Can't argue with results.
Strange how current Tigers team doesn't inspire that 'great' tag.
Maybe its just the lack of aesthetics in how they win. That perceived lack of acknowledgement may be something that irks the team enough to motivate them for more.
Don't worry, history doesn't consider aesthetics. Winners are grinners and when ultimately your team comes back to the pack you can dine out on this era.

Just imagine if they won another one in the next couple of years. 4 in 5 or 4 in 6 would be some kind of achievement.

Like most of you all, I am a passionate Cat fan. Born and bred in Geelong and living in lockdown Melbourne. Have gone through the stages of football grieving, from anger, depression and now acceptance. In the cool light of Sunday I’m am disappointed and shattered we lost, but not like 2008.

I am grateful we had a team to barrack for at all in the sh1tstorm called 2020. I am proud of the team and club for handling relocation so well and making us proud and playing great footy along the way.

Unfortunately we were the 2nd best team in the AFL - by a small margin. We lost to a dynasty team that has won 3 of the last 4 premierships. I can accept defeat because WE DIDN’T LOSE BECAUSE :

- we choked
- we failed to show up
- we played crap
- lack of effort
- one or two obvious errors
- stupid coaching moves

None of that. We didn’t lose it - they had to play extraordinarily well to win it, and they did. Credit to them. I urge you to watch Chris Scott’s post game presser. It helps with the grieving.

Let’s hope we improve and give it another shake next year.

Go Cats!!!

(Is it trade period yet?)
- we choked, yeah, they did, onwards from the first 2 richmond goals of the 3rd qtr
- we failed to show up, yep in the second half the team were worse than collingwood in the EF.
- we played crap, well it's subjective for the first half, but irrefutable in the second half.
- lack of effort, many almost completely gave up in the 4th qtr
- one or two obvious errors, mostly smack in the head, coaching errors
- stupid coaching moves, ablett couldn't lift an arm that he previously had difficulty lifting, dangerfield can play forward against teams that don't show up, having 2 x multiple elected all australian squad players (for their main roles) do ruck work is counterintuitive, why is Tuohy not down back?, Harry should have been politely requested to retire 1-2 years ago, Kolojashnij should have been trade bait 2 years ago, Bews???

Yep, definitely doesn't feel like 08.
I just feel for Gaz, he deserved to go out a lot better than that.

I will do so now. Most of your fans have been pretty humble and good about the loss, but i couldnt resist responding to that blokes laughable comment. Congrats on a good season and probably see you in september next year

That particular poster doesn't represent the general response of this Board....and he wont be around for some time now. I'm sure you have similar "characters" on your Board.

Richmond have won Grand Finals by playing an accountable, tough team orientated brand and are deservedly top of the tree right now

Well done, but we will be gunning for you next year. Enjoy your victory.

I go back further to Selwoods free kick to start the second half.
Plays on and looks to kick long into our forwardline, instead handballs poorly to Guthrie, whose standing still and facing the wrong way and not expecting the ball, that results in a turn over and a goal to the tigers.
Sliding doors moment, but if he goes long and we score a goal as a result, we go back to 20+ points in front and have wrestled the momentum back.
Instead we got what we got.
Kolo turnover, Blicavs waiting on a loose ball and multiple players mis-hitting simple handballs just added to it and cemented it.
That is so true. I couldn't believe what I was seeing, players make mistakes but Sel, 300 games, 3 premierships, 200 games as captain. Gotta blame the coronavirus.

I have seen every GF since 1963. There is not a single player who comes close to being the NS every time he plays. He got them going end q2.
He kicked the clutch goals. He wins them the flag this year. His possessions always count.GAS had one excellent finals series 1989. The rest, he was poor or indifferent. Carey was wasteful in 97. Matthews was not always brilliant, but would be a contender by the sheer number he played in. Anyway, Dusty is still relatively young. Let's revisit this after he retires.
He's 29, only a year younger than Danger.

Don’t think it was Scott’s fault we lost although Dangerfield could’ve been given time in midfield in that 3rd quarter.
why is the Scott thread closed? There was gloating about winning semi finals and finally a prelim, yet now closed After a GF loss. Hmmm
Closed before the game even began. Whats the point of having a geelong forum if you cant even discuss certain key geelong related topics like the coaching?

