had it last week too
Not sure if humidity plays a part
Having played ‘social’ soccer in SE Asia it can be brutal

I am asthmatic and live in Singapore, very humid conditions and my asthma is actually alot better in these conditions so i am curious if he was 100% last night from seeing that footage of him taking before the game.

Right, enough.
I've just made another coffee and it's time to get over the negativity. I'm wallowing in that disappointment and frustration of missing the opportunity, comparing players and teams, focusing on the negatives and the mistakes and I've had enough.

Time to look at some positives from last night.

Firstly that's great experience for our younger players, they know the stakes and what it takes to win a Flag and they now have that burn to right the ultimate wrong.

Secondly our young players were in general pretty good, Simpson and Miers definitely didn't wilt under the pressure of a Grand Final. They might not have gotten a heap of chances but when they did they didn't look nervous or apprehensive. They took the game on and seemed to do the right thing more often than not, Miers in particular with some of his passes by foot were fantastic. Good signs for the future when the top handful of players have moved on. I felt Henry was pretty good for the most part.

Thirdly we showed up. Yeah we got over worked and out run in the second half, yeah there were some signs of old habits but nobody can stand there and say we didn't come to play. That's been the biggest issue from the last few years where we simply don't turn up in finals and get blown away, that didn't happen once this finals series.

Fourth-ly? Menegola, Guthrie and Duncan (can't include Parfitt as he had no impact due to a pretty terrible injury) showed they are the core midfield for the next handful of years. None of those guys were embarrassed last night, you could say they may have faded in and out but I felt those 3 were in our top 4 on the night and Duncan our finals MVP which is a clear difference to the DangerwoodLett reliance of the last few years.

There are plenty of good signs for the next few years (aswell as some that suggest the opposite of course) that success isn't out of the question just yet.
We have some quality young players who can slot into that side and IMO make it better, and assuming some hard questions are asked about a few players they should get that chance.
Next handful of years? Menegola, Guthrie and Duncan have at best a couple of years before age will catch up with them. Menegola and Guthrie 29 next year, Duncan will be 30. A couple of years would see them out. We need to fast track some young midfielders.

1 question, i noticed Dangerfield had his asthma puffer before the match last night? maybe he was having problem breathing and that is why he was played predominantly in the forward line? We shall see in the next few weeks if anything is said about that..
True. I mentioned that. I am not sure if that is his routine, or whether a few of the boys were viral. Stewart looked smashed after half time. Harry looked as if he was day dreaming sitting on the bench.

Tom Stewart had worked his arse off. I do wonder if that knee to the head Harry copped might have concussed him a little :(

After 2022, we start again, a true rebuild. I suspect that will be the end of Hawk, Danger, Selwood.

Congrats guys, on a successful year in ridiculous circumstances. Was convinced at half time we were toast, Gaz playing with a broken shoulder is testament to his character as a player.
Cheers, Gaz coming back on and playing is equally testament to the ineptitude of the coaching staff.

I have seen every GF since 1963. There is not a single player who comes close to being the NS every time he plays. He got them going end q2.
He kicked the clutch goals. He wins them the flag this year. His possessions always count.GAS had one excellent finals series 1989. The rest, he was poor or indifferent. Carey was wasteful in 97. Matthews was not always brilliant, but would be a contender by the sheer number he played in. Anyway, Dusty is still relatively young. Let's revisit this after he retires.
I’m not arguing that he’s the best you have ever seen in finals. He’s the best I have seen in finals too. But the best of all time...since 1963 is, well two separate things.

Carey a bit over hyped in finals.
I'd put Ablett Snr equal with him when it came to performing in big games. Carey was just fortunate enough to have had the right coach and players to go a step further on two separate occasions.
Was pretty subdued in all grand finals he performed in though.

Matthews would surely stand at the top wouldn't he?
20 disposals & 2.5 goals every grand final he played in.

Carey averaged 19 disposals & 1.3 goals per grand final.

Martin 24 disposals & 3.3 goals is quite remarkable for a player who is essentially a midfielder.
Gazza best single finals series no doubt.

Yeah noticed that. Thunderstorm asthma perhaps. Not great timing just before the game.

Taylor has been hit squarely on the bellend and then lay there holding the other head. Playa.

I’m 100% confident that Danger was carrying an injury last night. There is so no other explanation as to why he remained up forward in that 3rd term when Richmond were running away with the match.

Jesus on a bike, really? Asthma? He should have been in the midfield all game, or not on the park at all, if not 100%. Yeah, he is good as a forward, when the opposition have shit the bed.

agree with the rebuild but Danger will be around a couple extra years body permitting as a forward

The more I think about this game, the more it feels a bit like 1992 to me.

We don't have the most even side - our bottom six is better than it was, but it's not great - but what we put up last night would have been enough to win the flag in an even year.

Unfortunately, we hit a 'dynasty' team who have put together an absolute hot streak.

I'm not too upset, I honestly did not think we'd be competing for a flag this year.

we have knack of hitting these super teams.. that’s why 08 was such a more brutal loss

Come on all you arrogant braggers, who boasted that Geelong would win!

Stand up + take your medicine!

Show the same guts in defeat, as your bravado, when you bragged about our certain win!

Where are you?

Where is your expression of regret?
Where is your admission of arrogance?
Where is your apology?

How many of you will admit you were wrong?

Come on you big bragging losers!

Have the fortitude to admit you were wrong!

You braggers, have the courtesy to apologise to those you berated!

Any braggers, who have the fortitude to admit they were wrong?

Any?

There were many who criticised those of us, who were fearful of a loss.

Where are you now? Have you crawled back under your rocks?

Why not so lippy now?
Could’ve sworn you were a Richmond fan with all that!!
Good on you! Well said!
Every club has a few of those unfortunately.. (we have plenty)

bad luck on the result, was a cracking GF and much respect to your club! You gave it one hell of a shake! I’m sure you be right up there again next year

2nd prize Jeremy cameron isn’t bad

Scattered thoughts;

What a ride the 2020 season has been. Matches played at KP and not being able to attend, off/on season, interstate games, hubs and an interstate GF.
I don't think anything can compare to the joy of 2007, or the disappointment of 2008. I think I have eradicated the late 1980s/1990s from my memory. Actually what I remember most is 1989. As disappointing as last night's loss was, there's no point in getting savage about it.

I really thought we were a chance before the game last night and certainly during the first quarter. There seemed to be some sort of mental disintegration after half time. That is not to say the Tigers weren't very good. This team does seem to lack that extra grit to stay strong and composed. Would some psychological help remedy this?

It was better to make a GF than not. Really as supporters we were lucky to have the team help carry us through the COVID with so many wins. Well done.

Fairy tales don't just happen in AFL, they have to be fought for tooth and nail. If GAJ wanted more premierships he should have stayed a one club player. I'm saddened that his best years were spent playing games no one really wanted to watch. I wish him all the best with post footy life.

I would have loved to see Selwood become a premiership captain but having played in three premierships he can hardly be said to be lacking achievements.

What about next year? What will the season look like, especially for supporters? As much as I enjoy footy, it is in the end just a sport. I'll ride rollercoaster again next season. I'll shout out with joy, yell in frustration and hopefully actually attend some games.

the bold part!
We may not know it but riding their coat tales has helped us so much during this time

That’s from the weather report I heard for Brisbane yesterday. It’s real and does impact some people. Not sure if it was the case with Dangerfield. Pure speculation. The puffer may have been precautionary.

Martin is the modern day Lethal. Best to reassess at the end of his career if 3 NS's aren't enough yet.
If you rate Norm Smith's that is. I certainly don't.
