Of course. Players can and do win games btw, but I agree with the concept over a 120 minute game. Richmond was always going to win last night being the superior team. Have said that all second half of this year.'My claim is we may be looking at them as an all-time great team as well, but they will need to win next week. I am defending our loss. We are a good team. BUT... Richmond has been strengthened by Lynch and should be a force for several years, and if they are up to winning flags, will be highly regarded. We are not in that league.
Just like Hawthorn 13, 14, 15 - surely an all time great team, even if we hate that.
You are right. Lynch won it for them, then. 5 goals. We got beat by less than three.

Indeed. For Tom Browne and others, I'll give you a head start:

1. Having finally found a position for Blicavs as a key defender, and with Tom Lynch killing us, why didn't you play him there?
2. Why did you move Dangerfield forward at the start of the third quarter, when he was playing well in midfield?
3. Why did you not play Blicavs in defence for the ENTIRE FINALS SERIES?
4. Why didn't you try Taylor forward which would have allowed Henderson to play in defence where he is far more comfortable?
5. Given that you specifically recruited Zac Smith and Scott Selwood, why weren't either selected during the finals and what are their futures?
6. We recruited Gary Rohan, a player known for having injury issues and disappearing in finals. He ticked both those boxes this September. Was recruiting him a mistake?

Easy.
taylor was good in the second quarter, and lynch would have been the same with their ball movement
rohan was exceptional at the start of the year, over the last 3 months he was concussed etc which no one can control
smith was a roll of the dice, and failed
henderson did enough early

We seemed to completely change our method after half time. In the first half we were using the switch and/or short kick in the corridoor to great effect; after half time it was back to the long down the line plan which Richmond picked off with ease (a good, strong key forward might have made a difference...).

I'm not sure if this change was a) a coaching directive; b) players going into their shells and not willing to take any risks; or c) a credit to Richmond for blocking off those options.

Man, that loss hurt.

c.
plus d- players ran out of legs and composure when the FRESHER Tigers exerted their true pressure game

And I did say earlier this week Hawkins is worth 4 goals to us directly and indirectly, and that we would miss that.
Also suggested Prestia would be a thorn

One thing that has been weird this finals series is the lack of excitement shown by players towards goals kicked by Kelly in the last quarter. Happened against both Pies and Tigers, and both times they mentioned it on radio. Should also be noted that both goals were kicked during stages of the game when we were still in it on the scoreboard.

He kicked 20 goals in his first 9 games, which was outstanding.

After that, 5 goals in his last 10 games, and less than 10 touches on eight occasions. Only once did he have more than 3 tackles. The idea that he's a relentless forward pressure machine is a myth. It wasn't a surprise, he simply turned back into Gary Rohan.

A bit harsh on Rohan. I think there’s more to it. Anyone that can play that level for 10 weeks has the ability to do it consistently.

To be fair he was like that at Adelaide too, and has been absolutely indulged from the minute he deigned to give Geelong an audience. Shouldn't be surprised.

The reality is his finals performances do not match home and away. He disappeared into the void in the second half when the heat went up. Got to be better than that.

But I'm looking forward to six months of reading how he deserves a premiership. Last I checked players played for teams, not the other way around (might want to look at Jack Graham for an example of that).

Even look at the way Danger plays compared to Dusty. Dusty is a star but he also comes across as a real team player. Dangerfield is very me me me.

He did not cost us anything really, and showed a lot early on.

Agreed.
Still, he's given heaps tom our team.Without him, we would not be in the 4

He did show a lot early on, and it was exciting to watch - unfortunately we can't hide from the fact that he fell off a cliff.
The concussion/s provides some mitigation, but also he reverted to a career-long habit of underperforming when it counts.

Also, I hate the argument that so-and-so 'didn't cost us anything' - his wage goes against our salary cap and he takes up a list spot that could otherwise have been used to develop a kid.

Doubt that.
We are about where we deserve to be given the season, but I would think Pies would do us again. GWS are enigmatic, and certainly capable of upsetting them this week.
I have no doubt in my mind if we won last night, and faced the pies in the gf we would have beaten them.

Your constant defending of chris scott is baffling though. He’s not god.

I am worried this could knock the stuffing out of us mentally. Players stop listening to the coach. I remember the Saints players did that in 2011. 2010 was too much for them.

I said the exact same thing on the main board years ago about St Kilda, 2009 and 2010 broke them. Lyon had them playing such a mentally and physically demanding game style, that when it fell short by just a smidge both years, it broke their spirits. They only had to have a few drop off by a few percent here and there and they whole system just crumbled. Same happened at Freo.

Or us after the 95 Granny. A lot of players were actually too scared make another one.
They were just shattered.
