three on the man playing on him it is time to try taking the wing that has done nothing to that point on him to see if he might have a bit more impact stopping him.

When clearing the ball Danger needs to look where he's kicking to. Literally every single time he just boots it to the forwardline down the throat of an opposition player.

But he is by far our best player and in all honestly the bottom 15 are the problem. Tuohy is a joke sick of him demanding the ball when he's useless and he can't kick goals either.

Gee there's some crap written in here. I get that we're all angry and disappointed, but still.

O'Connor has had a great season, and was good again tonight. His improvement over last year is astounding, and given his age and lack of experience you'd expect him to have a lot more upside still. Potting him is ridiculous.

Parfitt is a special player. He's only 21 and still inconsistent, but his ability and awareness are very good. Can find space where there isn't any. Big future.

Miers played well. Clearly a big game player. Has a future as well.

Harry is cooked. Time to retire. He got absolutely taken to the cleaners tonight. Lynch is a good player, sure, but he pretty much did what he liked tonight. The comparison with Kolo's job on Riewoldt - just as good a player as Lynch - is very telling.

I agree with the calls for Blicavs to have played on Lynch. He seems a much better match up for Lynch than anyone else, and he does not work up the field. I find Blicavs a hugely frustrating player, so many errors, and those errors are amplified when he plays up the ground and is asked to be an offensive player. Daitro nailed it: he has clear deficiencies in his game and the club just seems to pretend they don't exist. He's slow and he can't kick, so play him in defence where he doesn't have to call on those skills frequently, or don't play him at all.

The mistakes under intense Richmond pressure were telling in the second half tonight - Blicavs and Stanley in particular continue to make horrible errors, and they had a few mates in the second half tonight. In a prelim final against a team as good as Richmond, you pay for those.

Aside from that, the Tigers got on top in the stoppages in the second half despite the skipper's best efforts, and they shut down the possession game we executed so well in the first half. We reverted to that slow, defensive, kick down the line style that will never win a prelim. We needed something better, but didn't have it. The question is, was the problem the game plan itself, or the players' ability to execute it? A bit of both, I think.

I think you'll find the 3rd round pick offered for him somewhat unpalatable. Not that he's not worth more than that but if you're pushing a player out you are accepting unders, often bad unders, because the pressure is on us to make the trade. Clubs have to be sniffing first.

There is no way on God's green earth we walk away from so catching like that winners
I agree 3rd rd wouldn't be worth it for us, but he could add as a make weight example Parfitt and pick 19 for Bruce and a future 2nd rd

No you try another key back and then you go to Blitz but wouldn't have mattered as their forward line was so open that nobody would have stopped Lynch marking

Watching the replay. The third qrt is an absolute cluster F$:$

The skills and decision making invited them back. Don’t worry about who didn’t have the ball. Miners made three huge errors.

The biggest reason our finals campaign failed was Chris Scott, but having made the prelim they'll pat him on the back at clubland and paper over the cracks.

Absolutely. Every step and inch.

Stanley
Hendo

Worst farken decisions of ALL farken time. Hendo is a DUD. Get rid of him. Followed by 2e. Carlton rejects that cost us and cost and farken cost us. Nice fellas both but now can heck off. Hopeless.

Hawks decision to whack rather than push will go down in infamy. If only. Meantime tigers get a Lynch. We get nothing,

We ran out of legs due to having played the extra final. 20 points at half time wasn't going to be enough. Our players tired in the second half, while RICH had the fresh legs.

Losing Hawkins was also very telling. Add 3-4 from him and it might have been different. The decline in form and/or injury of Rohan since mid year had also made our attack much less potent.

The loss to COLL was a big fail. And it was costly because the result was playing a fresher opponent in a PF. The win against WCE was a big tick. Tonight was about par: RICH have been in better form for a while, are fielding a slightly better team, it was played at their fortress, and we were without our key forward, so I didn't expect it to be close. TBH, I was somewhat happy with our competitiveness.

It's been great having Ablett end his career at home, but his time is at an end. He maybe has a few great games left, but not a season worth of consistent play. Better to initiate someone new.

Taylor I think should stick around another year. His first half tonight was excellent, and his form has been consistently good.

Kelly will hopefully generate two 1st round picks, which is a good outcome. We will turn pick 23 into two years of excellent service and two first rounders. Happy with that.

We desperately need a ruck and have for years. They are very hard to get with our traditional low picks, but the recruiters need to be single minded in finding one.

Guthrie was excellent in the two finals he played. He needs to be given a Duncan-like role in the future. He is much better when creating play than negating.

Miers and Clark were the pick of the new talent this year. Narkle has surprised me, I thought he gained composure through the final series. He is a keeper. O'Connor and Henry are decent additions. Ratugolea could go either way—he shows signs of being a dangerous key forward but is still inconsistent. It is early in his career though, and was good to see him holding a few marks tonight.

I don't think there is a huge mystery about the gap between our pre-bye and post-bye form....

Pre-bye Stanley was having his occasional purple patch so we had an AFL level ruck for a change. Post bye he wasn't, and we didn't.
Pre-bye Rohan and Dalhaus were in a rich vein of form, providing immense forward pressure, and score board pressure. Post-bye they weren't.
Pre-bye Ablett was in the conversation as an AA forward. Post-bye he wasn't and didn't deserve to be.
Pre-bye Kelly was the best midfielder in the league by a stretch. Post-bye he was just 'good'.

So some of the key features that saw us 'step-up' on last season fell away in the second half.

I would also speculate (wildly) that they prepared heavily for the fist two months of the season due to the difficulty of the early part of the draw. They hit the ground running but may have spent their tickets for the back half.

Whatever the case, the big disappointment of this season is that they were playing a cut above the competition but couldn't maintain it.

Many will hold Scott responsible because its always nice to allocate blame to someone or something when things don't work out as you like, and because blaming the coach is a part of the AFL Punch and Judy show, and because an internet connection makes everyone an expert and campaigner. But when you look at our form over the last few months, can you honestly say that this is a premiership team? IMO it isn't. Geelong didn't under achieve this year; finishing 3-4 is about right.

Anyway, I look forward to next season. Will be interesting to see whether the club view this team as still challenging or in need of regeneration.

I noticed that too, he looked so sad. I knew when i saw snr that it would be his last game. Really sucks
It doesn't seem in any way fitting for the best player of the past decade to just bow out. He should be playing his last game in front of an adoring packed KP crowd aware that it was his last. Chaired off and a couple of laps of honour and waves at the end.

This way just feels wrong.

He's not the reason why we lost but I just don't see the point of Blicavs playing when he's not in defence or rucking. 10 possessions on the wing is basically a man down. I thought we had moved past hamstringing ourselves a few years ago when we used to play him there. Obviously not. He has clear deficiencies in his game and the club just seems to pretend they don't exist. He's slow and he can't kick, so play him in defence or the ruck where he doesn't have to call on those skills frequently or don't play him at all.

Sidenote: bravo Tim Kelly. As a potential last game for us he stood up when others couldn't. Thanks for your efforts.
Yes Blicavs shot for goal in the 2nd was predictable. He can’t kick or impact forward of centre. When he played wing , 3rd man up he was a defensive mid that mostly handballed. It was a poor finals coaching performance and media performance from Scott. There needs a Hardwick type change of mindset or just get out already!

Needs to kick on the left - seems more reliable when kicking on the opposite foot

I agree, i stuck around thinking we would chair harry off and that didnt happen either. Will be a bit sad if they both retire tomorrow without a proper send off!