Most of the players looked spent for the majority of the last half so it's pretty hard to lay blame on the coach for playing Danger at FF.

The job Nankervis done in the centre can't be underestimated either. He really limited Stanley's spring and allowed their mids to get first hands on the ball. I'm really not sure having Danger in the middle would have helped that much anyway, Richmond were just far too good and were full of run.

I know some of you are hurting but I grew up in the late 70's and 80's and lived my footballing life thinking I'd never see us win a premiership after being to so many losing Grand Finals. After we broke the drought I was content. This one doesn't hurt at all having seen 3 more flags than I expected to see.

Spare a thought for Melbourne and St.Kilda supporters and that might give this result a little more perspective and ease your minds a little.

Thanks to all those who have contributed throughout the year. I haven't agreed with some of you at times but I still respect your contributions.

Chins up and hope you're all back next year to do it again.

What gloating? You seem intent on trolling here as much as you can. I know its disappointing losing a GF but surely you can get it off your chest another way. I suggest drinking heavily.

Glad to see sanity prevail

Geelong midfielder Patrick Dangerfield has avoided any penalty after his collision with Richmond's Nick Vlastuin that left the Tiger with concussion

Incident assessed:

The incident between Geelong Cats' Patrick Dangerfield and Richmond's Nick Vlastuin from the first quarter of Saturday's game between Richmond and the Geelong Cats was assessed. The ball is loose. Vlastuin and Dangerfield approach the ball from opposing directions. Dangerfield punches the ball and in the process makes high contact to Vlastuin. It was the view of the MRO that Dangerfield's actions were not unreasonable in the circumstances. No further action was taken.

No Parfitt didn't help us .

Tigers a good at not grabing the ball they rather tap it to a player in a better spot..

They get a hand in here and there.

Well it works. Teams have to find a way to counter it ... and for 4 quarters.

That’s really not correct on Gaz Snr. 91 was a write-off after the comeback.

92 he kicked 16 goals in the 4 games including 3 in the GF. He wasn’t poor or indifferent. Not ‘great’, sure, but let’s say fairly good, and really good in the QF kicking 5.

94 he kicked 5 in the first quarter against the Dogs in the Billy king of Geelong game. Also kicked 6 in that huge win against Carlton at Waverley. He was great that day, took some huge wrestling grabs. Prelim was not a great day but bobbed up with the winner. GF he was shut out.

95 he came in after injury. Kicked 4 in the PF, and completely shut out in the granny.

So he had some poor games, GFs sadly, but to say all of his finals series post 89 were poor or indifferent is not quite right.

never seen a player with high marking, lengthy kicks on both sides of body, ability to play back, forward and middle, ability to break open packs, create fear in opponents, composed under pressure, kick goals from anywhere, kick over 1000 goals after only 3 full seasons at full forward. gary ablett senior was the only footballer in the past 60 years to have this capacity
he was the GOAT undoubtedly in my mind

Come on all you arrogant braggers, who boasted that Geelong would win!

Stand up + take your medicine!

Show the same guts in defeat, as your bravado, when you bragged about our certain win!

Where are you?

Where is your expression of regret?
Where is your admission of arrogance?
Where is your apology?

How many of you will admit you were wrong?

Come on you big bragging losers!

Have the fortitude to admit you were wrong!

You braggers, have the courtesy to apologise to those you berated!

Any braggers, who have the fortitude to admit they were wrong?

Any?

There were many who criticised those of us, who were fearful of a loss.

Where are you now? Have you crawled back under your rocks?

Why not so lippy now?
I'm Sorry

I think to give the mods a chance to actually watch the game without worrying about stuff.
Which is fair enough I suppose.

Yup. Say what you like about the brand or the Quality of their list, their system works.
Alright, considering I was invited. Richmond take possession of the ball and as soon as an opposition player attempts to tackle, they drop the ball.
Incorrect disposal doesn't apply, ch7 commentators don't mention it, umpires dismiss it. It's a frequent occurrence. In the 3rd quarter, you will run out of fingers, counting the amount of times.

Well said mate. Think its the disappointment that's hard to grapple with after having an air of expectation at half time.
Around the same vintage as you, so have experienced all the previous disappointments which made those 3 flags sooo sweet.
Only one way forward....back to the drawing board, back to the trade table..... and back to supporting the club that always aims for the pointy end.
