I've been ambivalent for a while now, but on the back of tonight's result, I've shifted fully in to the "Scott out" camp.

Now, I'll caveat that remark by making it clear that the fact that I want him to go does not mean I think he's awful. Any claim that he's a "bad coach", a "hack" or a "spud" is clearly ridiculous. You can't win as many games as he has at the highest level if you're incompetent. Broadly speaking I think he's in the "good but flawed" category - that's the nuance that needs to be acknowledged IMO in any discussion of his failings in finals. With all that said, however, I do think it's time for him to go now. He's had chance after chance - mostly chances created by his own good work, to be fair - and yet we've continued to collapse in September in the exact same way. It's gone on for too long and excuses can no longer be tolerated.

Btw, I realise he *won't* go...the above is really just an articulation of my feelings on how things sit regarding our coach more than anything else.

I agree with it all.

The young kids stopped after half time. Guthrie I didn't see at all after the half. Same with Atkins.

Not putting our best defender on Lynch was the worst coaching move after the ruck debacle of the Pies game.

That's two selection mistakes that have cost the Cats a GF birth.

So many bad decisions. Who carries can?

Nah I’m pretty bloody annoyed to support the side who didn’t want it more.
We had them on toast. We had them worked out and they had a concussion, a player with a bung shoulder and dusty was sore as hell.... yet they dominate us?
How don’t we crack in harder and make a sore and sorry team even more sore and sorry.
Absolutely no killer instinct but we get away with this because most people expected to get flogged.
They aren’t better, we just don’t care as much and it’s bloody disappointing.

On toast ?

3 goals is nothing in the modern game.
They brought the heat and got their game style going in the second half we couldn't go with them.

Yes disappointing.

Those 3rd quarter mistakes cost us a few goals.

We needed to hold strong the first few minutes of the 3rd quarter, either create a stalemate or strike like we did at the start of the second quarter - regardless of how it was done we needed to be the first to score & kick a goal

Instead, they kicked 2 quick goals & suddenly the crowd was back involved. When Richmond ran onto the ground to start the second half there was minimal/no noise from their fans & if we score first then it sends them more into their shells

Didn't happen, their fans found their voices, their players found confidence and unlike last week we didn't have the answers

Watch the 1st half again and you’ll be baffled at how this game just flips.
At the game, I knew 3-4 goals isn’t enough but on TV I was unaware of all their struggles. They looked so sore yet beat us up badly in the 2nd half.

I can’t comprehend how poorly we played in that 2nd half. I know they brought the heat and got their game going but how we aloud that and never once looked like stopping it has me perplexed.

Huge chance went begging just like in 2013 people will just say oh well we weren’t the better team anyway.

Feeling pretty flat having just got home, the effort was there but sadly the 4 quarters wasn’t.

Most important trade-draft period for us since 2010, really need to get some key positions in and how we use the picks for Kelly is vital.

There’s only one team every year who doesn’t end the season disappointed.

I gave up on finals a long time ago. It is totally flawed. This can be showed by how few times the minor premier gets up.

I’xe seen 3 flags and got to enjoy them in the prime of my life before kids. If they really start following football I’ll want them to witness it but I’m pretty content.

I just want to see us win games of footy and new talent come through. Can’t complain with us going at 70. Most struggling teams would give their right nut for so many wins.

Thanks for the season Cats.

That's one key positive from the finals is that for the most part I thought our youth looked good, they didn't seem to get blown away or overawed, and they didn't look out of place - not to say they didn't have down moments, but there were good signs for the future
Is part of the moderators job to be always positive and tow the Geelong FC line? Serious question.

But September it’s not 70%. And you’re content? Wow

Any chance we had a few injury concerns or extra sore bodies?

I know it's been mentioned about Danger being down in the second half, someone said Guthrie was on the exercise bike during half time, think it was mentioned Stewart spent like 15 minutes on the bench during the 3rd quarter and I'm pretty sure Ratugolea had extended time on the bench in the last quarter

One thing I noticed during the game is we seemed to be using the interchange more than Richmond - we were up to 28 interchanges during the 1st quarter, and at about the 23rd/24th minute mark of the last quarter we had used 88 of our 90 interchanges. That seemed a lot with still 5/6 minutes to go.

Wasn't sure if there was a reason for a highish interchange count from the first quarter

Cheers this has to explain my frustration. We can’t just get rolled so easily by a side who had injuries.
We had to have our own issues, still very disappointed at them wanting it more.

No we dont have the players thats the problem, we have stop gaps filling in positions, your money free country...
Finish on top of the ladder, play shocking and only lose by 10 points to Collingwood, knock over the reigning premier, and completely dominate Richmond for a half, yet we don't have the players?
What an odd observation.

They did something similar to Brisbane last week.
Bris stopped them in thier tracks.
But richmond found away to get on top.

Most people on this board a disappointed ,sad, upset etc.

We needed to stay with them or better our lead going into the last quarter.
They cracked in hard while we made some big mistakes.
We stopped scoring can't do that vs richmond or anyone in finals.

They went out in straight sets last year. They didn't make the finals this year.

Also, I don't think we 'blew' this year. It was clear going into this finals series that we weren't premiership material. We hadn't won 2 games on the trot since late June/early July. I don't think we have been 'premiership material' since 2013. Since then we've been consistently very good, but others have been better.

As for their finals history vs. ours, I am not fazed. They have their history, we have ours. I prefer ours, even with the disappointments.
Ridiculous thoughts tbh. We finished on top, yet it was clear we are not premiership material?? Yes we blew it! Effin dogs 16, & shitty tigers 17 won the god damn thing.
Don’t be content with failure! Ever!

What an odd observation.

It’s not odd when the end result is 1-2 in the finals and since 2017 2-5 in finals. Not odd at all. Don’t sugarcoat the 10 points to Collingwood- it was a mauling! And were we that good first half or tigers after a 2nd bye a little lethargic?

We have the players.

Yes we were incredible in the first half, haven't seen pressure like that from the cats for a long long time. Couldn't substain it though.

Two fundamental mistakes:

1. Blicavs not going with Lynch
2. Hawkins being sloppish with the suspension.

That's basically it imho. Being very honest here.

And we would've won the GF against Pies or GWS.
Tigers will win this easy now.

Sick of Scott & his pressers. “ we are clear what our deficiencies are as we were last year, but we are not in the business of having to explain them; anyone that thinks that we need to explain them then they’re just wrong “ some bull crap like that.
What a moron. Just doesn’t have the answers? Blicavs role in finals? Was that a deficiency air head?
Too much time in the gym in his playing days I think!

I must admit I agree Scott is aweful in press conferences - comes across as smug and very unlikeable - i guess he was that as a player and it worked for him then - but not having same affect as a coach.

Is part of the moderators job to be always positive and tow the Geelong FC line? Serious question.

Didn't realise there was something wrong with looking for positives to take away from things - surely better than only looking at the negatives

And what's the "tow the GFC line about" - not sure about the other mods but I currently have no direct connection with the GFC and as such not sure what the line to tow would be.
