I have seen every GF since 1963. There is not a single player who comes close to being the NS every time he plays. He got them going end q2.
He kicked the clutch goals. He wins them the flag this year. His possessions always count.GAS had one excellent finals series 1989. The rest, he was poor or indifferent. Carey was wasteful in 97. Matthews was not always brilliant, but would be a contender by the sheer number he played in. Anyway, Dusty is still relatively young. Let's revisit this after he retires.
Do you think he should have had a hard tag on him all night?

He is without doubt the most brutal opportunist I have seen in GF's. Can you name an effective hard tag we have? I thought Parfitt or Guthrie or Henry, but he showed us after half time what he does to teams at will.

What are the main things richmond has - it’s system, it’s fitness(physical and mental) and dusty. No team seems capable of negating it’s system. Can we get fitter? Apparently -yep we need to be physically and mentally tougher/fitter. Can we work on someone to quell dusty a bit- it’s not possible to stop him completely, but he can be quelled. Given that he accounts for something like 40% of their scoring-seems a Monty to me. Need lingy to train somebody. Need to start next week on the plan for 2021. Lick our wounds, regroup, go again and get em next time.

I personally think selwood should have worn him like a glove last night (I thought he was going to when he went to him before the first bounce).
That goal he kicked before half time was incredible. Had blokes hanging off him and still managed to snap truly.

Don’t think it was Scott’s fault we lost although Dangerfield could’ve been given time in midfield in that 3rd quarter.
why is the Scott thread closed? There was gloating about winning semi finals and finally a prelim, yet now closed After a GF loss. Hmmm

Probably because people go stupid in it.

Let the dust settle and emotions settle and then re-open for a proper discussion.

Selwood is not that player- he should be our best extractor. But not betting younger either.

Maybe AFTER we complete the silly season of trades and drafting.
A week ago, he was being lauded and forgiven.
The team runs out of gas against a dynasty GF team, and guess who is blamed...

Did it in the last Richmond game, Port final, then again! Faark

Did our forward coach tell him not to do it? It’s just stupid and if Tommy can’t see that, then our coaches need to give him a simple rule to follow

We stopped running and spreading. Too old? Probably more like not as mentally prepared for a GF as the experienced Tigers outift. On a personal note it was great being at the ground amongst thousands of Cats supporters making it like every other GF I have been to.

Congratulations to all the boys and the staff at the club who have worked so hard to bring us a season of footy when, back in March, it looked liked we would not have one. We did not get over the final hurdle but signs for next year are looking good. Go Cats in 2021!

Carey a bit over hyped in finals.
I'd put Ablett Snr equal with him when it came to performing in big games. Carey was just fortunate enough to have had the right coach and players to go a step further on two separate occasions.
Was pretty subdued in all grand finals he performed in though.

Matthews would surely stand at the top wouldn't he?
20 disposals & 2.5 goals every grand final he played in.

Carey averaged 19 disposals & 1.3 goals per grand final.

Martin 24 disposals & 3.3 goals is quite remarkable for a player who is essentially a midfielder.

Martin is the modern day Lethal. Best to reassess at the end of his career if 3 NS's aren't enough yet.

Commiserations Cats. You almost had us in that 2nd quarter and if not for some inaccuracies in front of goal you should have been 5 goals up at half time. You’ve had a tremendous season doing it the hard way and with Cameron coming on board next year you will no doubt be one of the main contenders again.
Also congratulations to Gary Ablett Jnr on a magnificent career, might not have ended the way he wanted however he goes out a legend of the game.
See you in 2021 where we can hopefully fill the stands again.

I did not want to read any of this last night but i will say now.....Collingwood as a club have been through more pain than us there fans keep bouncing back...so i say lets recruit well and let's give it another shot next year
Absolutely.

Gear up again.

New season; new challenges.

No time to worry and sook.

We had a great year, we are doing it against all odds.

Keep working hard and it will come. There is no other option worth contemplating.

Hey lads bad luck - just wanted to say it was gut-wrenching to see Yablett go down and again watching him battle the pain throughout the second half.

It shouldn't have gone down like that.

I hope you can all take some solace in the fact that you're one step closer to glory.

Honestly I agree they are average. Dustin Martin won them that game hands down.
Without Martin, Geelong would have lost. The Cats have had the mental fortitude knocked out of them by poor decisions in finals, constructed
under Scott. 2011 was Sanderson, the home & away win rate is talented players and Kardinia Park. Leigh Matthews, when questioned why didn't he include Chris Scott in his top 7 coaches, said it's the players alone that do the job. This is not a conspiracy or vendetta...it's fact.

Yep, I was quite down last night. Woke up feeling better. I think I was mostly unhappy because I'd been trying to convince myself all week that we were as good as Richmond, when clearly we weren't. They were miles ahead, just like Brisbane, Geelong and Hawthorn were earlier on this century. My dominant emotion is joy in the courage of Gary Ablett. Anyone who's had shoulder surgery knows it is borderline insane to go back on a field in a contact sport after damaging it again. Any lingering doubts about Gazza being 'selfish' are dead and buried. A true hero of the game.

It's actually a conclusion derived from a reputable person's opinion. It's not a fact, just a theory, but quite a strong one.

1 question, i noticed Dangerfield had his asthma puffer before the match last night? maybe he was having problem breathing and that is why he was played predominantly in the forward line? We shall see in the next few weeks if anything is said about that..

had it last week too
Not sure if humidity plays a part
Having played ‘social’ soccer in SE Asia it can be brutal
