Scott said he'd take a few extras to Adelaide so the team is not set in concrete.

Kneviit very stiff and a couple of others a bit lucky. Bews hangs in because we haven't found a better small defender - oh, bar Mullin in time!

Is it 4 wins by under a goal? 2 of those at AO?
4 wins by 7 points or less, then another 2 by around 2 goals. I'm not discounting close wins, good teams win the close ones and everyone will rightly point to Collingwood last year. But obviously at least 6 other teams have been within a kick or two in the last few minutes. So we can give this a mighty shake if we're on.

I am a big fan of Knevitt, he will be a big improver, it wasn’t long ago people on here had Cooper Stephens ahead of him as a prospect. Let’s see where he is in 12 months.

Contested marking is a big asset for a mid.
I value your opinions and clearly, you rate Mitch. As I see it as we speak he'll be a valuable player for us. Marking for a mid is an add-on IMHO. If you look at the sides most likely to take the silverware it's leg speed, running strength, good skills under pressure, making good decisions under pressure, and work ethic are the keys to their mids. Influencing games too.

A good player is Mitch and he'll get better. Of the players presently on our list, still think Dempsey has more upside. Time will tell.

I like Dempsey too, thought he was lively against Richmond and paid the price for some, admittedly, woeful goal kicking. Also like how good/consistent he has been at lower level.

Hopefully a spot opens up for him next year.

Think he's found his spot in the midfield or wing. Has a good engine and is quite quick. I have a leaning toward players with leg speed. My worry is he's still quite slight. Needs to bulk up.

If Teddy Whitten - the late E J Whitten - was still calling the Geelong games on the the local radio

Well Teddy in his preview of the game would be saying that Chris Scott is playing Ducks and Drakes ( whatever that fecken means ) with the selection of this Geel side

Because looking at the emergencies there could be 4 late outs - not 1

My only slight dissappointment with the team - is at this stage Tuohy is out - i thought he played quite well against the Bulldogs - loved his couple of Gary Malarkey type torps - and with the week off for the bye - youd reckon he would be raring to go against Port Adelaide

Oooo so close!
Yep. I had 2E as being managed in an early post but didn’t have the conviction for the meat tray (I had been calling for 2E to be managed for a few weeks so gave up!).

I like the changes…. If the team can gel then not without a chance…Port due for a loss.

Having said that I still expect that this is about tuning up for home against Melbourne in a must win game. Will have the three big guns with a week under their belt and have 2E, Bowes, Stanley all to choose from to top up the team

Take out legspeed and I’d pretty much agree. Legspeed is the most overrated of traits in elite midfielders. The elite midfielders tend to have average speed (are often actually slow) but have above average running endurance and where they excel is finding the ball through the combination of other traits you mention. Elite mids that have speed are exceptionally rare. Judd, Ablett and Dangerfield are a few of the notable exceptions of the past 20 years. But all of them excelled in every other dimension as well with Ablett and Danger also being great overhead.

Speedy mids have a place as role players but tend to be icing, not cake.

Agree. Just shows the value of being around along time (which maybe fair enough in terms of credits in the bank). He is particularly stiff as I don’t think he will be sub (will be Bowes).

Hoping Mitch will be back for VFL game on Friday night (will have 2 Mitches then I think?)

Well said. I love them both long term (of course no guarantee) but the boys are going to have to be patient as the club (rightly) rolls the dice for 2023 to time its run to go back to back. While that is still a possibility neither Mitch nor Ollie D will be in best 23. Indeed they may still be fighting hard in 2024 if older players keep defying Father Time….

But at some stage I think both (along side Toby, Jyhe, Neale and maybe a couple of others - whyte, ted?) will be good long term players for a successful Cats team

Including emergencies, there's 20 of the 22 premiership players still at the club who have been named, 18 in the selected 22. Only current players missing are C.Guthrie (injured) and Parfitt (out of form).
Someone is going to post “no excuses” 😀

Tuohy's last 3 weeks have seen incremental improvement though, especially compared to start of year. I don't think he was coping in a backline that wasn't secure and had absentees. I'd be tempted to roll the dice on him, but would rest him if he needs it at any point.

Dangerfield and Holmes will be in midfield and Duncan or Tuohy more on the wing, is my suspicion.

FB: Bews De Koning Henry
HB: Stewart Kolo Tuohy
C: Duncan Blicavs Smith
HF: Miers Cameron Close
FF: Stengle Hawkins Rohan
FOL: Stanley Dangerfield Holmes
IC: Bruhn Atkins O.Henry Zuthrie O'Connor(sub)

If Stanley isn't ready, Ceglar stays. One of Zuthrie and O'Connor. One of Bruhn and Knevitt. Bowes in if Duncan doesn't get up, or for anyone on the bench except Atkins.
Looks like I got Tuhoy rite

Knevitt is unlucky but its understandable with holmes back.
Im glad to see bruhn retained.

Thats a very odd emg line-are we going to make tuohy the sub or manage him altogether and leave him at home? Surely they wont make stanley the sub at his height-maybe he is going to play a half in the vfl and then swap with ceglar next week.

Bews is lucky..i think he is very much on the edge when sav is back.
The only saving grace for Bews there not many can play that lock down small defender.. in actually fact there is only him and O'Connor can play that small-medium defender lock down..

I think bowes or guthrie could so sav and bowed will put pressure on bews but i agree the fact that we dont have specialist small backs helps his case

IMO Ablett wasn't actually physically fast, Bews would leave him for dead. Ablett made his space with such clean hands and footy IQ that he was usually moving at top speed in possession while others were still ball watching. If Holmes body can hang together then he's got the toolbox to be one- Its easy to forget he's only played 37 games and still could lift a few levels.

Wouldn't mind giving Holmes a role on Butters this week, probably the only mid we have with the wheels to cover him.

Thats where Cooper White could make a name in years to come... even if we rookie a young small defender in this years draft with our last pick in the 70s ( as we will have more draft picks coming in )
Or how is Oscar Murdoch playing? Isn't he a med defender?
